flixtime 07-01-06 10:19 AM

I'm still finalizing my list. It is way too big right now and that is not even considering 5 of the titles you just mentioned. A bunch of the ones you mentioned are certainly going to be in my order too.

BuddhaWake 07-01-06 11:00 AM

in all reality there were like at least 10 more in there including:
Astronautas
Habana Blues
Fiebre del Loco (I might just get the brazilian version for this)
Martin (hache)
Historias Minimas
Aunque estes lejo
Soldados de Salamina
Solo Mia
Son de Mar
La Fiesta del Chivo (Does anyone know anything about this film?)
La Noche del Hermano
Tierra

So I think I did ok by cutting so much.

flixtime 07-01-06 01:06 PM

BuddhaWake, certainly some more interesting things in your cut list. "La Fiesta del Chivo", I see it is a pre-order and since you are asking about it too you probably don't have much info. either. Looks to be a Spain/UK co-production...IMDb says "English" for the language. DVDGO is showing "Spanish" for the language and no info. about subs. Maybe the tech specs will get more precise closer to the pre-order date. If the language/subs thing turns out okay then I'd be interested in it.

edited to add: forgot to ask, is the one you mentioned "Tierra" (Directed by Julio Medem, right?) still on their site? The R1 is out of print.

BuddhaWake 07-01-06 06:21 PM

Yeah, Tierra by Julio Medem is at a good price. I also forgot to add to my list Salvador Allende. Guess I'll have to add it to my order. How could I have forgotten.

Also, if you are into politics check out Memorias de Saqueo. Great film about the privatization of Argentina and the colapse of their market.

Also, El Milagro de Candeal is another interesting documentary with some great music.

For those that do not need English subtitles and enjoyed the Motorcycle diaries, I recommend De Viaje con el Che.

flixtime 07-19-06 02:47 PM

In case it might be of use to anyone, or for the curious, following is my list to be purchased from DVDGO (a couple are pre-orders so I'll have to keep an eye that the specs don't change for the worse):

toddly6666 07-19-06 03:30 PM

is the spanish dvd of TIERRA anamorphic?

flixtime 07-19-06 04:09 PM

toddly6666, I'm not entirely sure if it is anamorphic or not. There is no indication at the DVDGO site (even if you click the back cover art). I read a DVD review at zonadvd.com and it says anamorphic but the back cover art looks a little different than the back cover art at DVDGO. On the other hand, the release dates on both sites seem to match up. All this is likely of little help to you, but that's all I know (until I actually receive my order some time in August).

BuddhaWake 07-19-06 09:24 PM

I think I did ok with this order. Here is the final one. hopefully it will ship soon.

I need some help with the DVDGo site. My prices do not seem to reflect the sale prices mentioned in the preceding posts; for example, El Aura shows up as 13,46 Eur. (Is there a sale code?) What am I doing incorrectly?

Thank you!

pro-bassoonist 07-19-06 11:55 PM

Liz, the total you see at this point includes VAT. Once you enter your US/Hawaii address you should see a reduction.

Ciao,

Thank you as always, Pro-B! :)

Is a R1 dvd of army of shadows expected? I know it's been playing theatrically in the US.

nitin77 07-21-06 04:18 AM

according to roger ebert's online review, yes. No release date listed, nor who will produce the dvd.

It will be coming from Criterion--likely early 2007.

Thanks for that bit of advise PRO-B...im going to order it next time now...are you sure this is the one that's selling at dvdgo.com?

:) Well, I do not work for these folks so I am not sure what they have in stock but I am certain that you would get the 16/9 disc (the odler version has been OOP for some time now). On a side note they have all of the specs incorrect. Fox-Spain is not the distributor as DVDGO indicates it is Sogepaq Video so I am not sure what they mean:

http://www.sogecine-sogepaq.com/fich...elicula=TIERRA

...though looking at the distrib's info (or lack there of) I can see why there is confusion. Order with confidence though!

Also since it seems like someone deleted my thread about Malas Temporadas I wanted to suggest it to those who consider future orders. It features Leonor Watling :flowers: plus she also appears with her band Marlango. Outstanding film (I shall have a review up soon).

Here's the official film site: http://www.golem.es/malastemporadas/

...and here's the band's site: http://www.marlango.net/

Listen to the main theme/song from the film here:

Ok Ciao,

BUMP for 2007.

Considering I haven't yet watched everything I picked up from last year's sale, I should be the last one to bring this up....but what the heck. It's getting to be that time again...time for the DVDGO Summer Sale. I checked with them and it is again slated to start on July 1st. I neglected to ask the end date but it would be safe to assume it will go until the end of August as was the case with previous sales. I'm not quite certain that I'll be jumping in this year, mainly because I have already picked up a few odd titles here and there between the last sale and now, but that could change.

For those newer to this, you will find a number of great suggestions already listed in this thread (though by now many may be available in other regions...so do your research).

Off the top of my head, the R2 Spain discs I've picked up since the last sale include:

La Noche de los Girasoles
Zulo
Alatriste
El Dorado (1988)
Ay, Carmela!

One I'm interested in but haven't yet purchased is:
Mi Mejor Enemigo

There are a couple more I am interested in but I don't have the names on-hand right now.

For those in the U.S. who might only be interested in a title or two, you might consider - as an alternative to DVDGO - Xploitedcinema since they do already stock some of the titles in this discussion.

With all that out of the way, I kindly request BuddhaWake, Pro-B, toddly6666, and the rest of DVDTalk to offer some suggestions if anything comes to mind. I know I'm jumping the gun a bit, but I don't see any harm in preparing a little early, or at least calling it to everyone's attention as something to consider in the coming couple of months.

BuddhaWake 06-18-07 10:31 AM

I've been picking up some back catalogue argentinian films. I'm also looking forward to the August sale ad dvdgo. I did pick up cronicas de una fuga from argentina but haven't given it a spin yet. I will go through my wishlist and see what comes up. I noticed that xploited had 2 south american films but the dvds are not from spain, I think they are dutch. anyone knows anything about these. I'll edit my post once i get a list going. last time I picked up a few things I really enjoyed bu they didn't have english subs so I'll skip those.

AmonTwin 07-08-07 12:05 AM

Sorry to join this discussion so late in the game, but just to be sure, is this DVDGo sale still going on? I have actually never purchased anything from them, do I need a discount code or the sales price is already reflected on the website?

I have just spent the last two weeks planning and getting married so am really too lazy to search if the answer has been mentioned already. I apologize in advance. Thank you. There look to be some decent deals to be had. Am considering getting Malas Temporadas, Ay, Carmela!, The Whore and the Whale and The Bilingual Lover. These are all much cheaper at DVDGo than at Xploited. I have really lagged getting these as funds have been a little tight with the wedding and all...

Any more suggestions out there? Old or new films...

BuddhaWake 07-08-07 09:38 AM

yeah, the sale just started about a week ago and goes on until the last day of august. many dvds are 20-25% off.
