Re: The Official Vinegar Syndrome Thread

I ordered 4 partner titles from yesterday's drop:

Breaking the Girls
Fright Night Documentary
Redlands - limited edition with the signed and numbered zine
Revealer

I'll probably go back in next week and order Babylon Pink and the triple feature BD set from Melusine.

I'm waiting to see if they have the warehouse sale on labor day weekend before making my next VS website purchase. For August releases id like to get the AGFA Drug O Rama party release and the latest peekarama triple feature (Prisoners of Paradise, Sadie, and The Seductress).

I’ve also got the DRUG-O-RAMA disc in my cart, plus the Distribpix FAT BLACK PUSSYCAT / PSYCHO CAT and SATAN’S BED / SCARE THEIR PANTS OFF two-fers at Melusine. I have bits of both of these on old Something Weird DVDs. I kinda wish the Distribpix titles would be on the VS site instead, as I often forget to look at new releases from Melusine site because I don’t bother (much) with the old porn. I do appreciate that the Distribpix titles are still pretty racy softcore for their times, and make more sense at Melusine, but part of me misses the days when those were VS releases. Oh well.

I also have a few ‘new-ish’ holdovers from the last while waiting in the cart, and I check the quantities regularly (glad to see DRUG-O-RAMA isn’t selling out as fast as other AGFA titles . . . for now, anyway), but I should likewise be able to hold off until the labor day or BF sales, and/or into 2026 for some of them if necessary.

By the way, for anyone who missed the IRON ANGELS Hong Kong trilogy boxed set, its fast sellout apparently convinced them to issue a standard edition after all. Seems to be 2000 copies, already down to 1800, but I’d imagine they can at least reprint this set as needed:

It would seem that one of the titles in next month’s Italian horror collection is The Bloodstained Lawn.

New for September:
  • The Films of Larry Fessenden, Vol. 2: Wendigo / The Last Winter
  • Bloodstained Italy: Obscene Desire / The Bloodstained Lawn / Death Falls Lightly
  • The Resurrected (UHD)
...and from the sublabels:
  • The Strange Affair (VSL)
  • Vice Academy 1-6 (VSA)
  • Gang Related (Cinématographe)
  • The Films of Hisayasu Satō: Volume #1 - Re-Wind / Lustmord / Love Letter In the Sand (Pink Line)
Nothing's super-grabbing me this month, although I might pick up Bloodstained Italy in a sale down the road.

On the partner label tip, I can see Brian T being excited about AGFA's The Black Panther of Shaolin + The Black Six double feature.

 You are correct sir!

BPOS (< oof - that looks weird) is super rare and I’ve never seen it, even in what I assume are bootlegs/uploads they reference in the description. Zero reviews on IMDb. I don’t expect a whole lot from it as Filipino martial arts movies in my experience are pretty clunky compared to their HK counterparts. Still, great that they found it. I’ve had BLACK SIX in various black-themed PD ‘collections’ over the years. It’s passable, barely (and on Tubi for free, if anyone’s curious). What’s really got me itching to grab it is that second disc with the Something Weird trailer compilations. I have one of the old VHS tapes here that I picked up with a handful of other SW junk when a hipster video store closed down here years back. SW always found a lot of rare goodies on all their trailer and short film comps.

And whenever AGFA / VS includes stuff like that on their release, the value-for-money shoots up substantially. As the details show, there’s almost eight hours of vintage content on this. The slip version’s nearly half gone, so decisions, decisions . . . :)

Re: The Official Vinegar Syndrome Thread

For fellow Canadians, and maybe our southern neighbours (since they had a similar system to the one at the heart of this film), I’d also recommend COLD JOURNEY, perhaps on sale down the road. I saw it years ago on the National Film Board’s site, where it still resides for free, as do most of the director’s shorts on the Canadian International Pictures Blu-ray (not sure if these are accessible to Americans but could be worth a try).

