I felt the same way but then I saw they were made in China so I passed. Whenever possible I keep my discretionary spending away from Chinese goods. I don't know if where they are manufactured matters to you but I thought I'd save you a trip if it did.

Thanks.. That's close to what I ended up going with. I wanted to keep the colors as close to the casinos as possible and went with the following:

(50% - 200) Red ($5)
(37.5% - 150) Green ($25)
(12.5% - 50) Black ($100)

This allows me to have up to 8 players with a $1,000 buyin. Hopefully this will work well. The only problem I forsee is when having to split the pot. We will have to do it down to the closest $5 since I won't have any smaller chips.

I picked the set from Ebay for $27 plus shipping. There are quite a few sets still available from various sellers and the auctions seem to end almost every few 15 minutes.

Sheesh, if you have a $1000 buy-in, why didn't you just get GOOD, REAL chips. Like the James Bond ones or something similiar. I mean, it seems like you have the money to spend....get the real deal.

I wish I had that kind of scratch to spend.... I was referring to the chip total being $1,000 for each player. The actual buyin would be anywhere from $10 - $40. Sorry about the confusion.

On a related note, I went in to Bed Bath and Beyond to get the folding poker table top, but they were sold-out. I placed an order using 20% off and was told it would take about 6 weeks to arrive.

Here's a follow-up question since this thread just won't die

Poker table covers ... I have absolutely NO idea about these. Any recommendations on brands or things in general to look for?

I'm not sure what you are talking about here. Are you thinking of making your own table and wondered about what type of felt to use to cover the table or are you looking at a sheet of some sort to cover the table when not in use like a pool table cover?

Gang, I'm confused. $100 for a set of 500 11.5g poker chips seems to be a good price, but the link at the very top of this thread is to an outfit offering them in the $40 range. If $100 is a good price, why isn't $40 a great price?

That't the link I posted. It is a great price. Snipers will shoot it up to around $60 just before the aucion ends.

I think the original poster wanted them right away and couldn't wait to see if he won an auction or not. I don't need them right away so have been bidding on them at a price I think I should be able to win them at sooner or later. A friend of mine picked up a set similar to these and paid $80 for them. I am not sure which website he got them at though.

I asked this over in the "One and only Vegas thread", but it looks like it got buried. Lucky me, I just so happened to come across this thread today.

Anyways, does anyone in here know of a good place to buy the 11.5 gram composite chips while in Vegas? I'll be up there this weekend and I was interested in picking some up for a father's day gift. I figured while I was there, I mind as well take a look if anyone had any suggestions.

I assume that most places on the strip/in the casinos wouldn't be worth it, but maybe there are some stores around Vegas worth checking out? If not, Ebay seems to be a very accessible alternative.

Got mine from that link for $52 + s/h ($18). I will post about the quality when I get them. Thanks to whomever provided the link.

OK, now you've done it. Suddenly I feel the need for a full set of poker chips, as well as a poker tabletop, even though I haven't hosted a game in years!

Might just try the freebies for the $100 buy-in thingie...

I would highly recommend Spinetti's as that is where I got my set of chips from. I was able to get 500 Paulson H&C chips (20th Century - look for an earlier posting from me or here) for $200 which was a very good price for casino quality chips. They are solid clay vs. the metal insert ones you see floating around eBay. If they don't have what you want they can tell you where it is for the price your willing to sell.

Although I haven't been able to personally go to the Vegas warehouse Chip sales, you might want to find out when the next one is (possibly when your there) and get a really good deal on a quantity of chips.

Speaking of Poker chips. I am looking for a regular game. Local to NJ. 5-10 games, no wilds, poker.

Anyone have a regular game looking for an additional player?

Incredible timing. I just got one as well. I did an esnipe bid group and ended up at $40 plus shipping. I think I had set the max to around $50 on a few. Now to choose the color breakdown.

Oh, and time to find a good table.

The chips being discussed in this thread are not 100% clay poker chips, they are composite (heaver than the avg clay chip 11.5g vs 10g) and have a 'klanky' metal feel to them.

If you are looking for 100% clay (casino style) poker chips, I recommend:

http://www.buypokerchips.com/
http://www.pokerchips.com/
http://www.kardwell.com

(these chips do not come cheap)

I find it amusing when some places try to sell chips for more than a $1 each. I mean you can go to a CASINO and just give them $300 for 300 chips.....the one place had a 300 chip set for $359.

That's all well and good if you want 300 chips of one denomination ($1). Who plays poker with only 1 denomination of chip?
