Would one of you who owns one be able to walk her through it? Could you tell me which model number you picked up at Best Buy and if it matches the picture above or does it look different. Please and thank you.
Ok, Tell her to press the setup button on the remote control
Then choose "general setup" from the menu
Then choose "TV Type" and it will give her a choice of "DTSC", "Multi", and "PAL". Choose "NTSC", and it should now work.

Right, but she's saying that the Region 3 disc just won't play at all... I don't think the PAL NTSC thing is an issue at the moment. Any other advice? She said the player looks like the one in the picture above. The site has taken that page down and is now selling a different Norcent model and is not saying that it's multiregion. Thanks in advance.

I will try unplugging it again. I put the DVD in and it says Disc Loading, then it says
Wrong Region. I don't even have to hit the play button.

I also tried putting the setting on NTSC. I turned it off and unplugged it. I put the DVD back
in after turning it on and it immediately says Disc Loading, then Wrong Region.

Help!!!!
Can someone help out here? Is this a lost cause? Should she return it? Is there a region free player out there that she could use for under 100 bucks?

The Daewoo DV-5700 units at Sam's Club (haven't seen any at Wal-Mart) are being phased out in favour of the newer DV-5800. The DV-5700 units were $79.95 over here and they are "region-free" via the remote control (secret menu option).

I just tried reg 3 Battle Royale and reg 4 Hard Target and they both worked without a hitch. I checked the dvd player box and it said version 1 on a sticker on the outside, so maybe you can check that out.

FYI! This thing already crapped out on me. I think it's because of how hot it gets, especially if left on. The movies will start freezing up. I'm gonna try and take it back to Best Buy tomorrow. Hopefully they'll let me even though I don't have a reciept.

Your credit card receipt? Or print out the latest entries for your credit card statement that shows BB sold an item to you for that price?
