Amazon Prime - $72 This Saturday (01/24/15)

To celebrate Transparent's win at the Golden Globes, Amazon is airing the show for free, and dropping the price of an Amazon Prime membership.

I don't know if it'll work on renewals. The press release says "new members".

This Saturday, starting at 12:01 a.m. ET and concluding at 11:59 p.m. PT, everyone can watch Transparent using the Amazon Instant Video app for TVs, connected devices and mobile devices, or online at Amazon.com/Transparent. Also in celebration of Transparent and the 72nd Annual Golden Globe Awards, customers can sign up for Amazon Prime for just $72 this Saturday.

Amazon today announced that in celebration of two recent Golden Globe wins, it will make all ten episodes of Amazon Original Series Transparent available for free for everyone this Saturday. Transparent, which is typically available exclusively to Amazon Prime members, recently took home the Golden Globe for Best Musical or Comedy Series, while its star, Jeffrey Tambor, earned the coveted award for Best Actor in a Musical or Comedy Series. Anyone can watch Transparent at no cost on Saturday using the Amazon Instant Video app for TVs, connected devices and mobile devices, or online at Amazon.com/Transparent. Also on Saturday and in celebration of the 72nd Annual Golden Globe Awards, Amazon Prime will be available for just $72a more than 25 percent savings. New members can sign up for this limited-time Prime offer at Amazon.com/TransparentPrime.

I share an account with someone, who is the main. I wonder if I am considered a "new" member.

I've had free trials before, I'm curious if this will work for me.

At worst, I just use my wife to sign up and we get it that way.

You might have to turn off auto-renew for the self gift trick to work. Gift has to be set for within a year of the current date, so no multi year renewals.

You can get 2 years if you are new, apparently. Buy 1st one, then gift yourself one with a date of a day or two prior to expiration of your current subscription. They will send you an email with that info, then use that to renew.

I was sharing an account with people, so I didn't have streaming options, but now I will and I'll get 2 years for $150. Great deal, IMHO.

You can also get partial refunds on current memberships. So technically everyone can get two years for $144.

An effective savings of $7 (barring their outrageous $20 increase late last year). But, hey, it's a bone, right?

My membership just renewed yesterday and with a quick chat with CS, they are refunding the $27. Worth a shot, if yours has just renewed recently. They did say because I hadn't used it today or yesterday that that is why they were making an "exception."

Re: Amazon Prime - $72 This Saturday (01/24/15)

After a long phone call (long time on hold getting approval, not a long time demanding a refund), they gave me the "one time exception" refund of $27 on my recent renewal.

Thanks for the heads-up.

I still have no clue how to turn off auto renewal. Checked prime settings and I don't see anything in there.

I had that problem last year. you have to go like you are canceling it. I know is counter intuitive but once you do that you will see the option.

when i go there, i have 3 options:

continue membership, remind me later or end membership. nothing there about auto-renew. i don't get why Amazon is making this so hard to find.

End membership. It may give you and option for an immediate cancellation and partial refund; and/or it'll just tell you that you won't be charged again and your membership will end a year from your last payment.

They used to have an actual button for ending the automatic renewal. I guess too many people could figure out how to end their Prime membership, so they have hidden it as Trevor describes.

Re: Amazon Prime - $72 This Saturday (01/24/15)

I cancelled my prime back in early November 2014 and It saved me a lot of money. I did get a 50.00 GC and used it around 2/1 with free shipping on 35.00 but no orders from when I cancelled until then. I would really be surprised If I make another order this year unless it is to use my reward points on something I really need and the free shipping level.... Or they start shipping by drone in my area, I might pay 5.00 for that.

Re: Amazon Prime - $72 This Saturday (01/24/15)

Just a question about Amazon prime student. Say I have an email from when I was in college and it still works, and say I can forward it to on my main email account and sign up for prime Student to get the discounted price. Can Amazon do anything to prevent me from doing this after the fact
