Bunuel and Ray on DVD

Just found out some really great old Luis Bunuel films -- Los Olvidados and Criminal Life of Archibaldo De La Cruz -- and one by Satyajit Ray -- The Music Room -- are on DVD w/English subs. Only problem is that the only place I've seen them listed so far is at a site previously unknown to me called Cinestore.com and I'm not sure if their prices are particularly good. In fact, since I can't read French, I'm not even sure how much the shipping is. Oddly enough, AmazonFrance doesn't even list them and neither does DVDZone2, where I usually buy my Eurostuff. Anyone have a clue what's happening here?

FYI: ...note that DVDZone2 is a Belgian site, not a French one... for that reason they may well be unable to sell some French DVD releases...

...the French suppliers I order from regularly are (Cinéstore) and A la page...

http://www.alapage.com/mx/?tp=L&type...nee=&mots_cle=

Have you ordered from dvdw.fr and if so, how is their service?

Thanks.

Hendrik: do you think you could find some comments on the transfer/sound quality of Los Olvidados?

...the disc is on its way to me as I write... will report here as soon as I've watched it... (note: if the 'quality' is anything like the French DVD of Buñuel's Viridiana I'll be a happy camper!)

The Viridiana disc is very tempting, but there are no English subtitles on that one, right?

One more annoying question: any suggestions whether to go with standard shipping or express train (whatever the heck that is)?

... nope - no English subs... as for shipping: I have no idea - when they are in stock, the discs I order from alapage are delivered to my door (I have to sign for them) four or five days after I order them ... but then I'm in Switzerland, which is only some 400 miles away from gay Paree...

(oddly, the quickest deliveries by far are from EzyDVD/Australia -
e.g. "Gladiator" and "The Patriot" ordered 11.30p.m. Swiss time on August 19,
in my mailbox August 23!)

...strange world...

I recently received the Los Olvidados and The Criminal Life of Archibaldo de la Cruz/El DVDs from from DVDGO.com, a reliable Spanish vendor.

Though these discs are from France, they are NTSC and all-region. The remastering looks great and the translations are well done. Unfortunately, the short film Las Hurdes that's included on the Los Olvidados disc hasn't been remastered, nor does it have any subtitles. In fact, it features an awful voiced-over narration in French only.

These discs are superb and make a great introduction to Bunuel's Mexican-period work, a period just as fertile and imaginative as his early French surrealism and his later sophisticated French collaborations with Carriere.
