People have posted here before that they find good EW subscription rates on eBay. I haven't bothered too much because I'm happy with the student rate they offer me. You might want to call CS and inquire about that.

There were EW deals on eBay a year or so ago, but now most go for around $20 (which is the standard deal I get anyway).

The renewal link under my account at ew.com is showing $54/year. I think I'll be going the eBay route this year.

Although I was a student at the time, I don't recall them asking. Of course I renew online every year at the same rate and I know they don't ask then. It wouldn't hurt to call though.

Do you have to buy something for this deal?

I just decided to go through them directly after the ebay person I went through failed to deliver (after 3 months they finally refunded my money).

My previous subscription I had through them directly and I had an awesome deal (something like $20 for the year) -- when it came to renew they didn't offer anything great. Anyway, when I renewed, I decided to do the 3 payment plan.

Yes, you have to buy something with a credit card. Then they go through their spiel.

oh well, I just renewed 2 weeks ago for the $54.95. They used to send me renewal notices well ahead of time, haven't gotten one in about three years. I always renew a year at a time. The first time they didn't tell me it was running out, I missed receiving three issues while they re-activated my account.

EW is available again for milepoints if you have frequent flyer miles available for several airlines.

You don't have to buy anything....

trust me...if you went up to an employee at the front lanes and asked to sign up for Entertainment Weekly without purchasing anything, they'll gladly do it.

If they don't...they're morons.

But you do have to have a credit card.

I'm feeling pretty blind at the moment but I no longer see the free magazine thread. Anyone see where it went?

Hmm... I'm pretty sure it does. Usually I procrastinate and wait until the last minute to re-subscribe, but I think at least once they just added the new issues to my previous account....