Whenever a certain overseas authoritarian country responds to Canadian criticism of its long history of complete denial about its decades of human rights abuses, that country often responds by pointing out the shameful human rights abuses of Canada’s residential school system. I roll my eyes every time because there’s one massive difference: Canada doesn’t deny this happened. It’s taught in schools. It’s in our history books. Our government set up a Truth & Reconciliation Commission to encourage public discourse and restitution, and named September 30 as a national day of commemoration (presumably why the Blu-ray is a September release). It destroyed lives and families because of colonialist hubris, and the effects are ongoing. It’s freely reported by our press, even today (as ground scans around the school sites have revealed the graves of children who were very likely abused). It’s also been the subject of documentaries and films, including the excellent COLD JOURNEY fifty years ago. As a country we should never be allowed to live it down. Think we’ll ever see truthful domestic documentaries and narrative films about, say, Xinjiang or the cultural revolution from the country wherein they’ve taken place? Fat chance.

Not entirely sold on the new slip/sleeve art, but it is by a Canadian indigenous artist, so they got that right.

October:

https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/dvdtalk...eb60889b1.jpeg

Definitely in for Sleepless; maybe Tromeo and Juliet (which I loved once upon a time but haven’t watched in decades). I feel an itch to grab Ruby and The Man Who Could Cheat Death, but neither is really compelling to me to click ‘add to cart’ right now. I’m into Shaw-sploitation as a concept but would rather see the SB logo on the cover instead.

I’ll probably hold off until the Halfway thing next month before ordering anything, though.

Supernatural possession and murder-by-soda machine; mystery killers and Max Von Sydow; deformed ghouls in Victorian era Paris; mutant cows and genitals in homage of Shakespeare…It can only be October at Vinegar Syndrome!
What a lineup we have this month! But before we get into the goodies, a brief reminder that our similarly sensational September slate, featuring the 4K UHD debut of THE RESURRECTED (1991) with hours of extras, our second Larry Fessenden double feature of WENDIGO (2001) + THE LAST WINTER (2006) on 4K UHD, and latest Italian horror box set, aptly named BLOODSTAINED ITALY, featuring English friendly home video debuts of OBSCENE DESIRE (1978), DEATH FALLS LIGHTLY (1972), and THE BLOODSTAINED LAWN (1973) are all in stock and shipping, along with our September Cinématographe of GANG RELATED (1996) latest VS Labs of the British rarity THE STRANGE AFFAIR (1968), plus the return of VICE ACADEMY, this time with all six films from the scandalous franchise, from VS Archive!

Now on to October…
Starting off this staggering lineup is our first foray into Britain’s legendary Hammer Films, with the 4K UHD premiere of Terence Fisher’s fiendish favorite, THE MAN WHO COULD CHEAT DEATH (1959), starring Christopher Lee. After long being the stuff of legend, we are proud to present both the pre-censor original version, including some violence trimmed before its theatrical release, as well as its even more scandalous and decades-unseen Continental Version, and all stunningly restored in 4K from its 35mm original camera negative and packed with bonus materials.
https://d3k81ch9hvuctc.cloudfront.ne...5520fefa6.jpeg

From the master of Italian horror, Dario Argento, his late-period giallo, SLEEPLESS (2002) comes to 4K UHD, in a brand-new and exclusive restoration of its original camera negative! Starring the Academy Award-winning thespian Max Von Sydow on the trail of a decades-long series of grisly murders, Argento is in top form with all the over-the-top kills, eye-popping style, and ridiculous twists you could want. We’ve gone as far as possible with the extras, including loads of both new and archival interviews, to ensure that everything you ever wanted to know about this twisted treat is fully revealed.
https://d3k81ch9hvuctc.cloudfront.ne...4d868dca4.jpeg

Speaking of twisted, director Lloyd Kaufman and co-writer James Gunn's (yes, that James Gunn) first Shakespeare adaptation, TROMEO & JULIET (1996) finally makes the leap to 4K UHD from a stunning new restoration of its original negative, and is presented in its proper theatrical aspect ratio! Packed with heart, love, and gratuitous splatter-kills, this is a love story for the ages done in the Troma tradition. Not only does the film look better than ever before, but we’ve heaped on hours worth of new and archival interviews and other assorted bonus mayhem, including extensive BTS and promotional materials, multiple commentaries, and much more.
https://d3k81ch9hvuctc.cloudfront.ne...a14b8e63c.jpeg

