Re: The Official Vinegar Syndrome Thread
I ended up ordering the Thriller slip and the Vice Academy set and A New Leaf. The problem is that between the Shout/Scream Factory blow out sales, BF deals, Criterion sale, and the new releases of Hard Boiled and The Killer this has been a pretty expensive month before factoring in the Vinegar Syndrome sale.

Re: The Official Vinegar Syndrome Thread
Yeah I was relieved that there were no RSD exclusives that interested me, and I am pretty caught up with old stuff that I want on vinyl.
I did pass on The Man Who Could Cheat Death, mainly cause I know that Hammer is planning their own release of that and I think that I would rather have whatever they do instead of the VS release. |
Re: The Official Vinegar Syndrome Thread
Partners Only month is up. I’m cutting and pasting this direct from their email so hopefully it displays alright. Order stacking with BF orders is still enabled, for the moment. Personally I’m most keen to eventually get Joe Dante’s MOVIE ORGY as that has been mentioned many times over the years in DVD Savant columns here (it seems to be selling fairly well, too, which probably scotches my hopes of holding out for a sale, at least on the slip). Also gotta admit, sometimes I get weary – and wary – of all the new labels popping up these days:
Partners Only month has arrived, and the labels have truly outdone themselves! In addition to a whopping 26 new releases—from gory horror to SOV suspense, classic cinema to new experimental indies—we’ve got an LP, new essential reading, and more. Klubb Super 8 presents a chilling restoration of Arne Mattson’s queasy 1962 classic THE DOLL on Blu-ray. And, Film Movement Classics brings THE DAM BUSTERS, the true story of WWII’s Operation Chastise and a major inspiration for Star Wars’ cinematography, to 4K UHD; and COURTESANS AND CRIMINALS: THE UNDERWORLD OF HIDEO GOSHA, a double feature from the genre master on Blu-ray. Wild Eye Releasing presents a bonus-laden Blu-ray of low-budget 35mm mind trip ASYLUM OF DARKNESS, directed by Jay Woelfel (Beyond Dream’s Door). Shudder brings two pulse-pounders to Blu-ray: festival favorite SLAPFACE, about the adventures of a boy and his monster-in-the-woods friend; and the snow-bound, female-led riff on The Shining, BAD THINGS. And, for the incurably holly jolly horror fan, warped seasonal satire GNOME SICK: 7 SLAYS TIL MITHRAS sleighs onto Blu-ray from Dark Star. The story of the British Invasion teens behind “She’s Not There,” HUNG UP ON A DREAM: THE ZOMBIES DOCUMENTARY comes to Blu-ray from Utopia. On Blu-ray from Enjoy the Ride comes the nostalgia-rich journey to the many real-life homes of the media of our youths (and beyond), THE HOUSE FROM… And from Dark Star, a behind-the-scenes look at the filmmaker’s creative process and the adaptation that never was, GEORGE A. Pro skaters and pro actors (Ryder McLaughlin, Vince Vaughn) star in Mikey Alfred’s NORTH HOLLYWOOD, a bittersweet comedy on Blu-ray from Brainstorm Media. And from Factory 25, Alexandra Simpson’s dreamlike portrait of impending doom, NO SLEEP TILL. |
Re: The Official Vinegar Syndrome Thread
Interesting cover for The Sadness.
Will be curious about the price of Hundreds of Beavers. I liked it but hopefully they'll keep the price nice. |

Any fans of Asian cinema seen the two movies that comprise Courtesans & Criminals: The Underworld of Hideo Gosha? I'm interested in that one, but I'm not as quick to blind buys these days.

Re: The Official Vinegar Syndrome Thread
Has anyone had any luck with cancelling orders? I was on the site last night, and saw they had a handful of copies of Joe Bob Goes to the Drive-in, hardcover edition. I jumped at the chance and ordered it before going out of stock. Only afterwards did I see that Amazon has plenty of copies in stock, and more than $20 cheaper.
Hoping I can get my VS order for it cancelled. I emailed them, no word yet ETA: nevermind, they took care of me. Great company. |

Re: The Official Vinegar Syndrome Thread
Not sure about VS shipping schedule since I don't order a lot directly from them. I placed an orders on Nov 28 and another on Dec 1 and neither has shipped yet, will they wait until that partners thingy ends before sending them out?
|
Re: The Official Vinegar Syndrome Thread
VS says that it is subscribers first, then all others in order. But if you placed a preorder then your order will get held up. Really I think it is totally random, since I have ordered stuff during the BF sale last year and not had it ship until the end of December, but I got my order from this year in the mail today. But I didn't order anything from the partner labels sale either year so it couldn't have been something from that sale holding last years order up.

