Not surprised at all. Sounds like a good racket once you get in on it.

Re: The Official 88 Films Blu-ray Thread

Didn't see this mentioned earlier. 88 has Wong Jing's THE LAST BLOOD (1991) scheduled for July 25th. This is a solid show that I suspect a lot of folks may not be familiar with, despite it long carrying the inane co-title HARD BOILED 2 while having nothing whatsoever to do with that film, and actually coming out before it. That retitling took place in the UK, by the reputed super-fans at Eastern Heroes, trying to impose their little 'stamp' on the movies they championed with their tapes (a habit continued by the infamous Bey Logan via Made In Hong Kong and Dragon Dynasty). The Germans were just as bad, calling it HARD BOILED 3. Interestingly enough, the original US release title – I don't recall a home video release, though -- was 12 HOURS OF TERROR, which is virtually the same as the actual Chinese title. I really wish 88 Films had left that 'HB 2' off the artwork and just let the movie stand on its own, as it has on all of its HK physical media releases down through the ages. But whatever . . . just happy to have it on Blu.

Specs:
  • High Definition (1080p) Blu-ray™ presentation in 1.85:1 Aspect Ratio
  • Lossless 2.0 Cantonese Mono
  • Newly Translated English Subtitles
  • Audio Commentary by Hong Kong Film Expert Frank Djeng
  • Theatrical Trailer
Not much in the way of extras, which doesn't surprise me, but I'm relieved that there's only one commentary this time. That's all a lot of these films really need.

Re: The Official 88 Films Blu-ray Thread

I just put in my order for the 88 films Supercop 4K release. A little expensive at $29.99, but I’ll suck it up to support the physical media release. I only have Supercop on DVD from Dragon Dynasty, so this is an upgrade for me.

Cool! Now, if they could just tell us what "... and more!" means on the bonus features for ROYAL WARRIORS and ITLOD3!

My Supercop 4K has yet to arrive and it appears to be delayed at Amazon.

Looks like they are backordered at the moment.

Got mine already.

It's still in stock online at Target and Walmart if you don't want to wait.

My Supercop copy came today, It's a pretty heavy case. There is the movie, a book and a folded poster in the package.

A little more expensive than Amazon, but Grindhouse is already shipping out the ITLOD set.

Re: The Official 88 Films Blu-ray Thread

I went through the Supercop discs over the weekend. The majority of the extras are on the BD. They are actually all legacy extras ported over from the Dragon Dynasty DVD that were produced in 2009. Minus the Bey Logan commentary track obviously.

Re: The Official 88 Films Blu-ray Thread

Good to know. Logan aside there was some good stuff on the DD release. Glad I picked up Eureka’s UK edition of this as well, though, as it has some worthwhile new supplements on it, as well as some older ones not on the US release. Mind you, I’d prefer one edition with everything, but what can ya do.

88's edition was supposed to have new supplements, but they were cancelled because you know who was involved.

By the way, I ordered my copy on Amazon on April 25th when it was marked as shipping in 3-5 weeks. It was delivered yesterday.

That's a shame. But how often was I gonna go through all the extras anyway?

One hopes that they learned from that experience that there are other people out there who can produce supplements and gain access to the talent behind these films.

Re: The Official 88 Films Blu-ray Thread

Sigh. I suppose it’s good that they didn’t call it “The Long Arm of the Law Collection” on the packaging — as opposed to in the text description beside the images — as that would literally be a half-truth. Another incomplete set. Granted, the first two are essential, but the third and (especially) the fourth would easily warrant inclusion here as I doubt they’ll get released separately in a second set. I do wonder if the terminal “situation” in Hong Kong means the fourth entry is now off limits (better covet your old discs!). Parts 1-3 have had Blu releases in HK (with 1 and 2 subjected to the infamous Kam & Ronson phoney 5.1 and 6.1 remixes), but Part 4 (UNDERGROUND EXPRESS) — with its roots in the Tiananmen Square massacre — has long been a little more scarce. Unless 88 have hidden it in this set? 😄

Re: The Official 88 Films Blu-ray Thread

Apparently they're waiting on Michael Mann for their upcoming release of Miami Vice. I wonder if he's gonna make a new cut. If so, I hope it hews closer to the theatrical cut, ditching the opening boat race (and maybe also ditch that Nonpoint cover of In The Air Tonight in exchange for the Phil Collins original).