Finally, from a true maverick of the early arthouse-horror world, director Curtis Harrington’s bloody and beautiful homage to mid century America, RUBY (1977) finally comes to 4K UHD, stunningly restored from its interpositive and complete with a vast array of archival materials featuring Harrington as well as a fresh set of first-ever interviews, plus a presentation of its notorious and controversial alternate TV version. With its clever and original take on the “possession” film craze, this remains the goriest film of Harrington’s career, featuring an array of surprisingly nasty deaths, alongside a ghoulishly romantic performance from the great Piper Laurie.
https://d3k81ch9hvuctc.cloudfront.ne...e2db4f49c.jpeg

But that’s not all! This month, we’re delighted to debut a new series from VSA: Shaw-Sploitation, which will feature rare and wild action and thriller features from Hong Kong’s unrivaled purveyors of some of the wildest Asian genre cinema ever produced: the Shaw Brothers! Kicking off the line is our gorgeous new restoration of director Ngai Choi Lam's (Riki-Oh: The Story of Ricky) gritty and violent cop thriller MEN FROM THE GUTTER (1983), which offers nearly non-stop action, jaw-dropping stunt work, and bloody shootouts. Stay tuned for much more Shaw-Sploitation to come!
https://d3k81ch9hvuctc.cloudfront.ne...c66dcd474.jpeg

And from Cinématographe, we present the world 4K UHD debut of another kind of gritty crime drama with director Frank Pierce’s KING OF THE GYPSIES (1978), featuring a star-making performance from Eric Roberts along with supporting roles for Susan Sarandon, Sterling Hayden, Judd Hirsch, Shelly Winters, and Brooke Shields. We’ve newly and exclusively restored it from its original negative and have packaged it in our custom limited Cinématographe media book.
https://d3k81ch9hvuctc.cloudfront.ne...33d36244e.jpeg

But that’s still not all! Our sister-site, Mélusine, has a whopping three releases of its own, encompassing the disc (and 100% uncut) debut of an early feature by Wes Craven, the Blu-ray debut of the first two films directed by Bill Lustig, and the Blu-ray debut of a late 70s blockbuster secretly directed by Joe Sarno. Head on over to the Mélusine website to find out everything you could ever want to know about this tantalizing trio of releases.
Plus, in case you missed the news, we are immensely proud to announce the acquisition of the legendary Mitchell Bros Film Group catalog, including everything from their most famous to most obscure works. Much more info to come…

Fans of Begos’ earlier films like VFW and Bliss won’t want to mix this neon-drenched bad-acid-trip-on-steroids, alien-paranoia brain melter, which comes to 4K UHD + Blu-ray, complete with 3 commentaries, a 2+ hour making-of, and so much more.
Also new this month, Japanese horror master Kiyoshi Kurosawa’s CREEPY comes to Blu from Kimstim, Shudder offers a double dose of terror with ALL THE MOONS and MOLOCH, IFC brings Peter Strickland’s chilling BERBERIAN SOUND STUDIO to Blu, while AGFA offers a set of regional ripped-from-the-headlines thrillers with TRUE CRIME TRIPLE RIPPER! Re: The Official Vinegar Syndrome Thread

Nothing that can’t wait in my case. A while back I came across my Kino Blu-ray of MAN WHO COULD CHEAT DEATH (itself replacing the earlier Legend films double feature Blu with THE SKULL) and thought it would make a decent title for Hammer’s deluxe line of packed box sets, perhaps as one of the smaller boxes, especially if the cut footage was ever found, which apparently it now has been. Very tempted to wait and see if Hammer does anything with that one down the road.

