S-Video... I will check the tilt when I get home. Would this only apear on PAL DVDs?

Thanks

It's only the first half of the bars (not the full width) that are flickering?

RoseArt:

I was able to recreate that bar flicking syndrome on one of the HKL DVDs.

I had the SMART Filter on and it happened (the rest of the picture was nice and steady). I switched to the STILL Filter and the bar stopped flicking.

However, you could see that there is a half bar that is not the full width of the frame at the top.

I don't have a tilt adjustment as Matt suggested, but saw one on my pops new Sony TV. I figure that might be a remedy for it. Tilt one degree clockwise and put on the STILL filter and let us know if that works.

Gald someone else sees it. Didn't have time this weekend to check the tilt. Will soon.

When I went to STILL is stopped too, but I got those horizontal lines when something moved fast on the screen.

Thanks axolotls.

Yes, Ring and Ring 2, but I also noticed it on L'Appartment... I assume it would be on other PAL DVDs as well..

I have tried running the video and audio through my stereo and then to the TV by coax, but I only get music (no picture). I have also tried running it through my VCR and switching to Line 1, but with the same results. Using the VCR method, I can turn off the Malata and turn it back on and I get the welcome screen from the Malata, but then it goes black.
You need to go to Radio Shack and buy an adaptor to convert the RCA output to a coaxial connection.

That's what I figured. We're outta luck.. It also happens on Ring 0. I believe they are incorrectly flagged discs... the Malata can't fix or second guess; and it's the PAL -> NTSC conversion anyways.

BTW. Drop me an e-mail, I have something(s) you're looking for.

That's kinda what I figured, since all my PAL DVDs were not this way. Oh well, I can live with it.

Subtitling Problem? Namak Halaal on Malata N996

Hi Everyone,

I watched Namak Halaal last night - and encountered what appears to be a subtitling problem. The subtitles were lagging behind the voice track so that as Actor 2 starts talking, Actor 1's subtitle from his (Actor 1's) last spoken words is displayed. Has anyone else encountered this with this disc? The lag seems to take place in about the middle of the second half of the film, but I don't remember the exact point. Has anyone else experienced the problem and/or found a fix? Thanks in advance for replies.

Try going into the Malata's "Subpicture" menu and changing the setting from Always to Never (or vice versa, I forget which). That might help, but remember to switch it back when you are done with this one disc.

I tried all three settings but no dice - the odd thing is that the subtitles were fine for the first half of the film (on the middle subpicture selection - don't remember what it is, but it is not Always or Never). Do I have to stop/restart the disc when changing subpicture settings? Thanks.

No. Are you sure it isn't the DVD?

When I first posted my question, I could have sworn it was in a new thread because that was my thinking - it most likely is the disc (esp since the subs in the first half of the film are fine). Just wanted to cover all bases.

</small>My thinking is and was that we aren't going back to the days of a bazillion "problem" threads with "malata" in the title: as a rule, in nearly all cases I am simply going to merge them.

By all means cover all bases in the body of the post but if "malata" finds it way into the title then there is a very good chance that I will merge it. Sorry, but that is the way it is.

No problem - sounds reasonable to me. I'm just glad to know that I wasn't imagining things.

I don't have time to read through all these threads to find the answer to this question so I didn't read any... sorry...

Here's the problem I'm having and I'm wondering if it's a common problem or if it's a setting...

My Malata (the original one from AVDeals, not the new one) is having DTS dropouts. When using the DTS track, the sound completely drops out every once in awhile. It sucks. Anyone?

Trigger,
The DTS dropout was a major complaint for users of the N996.
I have personally not had the issue... word is, the latest firmware fixes this problem, and it's also region free!
I have not flashed my N996, and don't have the problem, so can't confirm...

I've never had a problem playing DTS DVDs in my 996, however I recently tried to play a DTS CD and the machine couldn't get more than 20 seconds into the first song before it started skipping like crazy. My other DVD player handled the disc fine.

So if I use the firmware update, I'll be able to get the DTS dropouts to stop and I'll be able to have the player be region free all the time instead of having to press and hold clear and then press 3 or 2 and play? That would be cool. Any negatives?

Trigger,
The new firmware fixes the DTS drop, and makes your system all-region. No more button pressing to switch regions...

The negative is having to manually solder the motherboard components to enable and disable the firmware flash function.
