I hope this helps. Let me put it this way, until the IVL and Japanese sets come out, this is the best version of the movies you can buy. After that, it's anybody's guess.

I ordered the 4-disk box set but the $150 price tag kind of made me cancel it when I learned of the Korean set. Judging by prior Japanese DVDs, I'd guess the R2J PQ/VQ is better because the Korean picture quality isn't perfect and R2J DVDs, from my experience tend to have amazing picture quality.

In asiandvdguide.com it is stated that IVL boxset of Better Tomorrow will be released on June 10. The specs seems to be the same with Korean set ... No price mentioned yet, though ...
John Woo boxset is also stated to be released at the same date

I have the Korean set (haven't watched yet), and the Anchor Bay discs which I haven't watched in a long time. Can you be more specific as to where (chapter/time) those "few brief seconds of print damage" occur? I can check for you and do a comparison but I don't feel like watching both releases in their entirety.

I just checked and the print damage you are referring to isn't on the new Korean release.

A note of warning: I picked up the IVL/Fortune Star HK box set a couple of days ago and watched the first movie last night. The "Engrish" subtitles are TERRIBLE!! You can vaguely follow the gist of what is being said, but whoever did the translation does not speak English very well at all.
Are the subs on the Korean set the same?
The "Code of Bullets" featurettes do have English subs, just as bad as those for the movie.
The video transfer varies from looking very bright and crisp in some shots to very noisy and grainy in others. Overall I'd say it's pretty watchable. The DTS remix was tastefully done and is a lot of fun during the shootouts.

I believe that the Korean & IVL discs probably share the same subtitles. I have the Korean set, and recognized that the old "burned-in" subtitles that used to be on prints have simply been transcribed here. If you recognize lines like "He Killed Dad indirectly" and "I'll!" then the Korean and chinese are the same.

I did when it came out, haven't seen the films before (blind buy) nor can't compare it to any other release but to me it looks ok. Not breathtakingly sharp but very very good for an older HK movie. Not demo quality, just a notch below, still very good. IMHO

I have the Korean set. I have watched the first two titles. The DTS sound mixes for those films are surprisingly beefy and satisfying. I enjoyed 'em a lot! I've heard bad things about other remixes, like the Bruce Lee set, but these ones seems the best so far.
For what its worth, I have owned several versions of these titles. I'm a bit less thrilled with the second film's video (a bit soft) but the first film has definitely never looked better.

I see Spectrum has released The Killer and Bullet in the Head. Should I just assume the audio/video quality is the same as the recently released IVL/Fortune Star versions of the Killer and Bullet in the Head?
