Re: One & Only BMG Music Service Thread (Part 5)

I went to yourmusic and entered that code to see what it brings up and there is a "Get your free cd" picture and when it click on it it gives the following:

• Subscribe to yourmusic.com
• Add a CD to your "cart"
• Click on "view cart"
• Click on the "redeem" pull-down menu
• Click on "update" and proceed to checkout

Limit two (2) per household
So those of us with more than one account can at least get 2 more free if we sign up here...

Re: One & Only BMG Music Service Thread (Part 5)

It might be worth joining Yourmusic.com for the free selection if I still want a pick knowing that I can quit anytime. I can't see myself staying with Yourmusic like I would BMG.

-I don't like that you have to have a credit card registered with them or having to try and weasel around that requirement.

-I don't like that they'll charge you automatically whether you have a disc in queue or not.

-I don't like that if an item is TOOS, they'll go three deep into the queue before they decide they won't charge you. With all of the TOOS's lately, this may come into play more than I'd like. You'd basically always want to have at least three picks in your queue at all times.

-It seems to take most of the power and control out of the member's hands.

This'll probably be the end of CD clubs for me.

I'm personally going to take a "wait and see" approach as far as Yourmusic is concerned. Maybe with the influx of new members coming over from BMG in June, maybe some of these current membership rules will change.

Doctor X, did you enter the code while signed in? I am wondering if the code works for existing Yourmusic members. (I recently suspended my account for a while, so I can't test it myself.)

Re: One & Only BMG Music Service Thread (Part 5)

No, I just went to the main page an put the code in. I canceled my membership with yourmusic at the end of the summer last year when the selection went away. I justified staying with them when the selection was decent because I had a queue that had about 35 cds that I actually wanted. I used the list to keep track of what I wanted from the free BMG codes and I woud pay $7 for a cd I really want.

Now I am having a hard time finding a cd I would pay 2.79 for.

Still adding new titles. They have Coldplay's Prospekt's March EP now. I recommend it. Well, I recommend it at 90% off, which is the way I ordered it. $1.20 plus shipping.

You just can't beat the music selections (catalog) at Amazon, Half.com, eBay, etc.

Are you listening BMG/Yourmusic.com ???

Re: One & Only BMG Music Service Thread (Part 5)

I ordered one of the closeout discs @$1.99, and now it is listed as "temporarily out of stock." If they are truly clearance items, wouldn't they be permanently out of stock? Are they jerking me around, or is this simply a software glitch indicating a delay in the order? The item "Hilary Hahn - Bach Violin Concertos" is still listed online for purchase.

I'm confused. Can anyone shed any light?

That's really weird. I can't ever recall getting a TOOS on a clearance item, but lately it seems anything is possible at BMG Music.

I had this happen a few years ago and after a couple of months they finally admited the selection was no longer available. I would not expect it to ever come back in stock and get shipped, but you can never tell with BMG. They also are very slow updating their database. I *think* this occurs about once a week on Monday nights.

I figure I'm SOL. I waited too long to order that Hilary Hahn disc. Oh well, I'll find it used some day.

So, have they moved up the date that they are closing down?
An earlier notice stated that you could shop online through the end of June.
The more recent notice (url is above) that was posted says through the end of May.

Also, have they notified members with only an online membership that the club is closing? I get too many emails to keep track of all of them, but I dont think I have been notified. I havent gotten anything in the mail. Just curious.

but I'm not surprised considering half the time they don't send me shipping confirm emails or TOOS alerts (I find out TOOS on the invoice when only one disc is in the package).
