I'd check out if you can get the one I got for under $1500. I know I got my PC Richards to price match and ended up getting it for about $1300. 51" Toshiba.

$1295 + $149 shipping.

There's also a 46" model (the one I have) for a couple hundred bucks cheaper.

The Toshiba RPTV is a great set -- I'd definitely recommend (assuming you don't have any issues with the size/bulk of the unit).

Just a thought, but if you haven't really zeroed in on something and are looking for reviews/advice other than price, you may want to close this up and go to the Hardware forum. Probably more folks will be able to help you there.

Just recently bought an LG 42 inch plasma HD TV from BestBuysPCS from salesman Josh for under $2500.00 delivered, saving about a thousand bucks over local brick and mortar shops. The transaction was a pleasure. TV came delivered perfectly in under a week, and in superb condition. Could not have been happier. Most reviews of this company have been excellent. Whatever TV you decide to get, check the price from this company last.

There's a discussion over at fatwallet right now on this 42" HD plasma for $1400 at PCConnection. I can't vouch for the quality of the TV or the company.

I love my 50' Toshiba 50H82 - though it doesn't have a built-in HD tuner.

Saw this a little lower on that product page:

Special Offer: Purchase any 42-inch or larger Toshiba HDTV between May 24 and June 6 2005 and receive by email a gift certificate redeemable for $100 toward a future Amazon.com purchase.

Keep in mind that, as far as I know, Sears matches internet prices. They should match that Amazon price for the Toshiba, although I think they add the shipping cost as well, but it would still come out to be a pretty good deal. I have last years model (51h83) and I love it.

any responses appreciated. Thanks!
You did say any so I will chime in, stop wasting time with small TVs, get a projector. In your price range you can easily get a 90"-120" screen, depending on a few things. Like distance from viewer to screen, projector technology, and etc. And remember, a 100 inch screen is four times the size of a 50 inch screen.

I believe the Infocus 4805 and the Optoma H31 are highly regarded in the sub-$3500 range over at the avsforum. The MSRP of the 4805 dropped to $999 AR. I've been doing lots of research on PJs over at avs, and I plan to order the 4805 sometime this week either from AVS or TVauthority, depending on who gives me a better deal.

one thing you need to keep in mind with a projector is light from the outside... you may not have great results in the middle of the day if your shades do not block out the light

and you may want to check on the price of a replacement bulb
