US Movies released in other region recommendations??

I am getting a region free, PAL to NTSC converting DVD player on Monday, the Philips 727. I want to start a little collection of other region and PAL movies of US titles that were released with better transfers, audio (DTS), and certainly better extras or completely different versions altogether.

Examples of the ones I am getting are: 1. "Dawn of the Dead" R2 PAL (Dutch) DVD with 140 min director's cut and 114 min Argento cut. 2. "The Last Unicorn" R2 PAL (German) with Anamorphic Widescreen and 5.1 DD. Also, have ordered "Kill Bill" R2 NTSC (Japan)

Can peeps recommend some other US and similar releases that are in the same vain, not nearly same genres, but overall good or great releases that are made so much better because of other country/region/encoded transfers.

I know there is those other threads, but I just want to narrow down since I am mostly a US release kinda guy. Thanks in advance for all help.

The Trainspotting SE will finally get a R1 release on June 1st, if you can wait that long. Ugly cover, though.

No chance, even if the R1 is DTS, to get it Full bitrate like the R2.

Also, just to add my 2 cents:

Fight Club DTS R3 Korea

Hard Rain DTS (R2 Japan or R3 Korea)
- I watched the R2 the other night and I was surprised how much I liked it. The DTS was very very sweet!

Heat DTS R2 Japan

Shawshank Redemption R2 Japan

Happy Gilmore R4 Australia (anamorphic widescreen)

True Lies R3 Korea (anamorphic & cheap (6-9 bucks!)
True Lies R2 Japan DTS

I hear people getting excited all the time talking about PAL discs with DTS sound but doesn't the PAL speedup audio issues kind of spoil the 'improved' sound quality?

Some people are more sensitive to the speedup than others. I'm sensitive to it, so I stay away from English language PAL discs if possible, DTS or not. (PAL speedup on foreign language soundtracks aren't as noticable to me though).

very well said. I did not buy my player almost 4 years ago to watch US movies-though I understand the logic behind it, many would like to see a better quality product of their fave flick. I however bought myself a player to explore foreign cinema that will not show up on US shores. I do however own 2 US films on R4/R2 discs- The Driver and Brokedown Palace (I think courtesy of Bill Geiger).

So, I use my player 99% of the time for foreign films. Pal or no Pal....no problem. Though I am a professional musician with a perfect pitch....and am ready to argue that it will be extremely hard for you if you are not a native speaker to notice Pal-speed up on a Russian or Thai disc....or whatever other language you might come up with.

Where's a good place (reliable, decent prices, and good quantity) to buy HK region 3 American movies?

I know koreandvds.com is a good place for Korean Region 3 US movies but I'm not sure about HK region 3 US movies.

I know HKflix has some, but I've noticed that their prices seem to be a bit higher than most.

I would agree that it is next to impossible for me to notice PAL speedup in foreign films. I was just surprised at how many people buy english PAL discs solely because of the inclusion of a DTS track.

That's all I use my region free player for. DTS and 16x9. And except in 1 case, all of my discs are NTSC. I dont watch foreign films so it makes all the difference to me.
