I ordered Ronin from YesAsia while the coupon was still good, and they accepted the order, but when I look at the status it says the disc is on "Preorder".

Should I be concerned that they aren't actually going to be able to obtain the disc?

Josh, as I did not order from Yesasia, I do not know. However, best way to find out is to drop them an email or give them a call.

Will definitely do that, Bill. Was just curious if anyone else had encountered this "preorder" situation with YesAsia before. Maybe it's just a glitch in their software and the order itself will be fine?

Nope..didn't get the preorder status.....when I ordered, it immediately showed "processing"

You should definitely call them.

off topic fyi ...

Don't know how many of you guys are Daredevil fans. but the bargins forum has a thread with a 5.00 off coupon for participating US retailers.

Well, YesAsia responded to my email today and claim that they can still get the disc. Will report more later if it turns out that they don't follow through.

I find it funny that you used the word "claim" as if they won't. LOL. I am hoping you get it. It is fantastic!

The way they worded their response leaves me skeptical as to whether they understand the meaning of "Limited Edition". Something tells me that they think they can still get the disc on backorder from the distributor. If that's what they're waiting on, it's going to be a long wait.

I have an alternate source for the disc, but it would be more expensive. So for the time being I'm going to wait and see how YesAsia does.

Are there any other US retailers that sell imported (Region 2, Japan) DVDs besides Yesasia?

CDJapan is tough..because their shipping is pretty high. HMV japan is also high on shipping. Amazon Japan is good on shipping and even when you choose the slow as a snail shipping service, it arrives quickly (under 7 days when it is supposed to be 30). At least it did for me. Yesasia is good in the fact that their shipping is cheap and prices either match or beat any of the other Japan sites.

If ordering from one of the above suppliers, except Yesasia, what are your chances of getting "tagged" by Customs?

I live in the UK so not sure how it will affect residents in the U.S but i always get hit by customs when using CDJapan despite marking the order down as a 'gift' on the order form and this relates to both registered airmail and EMS shipping as i've used both depending on the value of the item.
I've not used Amazon Japan but i have used HMV Japan...their packages are delivered by Fedex and at first i thought i had got away without paying customs on items i've received from them...however!!...Fedex send an invoice a week or two after delivery demanding the charges etc.

Well, as stating regarding Amazon Japan, I believe mine was shipped to their California office and then sent to me because the zip code was a california zip! I dunno.

Should be vailid until 8/4/03.

They also have X-men 2 and the X1 & X2 DVD set up for pre-order (pretty steep).

YesAsia tells me the discs have shipped. So I guess they could still get it.

Or I'll find out whenever the package gets here (used SuperSaver shipping, so it may be a while).

I got my copy of Ronin this Friday together with Jurassic Park 1 and 2 on Superbit dvd's.

I watched several scenes of all three discs just to see how they are and I can say that they are all worth of buying.
Ronin looks and sounds great and is much better than the current version released in region 01.
Jurassic Park's DTS soundtrack realy blew me away with loud bass and detailed sounds, it's much better than the DTS track on the region 01 release and repress of this disc.
The Lost World also sounded much better and his region 01 counterpart with more bass and defined sounds.

Well my next purchesses are going to be Jumanji Superbit and Last Action Hero Superbit.
I am very curious to know what they will bring.

Compression was way better on JP. Both R1 discs always should compression artifacts in the grass in the scene where the first get to the island and drive out to see the dinos.

I listened to the repressed R1 DTS back to back with this superbit DTS and thought they sounded identical.

I have plans on buying the Jumanji Superbit as well. Please let me know regarding the Last Action Hero Superbit...I do have interest in that.

"I received an email from yesasia that said it SHOULD be 16:9. let me know though. I am gonna check it out in the theater this Friday"

Bill:

Yes, it is anamorphic. The picture seems to be a little grainy at times (but with all the "sky shots," I guess it's be expected). I did notice some pixel. and digital breakup on some grassy fields etc. But, overall the pretty fair picture.

Great DTS soundtrack. You feel you are in the middle of the flights/scenes. Probably limited repeat viewing, but fun demo material for the Discovery Channel crowd.

Ron

PS: I can't seem to find Jurassic Park Superbit version. Can someone point me in the correct direction?

Thanks

Ouch-around $40 bucks. Is that a fair price for the superbit versions?

Ron
