The Princess Blade DVD

I'm interested in getting the new Princess Blade DVD from the UK. Has anyone seen this movie? Supposedly Donnie Yen is doing the action scenes so it should be good right?

I saw Princess Blade @ the San Francisco Int. Film Fest.

And from what I remember,
I'd tell ya to pass on buying this movie.

Donnie Yen was just the action director.
He doesn't appear anywhere in the movie at all.
And while the fight scenes are nice eye candy,
it's nothing you haven't seen before.

BUT...
if the movie had the overalll energy of the fights...
then it woulda been a movie worth buying...

Cause when there wasn't a fight scene,
the movie damn near put me to sleep...

not to give much of the movie a way in terms of spoilers...
(minor spoilers)

the movie starts out with the gratuitous action scene...
then the main character has her revalation that causes her to run
which leads to her being chased...
(this is like the first 20 mins (at most) of the movie)

then you have a whole section of the movie
which is pure fluff...
it's the part where she tries to settle down...
live the normal life...
tries to figure out what to do...

this boring (yet beautifully shot)
crap lasted for what seemed an eternity
it was so damn SLOW...

THEN...
out of no where,
the crew from the action scene in the beginning shows up
and the final fight scene starts...

like the first fight scene...
nice eye candy...
but, the timing was all wrong...
like i said, it came out of no where...
i was stuck in the realm of blah due to the pacing of the movie
and then to be thrown by the film maker
into some kinetic action w/ no build up...
i, like many others i saw it with, felt robbed of a story...
the fight served no purpose except for the need to end the movie

the only redeeming thing about this movie
is the beautiful scenery...

the fights/action scenes alone
do not warrent a purchase
let alone - a rental...
sucker a friend into either buying it or renting it
and bum it off of them...

note -
my appreciation (or lack there of) for the Princess Blade
maybe due to my high expectations of the movie...
as the movie I saw just before PB @ the film fest.
was the uncut print of Iichi the Killer =)
and maybe i was expecting the same "WOW"- factor

but, then again...
i think my money would have been better spent (a lot better)
on watching Fulltime Killers there...
and if this doesn't give you a sense of how good
the Princess Blade was
then...........

Thanks for the review Wing. I read a few different reviews elsewhere and they were pretty mixed. I'll probably end up getting it just for the action anyways. Are there any places that have a pre-order of this besides AmazonUK?