Re: The Official Vinegar Syndrome Thread
My 4 Vinegar Syndrome movies:
The Angel trilogy China O'Brien 1 and 2 on 4K finally shipped after I ordered them on BF. They are suppose to come by Monday. |
Re: The Official Vinegar Syndrome Thread
Got all the stuff I ordered from them on the BF sale and the pre-orders today and I am not a subscriber. Just FYI.

That tracks, since I already got my package. It was a pre-order of Timecrimes (still can't recommend that movie enough, I mean it) then a bunch of stuff I ordered over Thanksgiving weekend, and actually a few partner titles I added early on in December. |
Re: The Official Vinegar Syndrome Thread
The ribbon on my copy of A New Leaf was not attached to the slipbox. First time I have had a problem with a VS item. I do not think I will complain about it though.

Re: The Official Vinegar Syndrome Thread
Does the VS release of TCM 2 have anything significant that the arrow release doesn’t have? Is it the same restoration? Which release do you prefer?
|
Re: The Official Vinegar Syndrome Thread
For TCM 2 Arrow probably comes in a nice box while Vinegar Syndrome just has the standard packaged edition. They did have a Variant Slipcover but I don't remember if it sold out.

Re: The Official Vinegar Syndrome Thread
New Rose Hotel arrived a couple of days ago. Just ordered that by itself
|
Re: The Official Vinegar Syndrome Thread
The VS website reopens at 12:01 EST time today for subscribers week. They are supposed to announce a new VSU and several other new releases.

Re: The Official Vinegar Syndrome Thread
New titles are up!
Well, 2026 blows 2025 out of the water. How is that possible, you might ask? Just wait and see… We're starting the year with a devilishly delectable January, including our latest installment in the celebrated MADE IN HONG KONG series, this time collecting a trio of non-stop action hits, all newly and exclusively restored by VS: NEW YORK CHINATOWN MASSACRE (1988) in its original widescreen aspect ratio for the first time on disc, FINAL JUSTICE (1988) starring Stephen Chow, and director Herman Yao's kung fu-infused rarity BEST OF THE BEST (1992). But that's not all… Get Tromatized with Lloyd Kaufman's ultimate meta-bloodbath, TERROR FIRMER (1998) on 4K UHD, newly and exclusively restored and loaded with hours of new and archival extras. And finally, from the maestro himself, Dario Argento's insanely gory adaptation of THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA (1999) starring the late, great Julian Sands hits 4K UHD, exclusively restored by VS and jam packed with extras. And that's just the tip of the iceberg. February will yield the disc debut of what is easily amongst the craziest 80s horror movies, period, with DEMONWARP on 4K UHD+BD for the first time, while March will unveil our next FORGOTTEN GIALLI (including a crazy rarity from Bruno Mattei), and April will offer the stunningly beautiful LADY IN WHITE on 4K UHD in all three of its released versions, along with the first in a series of Italian gore classics all making both their 4K UHD and BD debuts. As the year goes on, you can try to prepare yourself for the insanity of Hong Kong horror aplenty, including an all-horror installment of MADE IN HONG KONG, more SHAW SCARES, and beyond—plus slashers on 4K, 80s horror classics and rarities, AND another show-stopping Black Friday. For anyone who knows what we do, you can guess that these packages aren’t for the faint of heart. Every month, you’ll wake up one unassuming morning to a freshly delivered box of beautiful sleaze. We don't have a 100% locked-down release schedule, but we can approximate it (the release schedule below is subject to change). If we put out fewer releases than predicted, we will issue coupons for the difference. If we release more, congratulations—you win! January 2026: 3 VS releases totaling $189.94 (SRP) Including: MADE IN HONG KONG Vol. 3 feat. NEW YORK CHINATOWN + BEST OF THE BEST + FINAL JUSTICE (3x BD set), TERROR FIRMER (4K UHD+BD), Dario Argento's PHANTOM OF THE OPERA (4K UHD+BD) February 2026: 3 VS releases $199.94 (SRP) Including: DEMONWARP (4K UHD+BD debut), 1980s Italian horror (4K UHD+BD), Early 90s erotic murder thriller (Uncensored 4K UHD+BD) March 2026 3 VS releases totaling $224.94 (SRP) Including: FORGOTTEN GIALLI set feat. Bruno Mattei sleaze gem and two other trashy treats all in BD debuts (3x BD set), an ultra gory 80s Italian horror shocker (4K UHD+BD debut), gory 90s slasher (4K UHD+BD debut) April 2026: 3 VS releases totaling $199.94 (SRP) Including: LADY IN WHITE (4K UHD+BD feat. all three versions), 80s drive-in horror properly restored for the first time on disc (4K UHD+BD), classy and gory 80s Italian horror (4K UHD+BD debut) May 2026: 4 VS releases totaling $279.92 (SRP) Including: Essentially giallo in 4K UHD debut (4K UHD+BD), Studio made mystery/slasher (4KUHD+BD), plus two hard hitting Horror Surprise Releases (both 4K UHD+BD) June 2026: No VS releases planned during Partners Only Month July 2026: 3 VS releases totaling $204.94 (SRP) Including: All horror MADE IN HONG KONG (3x BD set), 80s Slasher (4K UHD+BD), early 90s horror (4K UHD+BD) August 2026: 3 VS releases totaling $174.94 (SRP) Including: UHD+BD debut of crazy 80s Italian horror, uncensored disc debut of jaw dropping Hong Kong thriller, 4K UHD debut of unnerving 80s horror/sci-fi September 2026 3 VS releases totaling $174.94 (SRP) Including: UHD double of classic early 80s horror, UHD+BD debut of weird and glory 80s Italian horror, disc debut of eerie 70s Hong Kong horror October 2026: 4 VS releases totaling $274.92 (SRP) Including: 4K UHD+BD debut of 90s horror by major director, disc debut of Hammer rarity, 4K debut of 80s horror, SHAW SCARES set feat. 3x Shaw Bros Shockers November 2026: 4 VS releases totaling $279.92 (SRP) Including: 4K UHD debuts of two bloody classics by genre icons along with two equally insane Surprise Releases December 2026: No VS releases planned during Partners Only Month |
Re: The Official Vinegar Syndrome Thread
I have all the VSUs through Congo so Virtuosity is next on the buy list. The Lost Film collection is $47.99 in the daily deals section so that might get me to bite on buying it.
The next VSU release is Tank Girl. A movie ive never seen but remember how bad of a bomb it was at the box office. |
Re: The Official Vinegar Syndrome Thread
I'm considering Tank Girl. I'll rewatch first. I did meet Lori at SDCC and she's as quirky as her character. I thought it was odd that she wrote the movie title on the DVD cover.

