OK I have a question.. I am wanting to pick this up (I know, I'm late to the party) and was looking at hivizone's site. They still list it, and I assume it is in stock. Which shipping is considered EMS? They have AIRMAIL and SPEEDPOST. There's about an $8 difference.. what would be the difference in delivery time do you think. I am in Alabama.

If someone knows of a site with it cheaper, and in stock, I am all ears..

thanks!

OK, so I have never seen the trilogy before but I might buy it now that I've read some of the reviews. For those who have the box set (or are in the know), does the IA1 disc have the alternate ending among the extras? Also, I've noticed that the previous SEs have both the theatrical and director's cuts. Are both included in the box set? I am assuming they are not. Thanks for help.

Someone earlier noted issues with scratches on the plastic box/casing for the set, and I can confirm that both copies of the set I ordered had scuffing on the black plastic casing. The first was so bad I returned it (at my expense). However, the second was not quite as bad so that'll be a keeper. Seems like by its nature, the casing is prone to showing scuff marks. Though the first set's casing looked like it had been used as a soccer ball on the factory floor. . . Would be nice though if those scuffs could be cleaned up somehow without making it worse. . .

In the last week, I have watched the three single movies, and am halfway through the chronological version now. I have to say, for a blind buy, it is one of the best ones that I have ever made.

Are there any sites that give detailed breakdowns of all of these movies? I am pretty sure that I figured everything out, but after I watch a movie, I like to check out spoilers to see if I missed anything. For this trilogy, it is a must, since it was hard to follow at times with the jumping time frames.

RocShemp 08-05-05 11:08 AM

So are the 8-disc or 6-disc disc boxset versions still available anywhere? If not, are these individual 2-disc releases worthy substitutes?

The box sets have slightly improved transfers, but those individual 2-disc sets from Media Asia (the ones you linked to) are still pretty good. The supplements are mostly the same (only the first movie was given additional supplements in the box).

RocShemp 08-05-05 08:38 PM

So by "slightly improved" you mean what? Less edge enhancement? Better color timing? Less compression artefacts? What?

Don't get me wrong, if you say these are still pretty good (and the price for each isn't all that bad either) I'll believe you. You've just piqued my curiosity.

Thanks for the link, Josh Z. I completely forgot that you had reviewed this set.

saw the 8 disc set used the other day..... very tempted to get it,
even though its about $100 used, and not much subtitled extras......

asianxcore 01-23-06 03:04 AM

sort of off-topic,

but I noticed that both Infernal Affairs 2/3 were given 2-disc boxset treatments with postcards, flipbooks, etc. did they ever do one for the first movie (outside of the big boxset).

thanks!

darmok 01-24-06 04:03 PM

yes they did. it's very limited, though, to 3000 i think (i think people were caught off guard by how limited that first set was). it has a mini comic book, postcards, COA signed by 4 actors (reproduced signatures), all inside a silver cardboard slipcase. the software is otherwise the same as the regular 2-disc set.

wow just saw IA1, great movie.

Interested in buying 2,3, and the nicer version of 1, wish i could get a box set, but 100 bucks is just to much for my preference.

anyways, the question at hand, anyone have any info on these ebay listings? for example:

thanks

Hi!

I think this one is legit. I had it at one point. It's by Zoke, a chinese company. However, the dialogue is dubbed in mandarin and there is no cantonese audio... That's the reason I sold it and got the individual Mega Star version, which are pretty good.

well considering i can't speak either it isn't a big issue for me :-D Honestly though I care about video/sound/price. and though the main trilogy has apparently the best, it only seems by slightly. so id ratehr get the mega star or this for a lot cheaper, though i dont have a lot of comments on it.

was jus curious what people in my position would do (is ebay the best place to even by foriegn dvd's, im a newb with foriegns)

Browsing through the seller's history, he sells a lot of CDs and DVDs with low Buy It Now prices and high shipping prices. This is an incredibly scummy thing that some people do to get artificially lower eBay listing fees, since you have to pay a percentage of the selling price before shipping. That doesn't inherently mean he's crooked or selling bootlegs, but it should raise a flag.

eBay is usually a bad place to buy Asian DVDs, since it's so overrun with bootleggers. You're better off going with a forum-recommended Web store (like DDDHouse or CDWow) unless you know exactly what you're looking for.

I agree with GHackmann on purchasing international DVDs from Ebay. It is better off getting it at forum-recommended Web store.

It depends....do you want the invidual movies separately or do you want the monstronsity that is the 5 hour version with all 3 films edited together? The invidual movies will run around 12 bucks a piece and the 5 hour version will run around 26 bucks if you purchase them from a Hong Kong retailer. I just picked up the 5 hour version during my trip to Hong Kong 2 weeks ago.

Anyways, some reliable Hong Kong retailers that you can pick these up include:

www.dddhouse.com

www.hmv.com.hk

or if you prefer, you can purchase it in the United States from:

www.yessia.com

Rypro 525 09-18-06 05:53 PM

i didn't know they sold the 5 hour version by itself??

DJariya 09-18-06 07:41 PM

Yeah the 5 hour version is now sold by itself with no special features. It's 2 discs 2 1/2 hours per disc. It is edited chronologically by year. Thus, the events of Infernal Affairs II begin the movie. I believe the Godfather movies did something like this as well.

Yeah, the Godfather Saga was made for TV and re-edited Parts 1 and 2 into one long chronological movie. Since Parts 1 and 2 were both taken from the same book, it's sometimes called "the complete novel" or "complete epic" as well. However, the re-edit also added back in footage that didn't appear in either separate film. Much later, after Part III was made, that film was added to an ultimate re-edit, confusingly called "The Godfather Trilogy." However, since Part III is all chronilogically at the end of the saga, and nothing was added to this part of the saga, the Trilogy re-edit is little more than the Saga with Part III tagged on at the end.

The Godfather Saga was released on VHS back in the day, but hasn't made it to DVD yet.

As far as Infernal Affairs goes, the miniseries re-edit doesn't add any footage that wasn't in the previous DVDs (movies 2 and 3 were already extended director's cuts on DVD).

Rypro 525 09-20-06 12:09 AM

anyone have a direct link to the chronological cut of infernal affairs?
