Nathalie-
One of the most anticipated releases this year (by me) Anne Fontaine's new film NATHALIE starring the beautiful Emmanuelle Beart (including Fanny Ardant and Gerard Depardieu) has gotten a release "date"- September (RAMA)
Specific date and disc specs however are not revealed at this point by the French distribs- StudioCanal. (According to LocaFilm the disc will offer English subs)
Nathalie was shown earlier this year in NY as part of the Rendez-Vous film series (an R1 distrib is also secured so it seems that some time in the future a North American release will be available).
Original poster art-

More to follow up soon...
Cheers,
Pro-B

Just a thought (and perhaps a poor one) but I wonder how that R1 distributor plans on marketing this film... wouldn't surprise me if they turned it into some cheap soft porn flick.

....I would not know that but this is anything but a "soft-porn" film. Ha...Pro-B

An interesting and at times fascinating psychological duel that loses it's legs in the second half probably because you can easily figure out how it's going to end. Excellent acting.

P.S. Yes, it's about sex and it's "raw" but it's all about the language/dialogue, not about physical sex.

Don't be so sad pro-bassonist, I have some good news. The Canadian edition of Nathalie will have English subtitles (to be released October 5th). Here's a link:

Now...
Not only I said that the dvd DOES NOT have subs, I actually contacted the guy at RAMA that did the review. In fact, it was Moon33 that indicated to me that the disc does not carry subs. After I emailed the RAMA it was confirmed to me that there are no subs. I guess someone there does not know what they are talking about.
Here's even more confusion, I received more info from another source based in Belgium that the disc is without subs. After that I never really cared to follow up.
With this in mind...first, I dont trust anyone anymore about French specs unless I SEE the dvd (excluding one of my contacts who actually works for a well-known French studio).
Second...many French "reviewers" simply either dont care or...MISS...to indicate whether or not there are subs.
Third, I take the blame for this particular DVD release as I never really followed up (regarding specs/subs) as I should have.

Just repeating what I've put in another thread: bought this disc at the weekend, and English subs are definitely included. I know the Canadian one is coming soon, but for anyone who'd rather have the French R2 & needs English subs, they are on there.

I was on the road for 5 days and was not able to confirm (Dazza already did an excellent job) but for the record my disc also arrived and...and what has been said above is indeed an excellent news- the subs are there.
In addition, I would like to say that this is a beautifully looking disc. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!

Is there a listing of the extras on the Canadian release anywhere? I cant seem to find one that lists the extras, or perhaps there are none on the region 1 release. That would suck.

as I mentioned above it would be really sad if the Canadian version comes as a PAL to NTSC port. I hate to say it but I was right yet again (based on Moon's link to the above article)...the Canadian disc is indeed a PAL to NTSC port which obviously will suffer from the dreaded ghosting.

So, Pro-B (& indeed anyone else), what did you make of the actual film?
I missed it at cinemas here, and heard almost nothing but negative things about it; however, I really liked it. I admit (and as others have pointed out) it doesn't take long for you to realise where it's heading, but getting there makes for an interesting journey. The three main cast are (unsurprisingly) all very good, but I feel that Ardant really walks away with the film.
Echoing Pro-B's earlier post, I too think the actual disc is excellent. It cost me about €22 in-store (which is about what I'd expect), but really is worth every cent. It's not loaded with extras, but the 1/2 hr "making of..." and interesting-sounding commentary from Ardant/Fontaine (I've only listened to a couple of minutes of it) are good enough for me. The DVD case has a nice sort of pink glitter effect on it, too!
So, what do we all reckon to this one?