FWIW, this is a decent sale to stock up on stuff on that sale page as they generally doesn’t get much cheaper, and $10-15-ish is a reasonable price to sample things you’re even remotely curious about while being able to make some of (or more than) that money back if you decided to sell or trade them later on. I suppose some of the 60% titles could eventually make it to 70% off, but the latter discount is always on a smaller selection and often applied to more partner titles than VS stuff as I recall, so it could take a while for many titles to reach that discount. I’ve picked up nearly everything on that page in previous sales for more or less the same price, but there are a couple of stragglers there I might take a chance on, but the risk is that I don’t find much else in subsequent offering this week and then I’m stuck paying shipping to Canada for two or three discs. Only one of the new titles interests me so far – MADE IN HONG KONG 2, which probably goes without saying :) – but I’m torn between waiting for that one in a future sale, which is all but guaranteed, or maybe trading in some old stuff for it at the VS store. Guess I’ll see how the week shakes out. |
Re: The Official Vinegar Syndrome Thread
I just checked their ‘locations’ listing for no apparent reason and noticed that they now have a fifth location ‘coming soon’ in Minneapolis. Not sure if anyone here lives near there, but if you do it’ll probably be worth a trip or ten. :)

I’ll get BLAST-OFF GIRLS eventually because I do like what AGFA does with the old Something Weird library, and it means another old DVD I can unload. And I’d really like to see AN UNFINISHED FILM, but again, preferably if it stays in stock until a sale as I doubt I’d keep it despite thinking Lou Ye is one of the most crucial China directors of all time. I missed this at TIFF 2024 and like so many of his films it’s banned in China, which instantly made it higher in priority for me. There are a few other partners titles that I’d certainly watch, but more likely on streaming as they’re so recent I’d rather not bother with them on physical media. |

Plus, DON'T BE AFRAID OF THE DARK marks the first in a nearly 40-title distribution license we've recently signed with Warner Bros! Not only will this bring plenty more made-for-TV classics and rarities to Blu-ray and 4K UHD, but get ready for an incredible assortment of horror, thrillers, action, arthouse, and other oddities from the Warner vaults, including numerous 4K UHD, Blu-ray, and even disc debuts. |
Re: The Official Vinegar Syndrome Thread
Yeah, I'm excited about the Iconscope label.

Re: The Official Vinegar Syndrome Thread
The Great Silence 4K completely sold out.

Re: The Official Vinegar Syndrome Thread
Im sure that Warner Bros. Deal will include access to New Line movies. I can think of so many movies that would fit in perfectly for VS that came from New Line
|
Re: The Official Vinegar Syndrome Thread
Iconoscope is a TV Film specialty line, though. Salem's Lot would have been a no-brainer but Arrow scooped that up with the WB deal they have in place.
