Help Tracking Down iPod Deal
Hey, everyone. I have been considering buying an iPod for my brother, but didn't know where to look or what to expect in terms of prices. Anyone have an idea as to a place I could get one for a decent deal?
Thanks in advance and Happy New Year,

The HP models get discounted more than the straight Apples.
Buy.com usually has a good prices. Compgeeks recently had a good deal, I got my 4G 40g from computers4sure for around $350 shipped.

I heard the mini will be $199, the 40GB 299. I would guess the 20GB would be around 249.99. They are introducing the Ipod flash which is supposed to be $99.

I heard it from someone who knows someone who works for Apple. I cannot say if it is 100% legit or not but I've seen similar rumors around the net so it does seem a little more likely. We'll know in a week either way!

Not that I'm doubting your info potnoodlez (Hi btw!) but I have fond recollections of sitting in front of my PC at that time of year 2004 waiting for the rumoured $99 Ipod and we got a slightly smaller ipod with a fraction of the capacity of the regular one for $50 less. Then they promptly (i.e. same speech) announced they were increasing the storage on the entry level model.
Here's the thread where we all sat with bated breath: http://www.dvdtalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=332294
It's kind of funny to read for two reasons
1) People predicting no one would buy the Ipod mini and it would be a flop
2) Best Typo EVAR by Aphex Twin on page 1

Hi tanners! Yeah, I would take this info with a grain of salt, but it certainly doesn't hurt waiting a week to find out. The flash iPod seems to be legit because I've read various articles about it, but the $99 price is not as certain. http://cbs.marketwatch.com/news/stor...=mktw&dist=nbs That article mentions the price to be set in the $99-$149 range.
The iPhone ( not official name - a phone they are in development with Motorla) could be announced there too.
I think the price drops are probably the least certain, but I've heard so much about them that I'm hopeful.
Either way it doesn't matter too much to be since I'm getting my iPod from I-Deal.
I got a good chuckle at that typo, too.

Another thing to consider is looking at HD players other than iPods if you want to save money.
I have a Dell DJ and love it. It was cheaper, it sounds great, and I like the design better (iPod is too feminine for my tastes). The iPod has more features and a better interface, but that's not worth the extra money to me.
There was a Creative 30GB player at buy.com for $179 a while back as well, but I'm not sure of the quality of that player.

I checked out that site ( http://www.thinksecret.com/ )that is being sued. They are saying the iPod flash 1GB will sell for $149 and the 2GB will sell for $199. The mini will be bumped up to 5GB instead of 4. They are being sued for announcing the displayless iMac that should sell for around $499 to attract Windows iPod users.

Check out the Apple site itself. They often have sales, free shipping and free engraving.
I bought my son's mini before Christmas and I paid just $10.00 more to my door then the cheapest place I could find and they engraved it for free. Which I thought was well worth the $10.00 as the engraving looks cool and adds some security to it.

Bump. Today's the 10th - just wondered if there was any more news on an ipod price drop. I checked the Apple site, and there's nothing about it. I'm really wanting to order one, but I can definitely wait to order if the drop is going to happen.

No, nothing announced yet. Think Secret doesn't think they will announce price cuts. The Flash iPod is supposed to be unveiled tomorrow from what I hear so if they happen maybe they will be announced then.
NewEgg has a 40GB HP iPod for $369 but its a one day only sale. http://www.newegg.com/app/viewproduc...101-502&DEPA=0

Personally, I'd hold off and buy one of the new iRiver players, such as the H10 (5gb, shipping in like 3 weeks) or go for an H320 (20gb, FM Radio, Voice Recorder, Color Screen, Can play divx video, slideshows, etc.) that Best Buy inexplicably has on clearence for $214 (YMMV, some are reporting $235, some $266, it's still $320 on their website, but in store it's CHEAP). The iRiver players have longer battery life, more features, fantastic windows compatibility, and can be used as portable storage drives too. Plus, they sound better, in addition to supporting a wider variety of formats (WMA, OGG, FLAC, MP3...).
Or consider a Creative Zen Micro...I researched all of this for like a month because I knew I was getting a $500 premier acheivement award from work for a project that I NAILED, and I knew I wanted a player...I almost bought a 4th Gen iPod, but wanted an iRiver for the quality and features over the Apple status symbol, and I couldn't be happier with my choice - plus, I got it for $215+$40 for a complete replacement warranty, which was still $65 less than a similar storage-sized but less featured iPod without a warranty.

The new Dell DJs aren't even a deal anymore. If you are a student you can get an iPod for a 10% discount from apple.com or an Apple Store.
I doubt we will see a price drop on iPods tomorrow, they are still selling like crazy so there is no need to lower the price.

Do any of these deals include the " U2 iPOD " ? I really want that one, I like the black and red colors and the fact that it comes with every U2 song ever recorded, preloaded.
