...well...

1) ...actually, it is the Bertrand Tavernier - Philippe Noiret boxset... click on the individual titles for details...

2) ...all six movies are French language only - there are no subtitles (not even for the French HoH)...

3) ...extras include interviews, photo galleries...

...if I may misquote the shopkeeper from the brilliant UK TV series "The League of Gentlemen": "This is a local boxset! It is for local people only!"...

But...according to Cdiscount.com, at least L'APPÂT and L 627 come w/ eng subs. That's why I ask you to check it out. I thought you may have the boxset.

...well, according to dvdfr neither has any subs (btw, neither features Philippe Noiret) - of course they may be wrong - but then so might Cdiscount (for instance cinéstore doesn't mention subs for "L 627", and à la page doesn't mention subs for "L'Appât")... don't know what boxset Cdiscount offers - the point of the Tavernier-Noiret set is that they are all movies directed by BT and starring PN... and, no, I don't have that set - still have some 200 unwatched DVDs to plow through, so no new purchases for me - for the time being anyway ... ...

Cinémascope
Full Screen (Standard) - 1.33:1

...trust AMAZON (US, UK, Germany, France) to always give correct information - NOT...!...

"some even have English dub track"

...erm... look at the cast list for La mort en direct: this movie° was made in English - if anything, the disc includes a French dub...

(°based on D.G. Compton's novel The Continuous Katherine Mortenhoe)

well.....I could only hope that Ted Todorov stops by as I if I could recall he was GOING TO BUY these. I am sure he will be able to confirm that there are indeed English subs.

ps
I do agree that the Amazon(s) sometimes make mistakes however it seems quite unlikely to me that Amazon.Fr messed up the specs for all of the above mentioned releases, ALL OF THEM BRAND NEW, and all of them containing wrong sub-description.

To quote Ted from that other forum:

"Great news!!! All of them have English subtitles (or are English language audio in the first place), except for A Week's
Vacation
, which only has French and Italian tracks..."

That is a quote, no guarantees here - contact him or wait for him to come here - he's the man.

if you are talking about the boxset linked by Hendrik which contains these films:

- L'horloger de Saint-Paul
- Que la fête commence...
- Le juge et l'assassin
- Coup de torchon
- La Vie et rien d'autre
- Les Feux de la rampe - Vol. 01 - Philippe Noiret

None of these films have subs of any kind. "Le juge et l'assassin" and "L'horloger de Saint-Paul" have an Italian and a German audio track, in addition to the french track.

This was confirmed to me by someone who actually owns this set.

...thank you eXcentris...! ! !...

...to recapitulate:

...'the' (Noiret/Tavernier) boxset is the ONLY 'boxset' mentioned on the dvdfr site - and, I'd say, the only one making any sense since, as I pointed out above, that particular 'boxset' contains movies that STAR PHILIPPE NOIRET and are DIRECTED BY BERTRAND TAVERNIER...

...while the other movies mentioned are a total hodgepodge - perhaps I should point out here that M. Tavernier's movies go in all directions, he doesn't stick to
a particular genre (or style) - he has made policiers, comédies, drames, science fiction, even semi-documentaries (ça commence aujourd'hui)...

...so... if Moon33's inquiry about "the Bertrand Tavernier french boxset" concerned the NOIRET/TAVERNIER set (which, incidentally, is merely a repackaging of previously released DVDs), I stand by my "no subs" comment,
also confirmed by eXcentris...

...if, on the other hand, Moon33's inquiry was about ANY OTHER "BOXSET" - perhaps one specifically offered (?only?) by Cdiscount - then go by what Ted Todorov says or said on that "other" Forum (but: did he say he actually owned those,
or did he just take his information from the amazon.fr site?
)...

...WHEW!... (wipes perspiration from forehead)

. . . . . .

...Yup!... (except, of course, that what I said about the NOIRET/TAVERNIER set indeed is the absolute truth)...

(...incidentally, are you absolutely sure there is such a thing as a specifically Tavernier "Boxset"??? I didn't find any anywhere - went to Cdiscount but was quickly discouraged by the totally discombobulated, off-the-wall "layout" of that site - surely one of the worst I've come across in my peregrinations on the web...)

Yes, in fact the Cdiscount search engine is something I couldn't handle. Maybe there is not a boxset afterall. The titles that I'm looking for are:
La Mort en direct
L.627
L'Appât
Un dimanche à la campagne
Capitaine Conan
Une semaine de vacances
Daddy nostalgie
All are released on Feb, 2003.

...La Mort en direct - a.k.a. "Deathwatch" - is, as already mentioned above, an English-language film, kinda sci-fi-ish... NO SUBTITLES NEEDED

...Capitaine Conan is about WW 1 (and is available on R1 DVD)...

...Daddy Nostalgie is an English-language film (mostly) a.k.a. "These Foolish Things" - "A miniature jewel of a film . . . acted and directed with great subtlety" Variety

...L627° - "With extraordinary documentary realism, the director has produced one of his best and most challenging films." Variety
°The title refers to the legislation against the possession and use of narcotics.

...Sunday In The Country - "Delightful, slight and moving sketch for a drama, which gives nothing but pleasure yet is hard to recapture" Halliwell's

...L'Appât - a.k.a. "Fresh Bait" - is... well... I rather agree with this capsule review...

...not mentioned by you: Ca commence aujourd'hui (English subs provided) - two thumbs and five toes UP (also available on R1 DVD)...

. . . . . .
