it depends what kind of player you have. Most likely your player is Region 2 and PAL only. US discs are always NTSC and more often than not Region 1 encoded. You can get a player that will play everything for a decent price I'm sure.

But before you do that, check at http://www.videohelp.com/dvdhacks to see if there is a region hack for your dvd player. There may be a combination of keys or another fairly simple procedure to allow you to change it to all-region. Some players will even handle the PAL<->NTSC conversion.

you will also want to know if your TV can cope with the 60hz signal that NTSC uses (instead of just the 50hz that PAL uses) - usually, unless your TV is really old you should be ok.
theres also a very good chance you would have found it hard not to buy a multiregion player in these parts...