Mixed feelings on MEN FROM THE GUTTER. It’s a damned good picture – in a Shaw genre that has never gotten much attention in North America thanks to the endless reissuing of their martial arts films – but as someone who’s been (yes, tiresomely  ) vocal about the non-MA films being overlooked for so long, it would’ve been cool to see that one in a ‘Shaw Crime’ boxed set of some sort as there are quite a few others in their catalog that are just as good. I guess that’s a no-go now unless Arrow goes that route in a future Shawscope set (yeah, right!) or maybe a set like their recently-announced HK NEW WAVE triple feature. Or something from Eureka, as they’ve dabbled outside the martial arts segment a couple of times. There’s just so little need to string us along one title at a time with these. Oh well, I’ll get it on sale eventually as the extras look decent (original participants!) and it’s another old import IVL DVD I can unload.

- - - - - -

I posted this in the Blu-Ray bargains forum, but in case anyone didn’t see it, VS is offering their 4K combo of the Shaw Brothers film CORPSE MANIA is 50% off with 4x the bonus points today only (Oct. 1), presumably tied to that release of MEN FROM THE GUTTER. I already have it, but I also have this feeling that it was cheaper in a recent sale, but I’m not certain, and maybe the points would make up for that.

Unless they changed things up, I'd strongly urge everyone here to AVOID the "31 days of Syntober" items.

Because they're all one-offs. If you bought Corpse Mania yesterday, it's already getting shipped. Buy tomorrow's on-sale title and you can expect to pay for shipping again. No stacked orders. Any discounts on price will be negated by separate shipping costs.

That sucks and seems completely uncharacteristic of them, given they've always been pretty heavy on the "feel free to combine as many orders as you want" mindset.
How disappointing.

Was the note in the Syntober FAQ inaccurate? As dumb luck would have it, I already owned both of the titles featured so far, so I haven’t tested this myself.

#4. Am I able to order stack my 31 Days of Syntober orders?

Yes, but there will be a few different options available in regards to shipping your Syntober orders. They are as follows:

a.) If you pay for shipping on a Syntober order, your order will be shipped either same day or the following day.

b.) If you place any regular October preorders, you will be eligible for order stacking and able to add any Syntobner orders to that preorder. Note: This means any Syntober titles added to a preorder, either through order stacking or actually being part of a preorder, will not ship out until pre-orders begin to ship.

c.) There will be an additional free shipping option at checkout named "Hold until Halloween" which will give you the option to hold all Syntober orders until the end of the month. You'll never have to pay for shipping for any of your 31 Days of Syntober products that you order, and they will all ship out together on November 1st. Important Note: Only use this shipping option for orders containing products featured during the 31 Days of Syntober.

Subscribers: We will ship your October package + add on orders as usual around the 15th. Any orders placed after your package ships will be combined and shipped out once the promotion ends.

Paff 10-03-25 11:03 AM

Re: The Official Vinegar Syndrome Thread

Thanks Adam, it looks like they indeed changed their policy from last year, because I know for sure that that "Hold until Halloween" option wasn't available then.

I bought a title last year on sale, and while the price was good enough, they'd already shipped it by the time I considered placing another order. They probably got more than a few complaints on it, and added the new "hold" option, so good on them for identifying a problem and fixing it.

I was wondering the same thing. I wonder if it being a joint Paramount production with Hammer would make any difference in them releasing it or not, but I would rather go the big box route with Hammer. All of those have been magnificent presentations so far.

What are the chances of hearing something from them? I may email Hammer directly and ask because I am sure they would rather you buy their release.

Someone posted this on that other forum and looks like Hammer will be doing their own big box set.

Hammer: What Lies Ahead… And the Film that could Cheat Death! – Hammer Films

SR: Well, I can certainly tell you about the one that is currently under restoration at Silver Salt – thanks to our partners at Hollywood Classics and Paramount we’re currently restoring The Man Who Could Cheat Death (1959) in 4K for UHD/Blu-ray release in the UK.

HN: What?! When will that be out?

SR: We don’t have a firm date yet, but we are working towards early 2026.
I watched the movie last night. It was just okay. A bit of a snoozer to me.

