Got my R2 Casshern -- Initial Thoughts.
My 3-disc R2 Casshern arrived today. Packaging is simple, 3 slim digipacks in a slipcase.
I've only watched the film in dts-ES but it looked and sounded awesome. A very nice 2.35:1 anamorphic transfer and really bright colors help bring this story to life. The picture was a little bit soft to my eyes but still looked great. Colors are awesome. I can't wait to get into the rest of this set. Anyone else get theirs? :) |
Mine shipped on 10/22. Can't wait to get it. :D
|
the other 2 discs are unsubbed extras, right?
|
Amazon.co.jp shipped mine on October 23rd.
Already I can't wait any longer till it arrives! |
Any word if there will be an LE (other than the current one) or a nice boxed set of this coming out in the near future?

When did they change it to a 3 dvd edition? as it was a single dvd last time I saw it!!!!!!!!! crikey! from 1 to 3!

I got the set the other day. I've only been able to watch about an hour of it, but I'll hopefully be able to put some more time into it tonight or tomorrow.
Like RicP said, the packaging is simple, but very nice. The set comes in a nice and sturdy silver/metallic box (sorry about it being out of focus..) http://img96.exs.cx/img96/5359/P1010076small.jpg The three separate digipacks http://img96.exs.cx/img96/6230/P1010077small.jpg Inside the digipacks and back of the box http://img96.exs.cx/img96/871/P1010078small.jpg the picture also looked a tad soft to my eyes as well, but nothing I'd really complain about. http://img96.exs.cx/img96/7334/P1010081small.jpg |
Looks pretty nice. For some reason I never preordered this one, even though I really want to see it. I might have to get this soon.
Any word on a Korean release? |
How's the movie? The trailer is freaking awesome. Very tempted to get it man.

I watched the movie and I'm a little confused. Would appreciate an explanation. Thanks!

Damn you people! I guess I will pick it up when I receive my $5 coupon from YesAsia.

Contrary to some beliefs on this forum, not every Asian movie gets a Korean DVD release. CASSHERN was never released in Korean theaters, so it is very unlikely that it will be released on DVD there. Sorry! Waste a shitload on a Japanese over priced dvd or get a cheaper version a few months or so down the line, nothing to think about really, unless you have loads of cash or realllllyyyy want to see the film. I really want to see it, but come on! its far to high priced and I buy anything, but japanese dvds are just taking the piss with there silly prices. :) |
does the film have english subs?

Originally posted by Romerojpg Hey hundreds of films dont get a cinema release in Korea, and they still some out on dvd, so yes people expect a Korean release, and it pretty much 100% certain wil happen as it happens with practically all sellable films, and this IS a film that will sell. Is there any hope for a HK release? I'm intrigued by the film but I'm not paying over $20 to see it blind.

dreamworks have the USA rights, so you will see an american disc in the distant future but will it look as good as the japanese (in every respect)?!?!?!

I saw it at Bic Camera for 4441Y with the typical 10% back in poiints, so about 4000Y. I know Kiriya is a good music video director, but without Hikaru Utada actually in the movie, I think I'll rent it before I decide to buy.

That code is still working, as long as you're a first time customer.

It is wise to place an order for more than one item. I would suggest the Hero set, very nice slipcase and top notch a/v! :)
|
Any other really good R2J dvd's to order??? I'm kinda wanting to order Casshern, but like DrGerbil said it's wise to order more than one item.
|
Here goes some more of your hard earned cash:
Eyes Wide Shut (the R2 is unrated) Shinji Iwai films (some don't have eng subs) There are a few others you could get, though, i'm taking into account future releases in R1 that could render them obsolete (such as Leon and Lynch's Wild At Heart). |
I wish I could order it from amazon, but customs will only get it and charge me a fortune, so no way! will just have to wait and see what other regions dvds are like and hope they are as good as the J dvd :( but it looks sooo nice....

Well the way current things are going, you could see a decent, cheaper Korean release too. I don't have any info, that just tends to be the pattern. But wouldn't customs charge the same no matter which other country it came from? So you're waiting for a UK release?

What an absolutely terrible film. Overly art directed, incredibly confused storyline, ultra-preachy "message", with CGs that look straight from a X-Box game. Incredibly inconsistent visuals, sometimes looking like a sci-fi, sometimes looking like it's lifted from Lord of the Rings! Not to talk about the terrible acting and zero character development. And god, the "action" scenes are go overblown and choppy that it's almost unwatchable.
The film is desparately trying to be "Cool", but overdid it by about 1000%. If I saw this at the cinemas, I would have long walked out. |

Customs are a bunch of inconsistent bugger, they may charge between 9 and 15 UKpounds for Casherna, which isnt nice anyway you look at it :(
I had been caught by customs about 5 times in 5 years, and a few weeks ago I started getting seriously picked on and they have had 15 of my parcels! coming to a few hundred pounds :( So in the future I am never going to take a chance, places like YESASIA get round customs, they may not be the cheapest for me, but to get around customs is a massive factor for people who may get stung by them evil pigdogs! :) |
