Steampunk was a thing long before Brotherhood of the Wolf.

Yes, but I don't remember it being an almost cliche until MySpace became a thing and everything became steampunk. I want to say maybe a year or two after this film came out. Shit, City of Lost Children is steampunk and that's from the mid-90's. I know it existed, but wasn't as popular as it became later on. At one point, steampunk was heavily played out.

Re: Brotherhood of the Wolf

In fact, I had never gone back to the film and that's also why, in large part, the film never had HD versions.
It had an HD release on D-VHS.

In the very next sentence he went on to clarify
That is to say that when the film was released on Blu Ray, it was simply a blow-up (quite mediocre by the way) of the SD version.
I assume the same holds true for the D-VHS transfer.

Re: Brotherhood of the Wolf

I saw that sentence hence my comment. The D-Theater (D-VHS) release was 1080 but sadly only included the English dub. I have a copy. The PQ is much better than event he Studio Canal 2 disc DVD, which I also own. Maybe he wasn't involved in the D-VHS release, it was highly niched product.

Re: Brotherhood of the Wolf

Yeah, should be the direct port. 3-disc set, as well.

Other forums are reporting it. There was also a nice German edition set announced, as well.

Re: Brotherhood of the Wolf

Well it'll probably be made official this week on all Shout Factory social media accounts. I'll wait on reviews before purchasing.

Re: Brotherhood of the Wolf

Shout's listing is up as well, with some bonus features listed (presumably the old ones?) and others in progress:

Re: Brotherhood of the Wolf

I'm such a whore for this movie that if SHOUT! ports over the same A/V presentation as the current French release I just purchased, I'll get it for the subtitles alone.

Re: Brotherhood of the Wolf

Gotta admit, I've held on to the ancient Canadian 3-disc set for ages waiting for a decent replacement, so it seems like this might finally be it. I'm not 4K and may never be, but at least the Blu-ray in this pack looks like it will share the same transfer. Time to list the old one at last. Also glad they're using the original art for the case.

I still have that Canadian DVD set as well. In addition to being standard-def, the picture was also pretty poorly compressed. It has lots of room for improvement.

One thing worrying me, though, is that the DVD's DTS track was famous for its powerhouse bass. Any new remix is virtually guaranteed to dial that way back.

Edit: Whoops, looks like I already said that a few months ago earlier in the thread.

Re: Brotherhood of the Wolf

Hopefully the ATMOS is a powerhouse. I don't see the sound getting muted on this release.

I have the 3-disc Canadian TVA Films dvd also. LOVE the audio on this, so much so that I held onto this set after I picked up the Region B Studio Canal blu-ray. For that reason, and for the 2 bonus discs as well, that 3-disc set isn't going anywhere.

If it's like the audio on the StudioCanal release, you're in for a treat.

Re: Brotherhood of the Wolf

I have the Japanese version I bought a long time ago. But a true 4K (with English Subs) would be nice.

I’m sorry. I know this was mentioned but what’s wrong with the Shout factory Blu-ray? Is this upcoming combo different master?

The Shout Blu-ray used a very old/dated video master.

And this is new remaster? So keep Shout for extras and 4K/Blu for picture and sound?

Yes, it's a new remaster and will have ATMOS.