I just noticed that the descriptor on todays "Syntober" sale was Devil Fetus/Her Vengeance, but the actual title on sale was Seventh Curse/Witch From Nepal. No biggie, as I want both. But because of the mixup, Devil Fetus is also on sale until noon tomorrow, so grab a copy if it's on your list. I did.

^ Thanks for the heads up. Sometimes after a few deals in a row don’t interest me, I start forgetting to check. Re: The Official Vinegar Syndrome Thread

Just watched Corpse Mania and really, REALLY enjoyed it. The blurbs compare it to a Giallo film, and that's very apt. It's totally a mystery film, trying to find the insane killer before he kills again. The cinematography is absolutely stunning. Special effects are a bit weak, but overall a fantastic movie I can see myself revisiting several times. No spoilers, but it even keeps in the Giallo tradition of the late film red herring fake-out, along with a crazy ending that you won't see coming. Highly highly recommended. Grab it if it goes on sale this month.

How's everyone's "Syntober" been going? I've been able to make a dent in my want list thus lowering my Black Friday expenditure.

Started out with:
Devil Fetus/Her Vengeance
The Seventh Curse/Witch from Nepal
both were a bit pricey, but I was always going to get them eventually and I can't see them coming down much more in price. They're not Last Gasp fer cryin' out loud.

added:
Sick of Myself
The Black Room
neither were on my radar, but I fell for the sales pitches on the site.

Black Eyed Susan
definitely one I was going to get on BF, I saw it on someone's top ten list so this was an easy buy

Mark of the Devil
probably screwed up on this, as even though I do like the movie, I already have the Arrow special edition. Chalk it up to VS fanboydom.

There's a couple more I'm hoping hit the sale list in the next week.

I've sat out the month long horror movie sale as there hasn't been anything of interest I want to buy.

My VS horror movie collection is small but I still hope to watch Dracula Sucks and Through the Looking Glass for the horror challenge.

Nothing beyond those two Hong Kong double features at the outset. I have little doubt, though, that both will be cheaper than their Syntober pricing down the road as there are still plenty of both in stock, with or without slips. And then I’ll kick myself for not waiting. It literally always happens, except for maybe those super-hot items that sell out fast (like RAD or the KEEP box), but those are rare.

And because I’ve loaded up in so many sales over the years, I’ve got most of the titles they’ve offered in Syntober so far (the ones of interest, anyway). I make sure to scour my old order confirmations to so I don’t double up, and in most cases I discover that some titles were cheaper previously. For example, yesterday’s title SHRIEK OF THE MUTILATED was in one of my orders from August 2023, with slip, for +/- $10-12 US. Another Syntober title that was similarly around $12 in a previous sale DEVONSVILLE TERROR. Maybe shouldn’t mention this but BLACK ROOM was around $12 back in February. I’m not sure if your other acquisitions have been in other sales yet, so those were likely solid deals for the time being. Plus you get all those bonus points, which add up fast.

I think my problem, though, is I simply have too much VS stuff already! -rolleyes- And now that they regularly have ‘60% off’ and ‘70% off’ (and more!) sections in nearly every sale, their half-off deals make me hesitate sometimes, especially if there are still lots of copies available. I’m so cheap, I know. Admittedly I almost always make exceptions for Hong Kong stuff because that’s a massive part of my lifelong collection, but even with those I end up cringing a bit when VS offers steeper discounts later on.

And I'll probably end up hating the movie anyway!

Yeah, I figure a lot of these movies are ones that were for sale at super discounts other times, or will be available at them later, that's why I've tried showing restraint. And I also noticed Shriek and Devonsville on the Syntober sale when I've gotten them cheaper at previous outings (both are great movies, BTW). I always breathe a sigh of relief when the Syntober sale of the day is one already in my collection.

Still some titles to be revealed later in the month, and the 20 partner label titles are dropping at noon, but as for the rest…

The ABSOLUTELY EVERYTHING PACKAGE is back! Secure your copy of every single November VS site release, including our latest VSU, all four November VS releases (including both Secret Releases), both November VSAs, both November Cinématographe's, plus the debut release from Reviver, all packaged together in one comprehensive bundle, and for a total savings of over $25 when compared to our regular Black Friday sale prices.

