Oh, I get it now. You meant that the second disc had a TRAILER for the extended cut of Dumplings.

Just got around to watching Miike's Box, which was very impressive. Miike is one of my favorite directors, and this might be the best thing he's done since Audition.

Box starts in the "creepy long-haired Asian girl" school of fright, but Miike quickly pushes past the boundaries of the genre, morphing the film into a stately, phantasmagorical fairy tale with a true formal elegance.

At times it was as if I were watching the Asian equivalent of Bergman or Tarkovsky; the surreal moments reminded me of Persona or Hour of the Wolf, and the ending has the same baffling-yet-poetic quality as the last scene of Stalker. The conclusion to Box comes so out of left field that you'll never see it coming, but it doesn't come off as a contrived attempt at a surprise ending. It fits in deftly with the theme of the entire piece and illuminates it in an odd, understated way.

It's pretty exciting to imagine Miike making a feature film of this caliber.

Plus, did I mention the HK DVD is R0?

I almost picked this up today as a blind buy but got abnormal beauty instead...Im a big fan of Miike and the only movie I have watched by Park is Oldboy, which is one of my favs of the past 5 years. Im thinking after reading the positive reviews so far here that I should go back and get this.

I don't get why people do not like cut i thought it was great. Maybe its because they didnt understand the ending

I have the HK disc, loved this film. I thought Cut was the weakest section, but only relative to the other two. Still a terrific short.

I just saw the extended edition of dumplings and i must say it is a very weak film. I enjoyed the shorter version of dumplings a lot more than the extended cut. The extended cut is very slow and drags so much that it really killed the film. But it was interesting to see what fruit chan's full story

Looks like there's no consensus on Three...Extremes, except that it's worth seeing!

I liked Cut a lot, but I thought it had one twist too many at the end. If Chan-Wook had ended it with
Spoiler:
the little boy saying "I'll get you both"
it would've been a devastating piece of movie-making with a real message. But he keeps going, and it seems like he's just heaping shock on top of shock for the hell of it. Even still, it's a top-drawer piece of work, quite an emotional rollercoaster, and a good way to introduce people to Chan-Wook Park.

I actually prefer the longer version of Dumplings - yes, it was slower, but I found some of the added character development interesting. Even so, this the weakest of the three segments, and wouldn't tell anybody to see the longer Dumplings unless they really liked the shortened version.

I still think Miike is hands-down the winner of the lot, as I've watched Box a couple of times - there's something haunting about it, and I don't mean in a supernatural way... But any way you slice it Three... Extremes is definitely worth a blind buy. Plus the HK disc is a really nice package, couldn't believe the price.

Does anybody know how the HK disc stacks up against the Korean version on picture quality?

thats a good Q : thing is, i dont think anyone will have bought the korean, and i cant seeing there being a comparison... its likely that the majority who wanted it bought it pretty quickly on the decent HK disc and most will probably not have spotted the korean issue coming out... the chances are the discs are exactly the same...

I'm not sure, but I think the two discs have the films in a different order?

HK = Box, Dumplings, Cut
Korean = Cut, Box, Dumplings

Can anyone verify?
