That's the R3 version. I received mine a couple of days ago. The DTS track is excellent.

What exactly is this "EVD"?
Someone point me in the general direction.

So my question is whether these EVDs have English subtitles.

It stands for Enhanced Video Disc. It's the new Chinese version of HD-DVD, one they've developed independently and is not likely to catch the approval of the official DVD forum. So you probably won't see it outside of China, and the title selection is almost certainly going to be limited. But it's an interesting development nonetheless.

I've been putting off purchasing Hero so I can get the extended version on dvd -- any recent news on a release?

(Sorry if bumping this thread got anyone's hopes up - the subject should really be updated to "Hero Ext Ver - when will it be released?")

No doubt. Can we make a pact that when this actually happens, it gets a new thread so we know for sure?

I think this forum needs a post-it titled Release Updates, Frequent Topics, Newcomer Help (similar to the one in the DVD Talk area)....that way this thread can be deleted once and for all.

I think there needs to be something programmed into the forum script that automatically scans for the words "Hero" and "Extended" used together in a sentence and blocks that post from being made, unless it's immediately followed by a date and two sources.

Sorry sorry sorry (again)!
I've reported the thread to the mod so hopefully they'll change the title.

So no news huh?

</small> Going to maintain it?

If we're to get a new sticky we probably need to drop an older one....

If the extended version doesn't come out soon I'm gonna buy the damn EVD version!

btw, I haven't seen one EVD title announcement since the players were announced.

I find it odd no one has reviewed this phantom cut of the movie after its supposed release, or am i wrong?

Well, it looks like hivizone.com is selling the Shinco EVD player AND with the 5 free discs.

https://www2.setssl.com/~hivizone/dv...main_frame.htm

So get your credit card out and it's yours for $245 + $80 s/h !
Just remember no English subs on Hero (or any other EVD most likely).

Hey, I'm half considering it. I wonder if this player would ever be available in Chinatown in Toronto (I know they mostly have HK rather than mainland Chinese electronics though) because I really don't want to pay an arm and a leg for shipping or risk having it damaged in transit. Hmmmm.

It's supposed to be, but like others have said, there doesn't seem to be any review of the disc anywhere (not in English anyway). I would hate to actually break down and buy the player with the EVD and find out its the same cut as the DVD. I'd be pissed.