We hope you’ve already explored the listings for our latest VSU, which offers the 4K UHD debut of the late 80s gross-out classic, THE GARBAGE PAIL KIDS MOVIE (1987), newly and exclusively restored in 4K and presented in beautiful Dolby Vision, along with a generous selection of both new and archival extras, but that’s only an eleventh (!) of what this incredible package has to offer.

Also included is the 4K UHD debut of one of the wildest genre films from the first decade of the 21st century: director Nacho Vigalondo’s insane sci-fi-horror shocker, TIMECRIMES (2007), a multi-award-winning film presented in a brand-new, director-approved 4K restoration.

Plus, the first entry in a new box-set series celebrating the jaw dropping, beautiful, weird, squirm inducing, and like no-other horror filmography of the legendary Shaw Brothers Studio, with SHAW SCARES VOL. 1, which presents the Blu-ray debut of the twist-filled anthology, HAUNTED TALES (1980), the delightfully weird SEX BEYOND THE GRAVE (1984), and the absolutely diabolical and extraordinarily unsettling HELL HAS NO BOUNDARY (1982), all exclusively restored by VS from their original film negatives.

And that, still, isn’t even the half of it, as this package will also secure your copies of both VS Secret Releases, the identities of which will remain shrouded in mystery until the moment the Black Friday Sale goes live on November 28th. But we can guarantee that this set of surprises will offer the worldwide 4K UHD debuts of two twisted takes on terror from a set of directors who have both achieved legendary status for their distinctive takes on the genre, both from exclusive new restorations and in their most extensively extras-packed editions ever.

From Cinématographe, we have a delectable duo of surprises, with the 4K UHD debut of the grim and gripping 80s true crime thriller AT CLOSE RANGE, along with the Blu-ray debut of a genre-bending sleeper from an iconic American filmmaker.

And if you’re craving more action, our set of VSAs presents an early 80s Hong Kong extravaganza in its longest-ever home-video version, and an under-seen 80s thrill-ride that gets a new restoration and an extras-packed edition.

Meanwhile, our next VSL will offer mid-century monster thrills in its Blu-ray debut, also from a brand new restoration.

Finally, we present the debut release from Reviver, a new line curated and produced by Vinegar Syndrome Film Archive, focusing entirely on long-lost and never-on-video feature and short films from our massive film archive! REVIVER VOL. 1 offers a trio of long-lost shorts, along with a savage regional shocker unseen for close to half a century, which will remain a total mystery until you watch the disc itself!

This massive package includes 11 releases:
  • THE GARBAGE PAIL KIDS MOVIE (VSU) - UHD/BD
  • TIMECRIMES - UHD/BD
  • SHAW SCARES VOL 1. (HAUNTED TALES, SEX BEYOND THE GRAVE, HELL HAS NO BOUNDARY) - 3 BD BOX
  • AT CLOSE RANGE (Cinématographe) - UHD/BD
  • 2x Secret Surprise VS Horror UHD/BD
  • 2x Surprise VSA action films - Both BD releases
  • 1x Surprise Cinématographe - BD
  • 1x Surprise VSL - BD
  • 1x Reviver Vol 1 - BD

Nothing that’s a lock for me so far, although I’m thinking about the Shaw Scares set and Timecrimes.

The fucking Garbage Pail Kids Movie is the next VSU movie. A movie so bad i couldn't even finish it.

Whoa! Timecrimes! What a great movie. Probably my favorite time travel movie after 12 Monkeys, and one that acknowledges that any time travelers from the future will have always been there, if that makes any sense.

