Re: The Official Arrow Films 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread
Me too! I watched The Stuff all the time on USA, and it's one I've owned on VHS, DVD, and Blu-ray. I'll be first in line for a UHD release, especially of a longer cut.

Re: The Official Arrow Films 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread
I am about to buy 4 Arrow UHD titles that I really want as part of my collection from Diabolik right now, so you can thank me if they announce a sale shortly after my order is placed, lol!😂
Picking up The Long Kiss Goodnight, Deep Blu Sea, Lifeforce, and The Andromeda Strain Pulled trigger, biggest batch of movies I have bought at one time in the past couple of years. |
Re: The Official Arrow Films 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread
^ Well, they did just wrap up their Easter Carnage sale at a number of sites. I’m not sure if Diabolik participates in that, but if they did hopefully you got some of those at a discount! Otherwise, is it too late to hold off until their Camp Arrow Summer Sale? That should be the next one, I think.

Re: The Official Arrow Films 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread
Wow, so the answer is both Cobra and The Stuff! Cobra includes the theatrical version and the TV cut (the latter in SD), and The Stuff has both the theatrical cut and the recently discovered pre-release cut.

Plus a few other things:
https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/dvdtalk...081cf1a10.jpeg Looks like they retained the older supplements for COBRA, added one relevant new one with the composer, and a bunch of stuff from a slew of critics with what I can imagine will be an abundance of overreaching hindsight. The TV cut is a nice bonus, but I assume that means the prerelease version is unavailable (even if some of the tv footage presumably comes from it). COBRA extras:
STUFF supplements: 2-DISC 4K ULTRA HD BLU-RAY LIMITED EDITION CONTENTS

Re: The Official Arrow Films 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread
Brian T, I was a bit worried that if I held off on some of these titles they would be OOS even as little as a few weeks from now, and I would have to chase them. I think there was a small sale going on as most (all) of the titles seemed to be listed at Amazon but at much higher prices. I forget which title, but one of them was down to 5 copies in stock (wow, it was The Long Kiss Goodnight, and is now down to 1 copy listed in-stock...yup, glad I grabbed, I freaking love this film).
Just checked, things like The Andromeda Strain are still listed as $50 on Amazon, $33 on Diabolik's site (down from $35) so I definitely picked up some of these titles at sale prices, cool. I was also not paying attention that The Andromeda Strain, a fave film of mine, was getting a UHD release. I had the blu in my Amazon cart forever, even passing on some sales because I just thought it would be a title I did not have to worry about it going OOP, or not being in stock at Amazon. So I was like hot damn(!) when I saw TAS was listed as a current release on Diabolik's site and quickly added that to my order. Also, with the tariff nuttiness going on, if I find something I really, really, really, want to eventually own, I should grab the item now if it is at a price point I can afford because who know what the future holds. If Cobra and The Stuff end up on sale say a month or two after they are released, I might bite and buy the films. Cobra has lots of actions scenes, quality of the film does not matter to me in this case, and I remember seeing probably the last 10 minutes or a bit more of The Stuff on TV (probably on a Saturday afternoon when those types of films could pop-up on your tv) and it actually creeped me out but knowing how it ends I would be down to watch it from start to finish. I paid a few bucks for the Route package insurance and they are prepping my order now, that was nice and fast. I love that I am down to buying titles that I desire to open and watch as soon as I can when they are delivered to me. The only reason I ended up with sealed copies of Robocop LE Steelbook and the deluxe American Werewolf in London still on my shelves is that by the time I wanted to watch I had to go tell myself not to open them due to their actually having gone up in value (significantly) since I bought them. |
Re: The Official Arrow Films 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread
I recently re-watched Cobra on Max maybe less than a year ago. It's super cheesy and dated at hell. But, It was still a fun watch. I own the old WB BD from many years ago and honestly, I don't see myself spending a premium price for it. I know these Arrow 4K titles are going to be a minimum of $30. Not going to say never, but I'm not urgently wanting it.

Also, with the tariff nuttiness going on . . . If Cobra and The Stuff end up on sale say a month or two after they are released, I might bite and buy the films. Also, I’ve had stuff in my Diabolik carts go OOS because I procrastinated, but they often restock if the item is still in print. And unlike, say, Vinegar Syndrome with their sometimes frustratingly limited runs on many titles, Arrow seems to get better and/or longer licensing deals that keeps their stuff from going OOP too soon. But if COBRA and THE STUFF are on the radar for watching sooner, there’s not much point in waiting if you want ‘em! Diabolik’s preorder prices are a smidge lower than Arrow’s pricing on their own site. Both charge for shipping, but I think Diabolik is lower there as well. The main reasons I wait for Arrow sales are their inevitable 50% discounts and their points, which have added up fast in my case, and which I use to drop those sale purchases even further. I’ve rarely bought Arrow titles from Amazon, to be honest. You’d think they’d have the buying/selling power to offer consistently competitive prices on stuff, but their Arrow titles are almost always considerably higher than some of the little guys. I mean, even now, their preorder prices on COBRA and THE STUFF are $50 U.S. -eek- That’s ridiculous, and it’s $15 - $17 higher than at Arrow and Diabolik. I suppose they do fluctuate during the preorder period, but I don’t see much advantage in that risk. |

Re: The Official Arrow Films 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread
My order arrived and I am a very happy camper. I know what I will be doing this weekend, watching my Arrow UHDs (lol!). I shall start with Lifeforce because I think I have seen the international version maybe once? I say this having seen the film at least 5-6 times so it will be cool to see the extended cut for the first time in well over 10 years.
Next will most likely be The Andromeda Strain because once again it has been so many years since my last viewing, and certainly not in the best format available. |

I never did get around to getting the TL&DILA release from Kino. Wonder if this one will be improved at all?

I already bought the standard To Live in Die in LA 4k.
I wish one of these boutique labels would release Quz Show or at least put it on Blu-ray. |

Did Disney sell some of their physical media rights to another company?
|
Re: The Official Arrow Films 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread
Disney has a physical media distribution deal with Sony. Some Fox/Disney movies have been released through Criterion but they don't have any deals with other boutique labels currently.

Arrow licensed 156 Golden Princess titles from Shout for release in the UK. The first wave should be coming in 2026. (source)
