Ntsc "ring" Dvd Problem W/malata 520

I purchased the NTSC edition of RING (barcode 020204498) distributed by Premier International. When I attempt to play it back on the Malata 520, the picture "skips" and the soundtrack is very warbled as if the disc is not spinning at the correct speed. In fact, if you watch the time code on the display, you'll notice that it plays normal for a second or two then speeds up a second before slowing down again. This problem does not occur on my region 1 Pioneer player or even on the Xbox. Any suggestions? I would really like to be able to play this on the Malata 520 since the picture is permanently "squeezed" and requires the x-y scaling feature to return it to its normal aspect ratio.

I'm sorry, but that's a total bootleg. The picture on the cover is just the Tartan DVD with the Tartan logo taken off from the top and the image stretched - especially in the back. Those who have the Tartan release can vouch for this... look at your copies and compare to this picture:

Anyway - I'm not surprised it doesn't work right, the people who made this didn't have the proper conversion tools to go from PAL to NTSC I guess.

Demand your money back from the seller! Was it shrinkwrapped? or used...

Wow, I guess a lot of people are getting ripped off!
I don't believe this DVD was shrinkwrapped when it arrived.
I still don't know why it won't play on the Malata-520. I thought this machine would play anything!

Anything but a poorly mastered bootleg.

I ordered the PAL Region 2 edition of this movie plus its sequel.
Any comments on the quality of these two releases?

Yeah - the quality is good - not excellent, but it'll no doubt be much better than what you have there. The Tartan releases are actually Region 0 which doesn't matter unless you want to play em on your Xbox. Avoid getting Ring 0 (prequel to Ring) - it sucks.

Ring 0 was very good. A departure from the "creepy atmosphere" of Ring. More the development (drama) of Sadako when she was young and a hottie. I enjoyed it more than Ring 2, which takes off right where Ring ended.

You'll find a diverse range of opinions on Ring 2 and Ring 0. I personally like the trilogy. Never saw Rasen though.

Ring 0 was not directed by Hideo Nakata

I think it's a sure bet that the trilogy on ebay is a boot as well.