Also, one of maybe half a dozen films that I was allowed to thread into a 35mm projector and fire up (I was being trained on 35mm projection during a Latino Film Festival)

Re: The Official Vinegar Syndrome Thread

I was at the VS store here Friday afternoon after a long absence and got to yakking with the owner about HK and Shaw movies and the various releases (I traded in a bunch of lesser used stuff toward MEN FROM THE GUTTER and some other new-ish sets) and he inadvertently let it slip that the then-still only teased HK 3-pack of horror movies was a Shaw set, which was a nice surprise. Knowing that many of the better known ones were in Arrow’s SHAWSCOPE 4, I guessed at a bunch of eligible titles I thought might be fitting and he would only nod that I got SEX BEYOND THE GRAVE right because Imprint already released it (as far as I can recall, it was only ever on VCD from Hong Kong and cut to oblivion in the infamous Ziieagle Box player from Singapore). HELL HAS NO BOUNDARY was also in my guesses, but he could only say I was in the ballpark with one from my remaining list. HAUNTED TALES was off my radar (and likewise VCD-only back in the day, I think) but Ive always been curious to see it as it was co-directed by the studio’s ‘classy’ director Chor Yuen and T. F. Mou, the dude who gave us MEN BEHIND THE SUN! Interesting pairing, I suspect!

(related note: I griped previously that one of these boutiques could easily do a multi-film Shaw Crime set, and based on this horror release, I still think it would be worthwhile)

Obviously I’m curious about that early-80’s HK picture they’re teasing. I’ve long thought some of Tsui Hark’s earliest pictures are criminally overdue for archival treatments, but who knows, maybe it’s just another Shaw flick.

Totally agree on TIME CRIMES. That’s one of the better time-travel films ever, and on a relatively small scale, with some great twists! Years ago, Magnet Releasing put out a limited edition DVD (apparently a Blockbuster exclusive?) that contained a wildly different alternate cut of the film that unfurls in chronological order and shows how well thought out Vigalondo’s mechanics were, and damned if it’s nearly as good as the released version! Presumably VS will include it, even if I do prefer the release version. There was a decent making-of doc on the DVD, but VS could easily expand on that.

Also agree on THE GARBAGE PAIL KIDS movie. I loved the original concept of the cards and even have the ‘art book’ version of them, but that movie is insufferable. But I guess VS knows it has a very nostalgic fanbase. -rolleyes-

Trailers are up now:

Some amusing YT comments on this one:

Finally, an interesting BTS on the REVIVER release with the ‘mystery title’ revealed by someone in the comments as 1972’s BOOTS AND THE PREACHER (unless VS is being cagey and showing an unrelated ‘lost film’ in the video).

Just checked these and the Mitchell Brothers title is BEHIND THE GREEN DOOR in 4K, so I guess they’re starting off with a fairly key title for those who are into vintage porn. Haven’t seen it outside of the clip Jackie Chan and Michael Hui watch on their car’s TV in CANNONBALL RUN  (which is reflected in the YT thumbnail below!) but I’m sure it’s on various sites in watchable form for test runs. Still, it looks like an impressive set:

The “VS Ultra” line of titles have never been high art by any stretch, but I kind of understood the vibe they were going for with each release, and was generally happy to pick up most of the movies for the sake of having a ridiculously high quality release for such cinema. But, I do feel like Mac & Me, and now Garbage Pail Kids are a case of VS seeing just how far they can take it.
I can’t justify shelling out that kind of cash for either of these, especially not when the first VSU title (Beastmaster!) was $35, and now these are $40+ ‘on sale’.
These last two VSU titles in particular are Big Lots bargain bin movies at best… a decidedly bigger step down, even from the trashy midnight fare that the rest of them have been.

Yeah, I think the last BF pre-order I did was Flesh for Frankenstein because that's a movie I absolutely have to have, and Timecrimes is right there, especially with all the bonuses on the limited edition.

Oh, and a last "Syntober" update, I only got Terminal Island because I'm a sucker for Corman-esque prison camp movies, even ones Corman had nothing to do with. Like this one. Thought I got off light, as the rest of the Syntober titles I either already owned or wasn't interested in. Then Phase IV comes up, easy pass, except work was slow so I spent a lot of time researching it and seeking out reviews. Long story short, it's on its way.

Ended up buying about 5 over the month, and their comics, nothing that was a must have, but just giving in to my ‘sale’ addiction and media hoarding.
