Luis Bunuel - R2 - 3-film box-set

Looks like it comes out on September 6th - here's a pre-order page:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/...271099-0227001

It has three Bunuel films:
- Diary of a Chambermaid
- Belle de Jour
- The Milky Way

Criterion has already released "Diary" on a pretty good dvd. Disney has a kind of shoddy dvd of "Belle", and I think Criterion is putting out a dvd of "Milky Way" later this year. But this bare-bones box-set isn't too bad of a deal at around $30 (the price of one Criterion).

Here's a review:

Well, very interesting... are these available separately? I think I'll wait for the Criterion "The Milky Way" and I'm entirely satisfied with Criterion's "Diary", but this crappy Buena Vista release of "Belle de Jour" just begs for an upgrading. The screenshots look good, but some of the other comments about artifacts and blurry motion make me wonder if the improvement would be all that great, on balance. Anybody seen this disc?

How definite is that news/rumor that Criterion's doing Milky Way? This is the first I've heard of it.....

No official confirmation that I'm aware of... this thread seems to contain the latest rumors/speculation: http://www.dvdtalk.com/forum/showthr...ighlight=milky

Thanks for the great resource! However, it seems that only DVDPLUS purports to still have this in-stock... and I don't believe they ship outside of the UK. Anybody think it's actually OOP, or just between printings?

According to a post I found on criterionforum.org, a rep from Benson's confirmed that these were no longer in print. I can't quite say that's definitive, but they certainly don't seem to be in stock anywhere (save DVDPLUS, if the website is accurate).

I was able to purchase a used set for slightly less than the original SRP, but I see that the amazon vendors have really started to up the price on these sets (even moreso for the second set - perhaps surprisingly given that Criterion has already issued those titles). Anyway, I hadn't previously ordered this set as I'd hoped for a Criterion announcement for "The Milky Way" by now, and then the possibility of English subs on the new French sets... those hopes dashed, I considered it time to place an order!

I suspect Criterion will get to "The Milky Way" eventually, but I'm not sure whether we'll see an English-friendly improvement on "Belle de jour" anytime soon. Anyway, take this info for what it's worth - certainly not the definitive word, but I thought some of you might like to know.

Yeah, I bit the bullet back in October with an Amazon seller on this. Got it for basically full retail, which isn't too bad.

Of course, all these months later, all I've done is briefly sampled Belle de jour... but it does look great. Actually, I'll probably watch Milky Way tonight, now that I'm thinking of it.
