I hope you're right, however, with the recent contract fallout and the "Tell A Friend" special being no more it's not looking good for BMG. You even said it yourself (see the bolded section) that CD sales aren't what they used to be. It does make me wonder, though, if BMG will convert itself into an iTunesish type online shop where one can get "12 downloads for the price of 1 with nothing more ever to buy."

Hmmmmm, that would be bizarre. Would they automatically download songs onto your computer if you didn't respond to your featured selection?

Perhaps something similar to what you mentioned. I'm thinking there could be account queues set up for a person's account that would include songs they want to download. Once they've purchased the song they would be able to download the item onto their PC or iPod. With the "Featured Selection" method BMG could just automatically download the song into the account holders music "holding pen."

:shrugs: It needs work, but that's kind of what I'm seeing.

I think yourmusic.com is BMG's attempt to update the concept. I've used it and like it ok, it's just not as cheap as regular BMG (except for some of the stranger box sets).

Hi, I have a question regarding the "members only" cds, hopefully someone can help me out. They do not allow these cds to be selected in the group of first 7 free selections, since I "am not yet a member". However, my question is, do they allow me to select these titles as my free titles after I purchase my 1 required cd? Thanks for any and all help.

Yes. In fact, you could include it in your fulfillment order if you would rather have it sooner than later.

^ That is not 100% correct. While a premium title can be a fulfillment title if it meets the minimum price point it can not be taken as a "free" title. Here is the "fine print" on a premium title. I added the bold:

"This special promotion is not part of your current offer and is for credit card purchase only. Premium Title CDs are specially priced and are not available as a bonus or free selection, or free with Music Points. A shipping and handling charge, plus applicable taxes, will be added to each CD."

That's true. If a "Member's Only" title has the Sales Exempt icon next to it (it is SE in a circle), refer to BobO'Link's post. If it has less than three discs and no SE icon, refer to my post.

Much thanks to the good Doctor X, whose free CD codes helped me finally checkout those 32 CDs, which had been sitting in my cart since October. He should be bestowed the title of Ultimate Member.

I recently received another one of his codes from BMG via e-mail:

To get the Buy 1 at 1/2 Price, Get $2.99 CDs offer, enter the promotion code "J8X6" in the box on the left side of our website's homepage and click "apply." But hurry! Promo code is only good until 2/5/08!

I don’t know if anyone else has noticed but, this innocent looking code has a hidden side. It doubles as a Buy as many boxed sets as you want for 50% off their regular sale price plus shipping. I know that the shipping cost on a boxed set normally kills the deal, but consider the following examples:

The Doors - The Complete Studio Recordings (Remastered) - 7 CD Set
Price w/code: $33.99 + Shipping: $14.73 = Total: $48.72 (Normal sale price: $67.99)

Led Zeppelin - The Complete Studio Recordings - 10 CD Set
Price w/code: $26.00 + Shipping: $20.70 = Total: $46.70 (Normal sale price: $51.99)

ZZ Top - Chrome, Smoke & BBQ - The ZZ Top Box - 4 CD Set
Price w/code: $18.00 + Shipping: $8.76 = Total: $26.76 (Normal sale price: $35.99)

Hope this helps those who have been eyeballing those boxed sets. Peace...

Handy shipping chart

3 CDs $6.77, 4 CDs $8.76, 5 CDs $10.75, 6 CDs $12.74, 7 CDs $14.73, 8 CDs $16.72, 9 CDs $18.71,
10 CDs $20.70, 11 CDs $22.69, 12 CDs $24.68, 13 CDs $26.67, 14 CDs $28.66, 15 CDs $30.65, 16 CDs $32.64

Someone shoot me now. Between the last BMG and CH.com deals I've spent around $450.

I leave this one in my cart in the vain hope of seeing it discounted under *any* code someday. So far, not as much as 1¢...

excellent call out. Thank you!!

Also, a SWEET price on this box set, using the code you mentioned:

Ray Charles
Pure Genius: The Complete Atlantic Recordings (1952-1959) (7 CD/1 DVD)
8 CD

$30.00 + shipping = $46.72

Cheapest I see this set online, brand new is ~$89.00 plus shipping and tax.

Hi, thanks for the replies BobO'Link and SFranke. I have another question. I join and purchased my cd, but I noticed that they say to enter a promotional code "J1W5" when ordering the fulfillment cd. Is this necessary, because I didn't do so. I don't want them to not acknowlegde my purchase. Thanks.

A promotion code is not necessary, just recommended. Did you use a promotion code at all on your order?

I'm sorry Sweet Baby James and eglenn, I did notice that about Johnny Cash "Unearthed" before posting and should have mentioned it. I checked all the other boxed sets and found that the issue is with the ones listed as Sales Exempt. I guess they really mean it. I hope that you two can find other boxed sets to enjoy for now.

I'm glad to hear that others have been able to take advantage of the code "J8X6".

Peace...

The only other code that I have seen work is the free shipping on 5 or more cd's, which is good if buying a set with more than 5, or a couple that add up to more than 5. Not as good of a deal as this one, but would save a few bucks.

How long does it take for them to ship stuff on back order I ordered some Kasey Chamber's cd's and they told me a few days ago they have none in stock is this something that could possibly take a month or longer?
