Question about City of God R4 DVD

Since Miramax has delayed the US release until June, I'm thinking about picking up the Brazilian release. Do ALL of the extra features (documentary, making of, etc.) have English subtitles available, though? That's my biggest concern. Any information would be appreciated!

There's also an R2 available in case you did not know about it already which I'm sure will have english subtitles for everything.

I was aware there was an R2 available, but wasn't sure if it had the same features as the R4. Do you know if it does?

I believe the R2 only has the hour-long documentary in the extra features.

for the r4 only the movie and the making of has subs. nothing else. The R2 as far as I believe has an hour doc. about the favelas. Is this in english? or is it subbed? is either one though. I'm sure that the R1 when it comes out will be identical to the R2. meaning same doc. There is also an R3 with DTS that might tight you over until the R1 or if you just want the movie it might be a cheaper alternative.

I believe both releases are identical save for the R4 is currently rental only. If you check at dvd-basen.dk there are links to a few reviews of the R4.

LAYOYO has the R3 for US $9.49, as well as a "T-Shirt Edition" for a little over $25.

remember R4 is Australia and South America.

The AU one has only the doco, but the Brazilian one has a lot more. As for subtitles I think it does on the main feature, but unsure on the special features, and on the site I went to it was not clear whether the image was 16:9 enhanced or not.

The Brazilian release is non-anamorphic unfortunately, which is a crying shame as the Miramaxe transfers are very nice. It's a deal breaker for some such as myself...

I'm sorry. when I wrote R4 I meant the Brazilian R4. any versions from AU or from anywhere else in South America besides Brazil I do not know. The Brazilian R4 has subs in the main feature and in the making off. all the other extras are not subbed. Anyone bought the R3? how does it compare to the others? I have the brazilian R4 two-disc set, but when the R1 comes out I might double dip for the docu.

The R3 has a great dts track, but the video is not as crisp as the AU R4. Allowing for PAL / NTSC it isn't quite as nice.. Also missing the 60min feature which is a must have

I think that the R4 is still part of the "rental window" practice as of now.

According to Atlantic it should be available in April:

I'd say you wait.....non-anamorphic transfer is always an issue (for me).

cheers,

Does the R3 release of this have ONLY a DTS track and nothing else? A couple of sellers seem to be implying that. For anyone out there who has one, can you let me know if it also has DD? Thanks!

I have the UK R2. Great anamorphic transfer and 5.1 soundtrack and that 1 hour documentary is fascinating.
