La Haine- Special Edition-United Kingdom-September 29

It appears that the Cassel/Kassovitz edgy production LA HAINE is going to receive a SE treatment in the United Kingdom* this September.
As a SE does not appear in France this is indeed a rather interesting news. No additional info is available at this point but I shall update this thread as soon as i get more.

Thank you

For those not in the know, the United Kingdom is made up of England, Scotland, Northern Ireland (nothing to do with the Republic of Ireland) and Wales.

If we all took the time to find out the minimum amount of detail the world would be a better place.

That's an interesting release. I smell DTS.

Hmm, isn't this the same edition that's already out in France for a few years? The "Studio Canal" edition is quite cheap to get nowadays and features an audio commentary, a short film ("Cauchemar blanc") as well as scenes in color, anamorphic picture and several language/subtitle options.

Or is there anything new to this ENGLAND edition? (alright, UK!)

Amen! Here in Boston, MA the british food section in the Stop & Shop supermarket chain is listed as IRISH FOODS!!! I wrote to the chain about it and was referred elsewhere and ignored. Jerks.

And now back to your regularly scheduled, on-topic thread...

It's a new transfer with added DTS apparently.

It's been rereleased in UK cinemas as part of its 10 year anniversary celebration.

I'm glad Tartan has lost their video rights to it. Idiots.

I think UK cinemas are getting this tomorrow?
Good that this new print has new English subs - last time I saw an English-subbed version of this I was amazed at how bad some of the subs were - was it really necessary to change "Asterix" to "Snoopy"? I hope this (among other aspects) has been rectified...

Dazza.

ugh... that article says it'll have BURNT IN subtitles.. on a DVD with a commentary track?!

major, major ugh.

i just saw it for the first time on the big screen in London on a vacation trip.. it's one of my favorite films.. and now they're going to give us a DVD with BURNT IN subtitles.. how can anyone ever come up with such a stupid idea, when the format allows removable subtitles..

stupid, stupid, stupid... looks like i'll have to wait even longer to have this on DVD.

I found out about this film by watching Three Kings. Taghmaoui is brilliant. The burnt in subs are unfortunate but i'll still pick this up.

...this is indeed some rather unfortunate news...though I'd wait and see if this really turns out to be the case.

Yes I could but I was attracted by the "new transfer" thing. I'll wait until it comes out and check for comparisons with the French disc.

doesn't say in the review about the subtitles, but in the comments below the author of the review said he believed them to be burnt in.. guess he wasn't really paying attention..

oh well... a shame they couldn't get it right.

A SE, 10th Anniversary, 3 DVD set has been set for a French release-May 30. Massive extras, DTS...and so far no subs. For those that do no need English subs this should be the definitive version. Otherwise stay with the UK disc.
