For an update on the Fight Club situation...*sigh*

"Bitwin again failed to deliver as they promised.

Heat, Seven, Beatles were never delivered to major suppliers. This is the very reason why we took Fight Club off of our list which is to be released 3/4 by Fox. Bitwin is the major distributor of Fox and we were afraid that the same would happen with Fight Club. Their policy is causing a big stir in the Korean DVD Forums as the titles were put on preorders. Online resellers are pretty upset too.

However we were able to obtain minimal number of orders by picking few copies at eMart, Korean version of Walmart, where Bitwin does most of its retail sales.
Unfortunately, this was the best we could do and refunds must be issued to some customers.

We will contact each individual customers some time tomorrow to remedy the situation."

This absolutely sucks. 3 of my titles were Bitwin titles. So now I'm just waiting to see if I get ANY of them. Total Recall, Basic Instinct and Fight Club. *sigh*

I have brought about 8 DVD's from them, and they only thing that makes me apprehensive about the purchase is the Warning regarding CENSORSHIP. Korean DVD need to indicate on the Detail Section of each DVD whether the DVD is Censored / Cut.

KoreanDVD do email people regarding Censorship e.g. MALENA was only censored in Korean Subs, but Irriversible is Censored in English. This info shoulf be highlighted in the DVD detail Section. I would hate to purchase a DVD e.g only to find BLACK BARS / MOSAIC / CUTS.

IMHO this addition is essential. Presently I use DVDCompare.net to tell, but sometime the cust are not listed / unknown.

Cheers

I think you should assume that any below the waist nudity will be censored in most Korean DVD releases. AFAIK, Malena is the only exception where the Eng sub will be uncensored.

Movies like Showgirl or Basic Instinct are very likely censored in Korean version.

So check for the censorship before you buy any R, NC-17 or unrated movies on Korean DVD's.

The Korean release of Showgirls makes no sense. One scene blurred in the 'uncut' version isn't in the 'cut' version. Maybe it was the only elements available to them. The cut version is anamorphic and dts while the uncut is non-anamorphic.

hi, got some dumb question here:
placed an order on 26th
now, it says (in my "package tracking"):
status: IN PROGRESS AIRMAIL

does it mean that the item was shipped? or still in "pending"?

sorry this is my 1st time dealing with these guys

thanx again

digitalfreaknyc 03-02-04 09:35 PM

It means that it's pending. It has NOT shipped yet. When it's shipped...it'll say so.

Bill Geiger 03-02-04 11:57 PM

Well, my gf watched Showgirls yesterday. The sound, for some reason, sounded better than the Japanese DTS. I believe it was the same full bitrate but to me it just sounded better.

She said there were about 3 or 4 "blurs" yet other times when they "should have been" they were not.

Anyway, regardless of the release coming in R1...I'm keeping my R3 as the DTS is definitely reference material.

Uh, I think koreandvds.com has gone out of business OR been sold because everytime I type in the URL, it goes to cafedvd.co.kr!

peter07 03-11-04 09:37 PM

Does anyone else have a problem with being redirected when trying to log into koreandvds.com?

Bill Geiger 03-14-04 10:13 AM

the cafedvd.co.kr is their Korean site. I would suggest clearing out your cookies and trying the site again.

Yes they are but Michael is VERY often on the messenger. He's a really nice guy and he actually had my discs packaged and put the mail the same day I talked to him. He can answer any of your questions.

Yes, happens EVERY time when using Safari. But doesn't happen when using Internet Explorer.

Also Koreandvds.com doesn't get the text encoding correctly so non-roman text is garbled, and if you have "Auto-Select Encoding" turned off in Internet Explorer Half the site doesn't work at all (seach, browse categories)
