People have posted here before that they find good EW subscription rates on eBay. I haven't bothered too much because I'm happy with the student rate they offer me. You might want to call CS and inquire about that.

I just decided to go through them directly after the ebay person I went through failed to deliver (after 3 months they finally refunded my money).
My previous subscription I had through them directly and I had an awesome deal (something like $20 for the year) -- when it came to renew they didn't offer anything great. Anyway, when I renewed, I decided to do the 3 payment plan.

oh well, I just renewed 2 weeks ago for the $54.95. They used to send me renewal notices well ahead of time, haven't gotten one in about three years. I always renew a year at a time. The first time they didn't tell me it was running out, I missed receiving three issues while they re-activated my account.

trust me...if you went up to an employee at the front lanes and asked to sign up for Entertainment Weekly without purchasing anything, they'll gladly do it.
If they don't...they're morons.
But you do have to have a credit card.
