Finally bought Shawscope Volume 2 after all these years, as it was $62.99 on Amazon today (89.99 but with a 30% coupon to click), and I had $57 in credit so I ended up only paying $11 out of pocket.

Great deal, and I thought I got a great deal when I paid $80 + Tax. It gives me hope that if I remain patient I can get Volume 3 for no more than $80. I just have to keep an eye on posts on this site highlighting when Arrow titles go on sale. Between already released titles and upcoming titles I am building a bit of a back log of titles I want to grab. Shawscope Volume 3, Lifeforce, The Long Kiss Goodnight, and Deep Blue Sea.

Again, I just have to be more alert to catch them on sale.

I’ve mentioned this trick before, but if you put a bunch of titles in your Arrow wish list, the site will automatically generate ‘price change’ emails within moments of a drop, at the outset of every sale. A couple on your list are also on mine. Not all of the boutiques offer that feature. It’s one of the reasons that ive spotted their ‘too low’ mistakes on occasion (including on this set a while back). Whether they honour those screw-ups is anybody’s guess, though. Some get canceled, some don’t, but the email notifications can help even with regular drops, especially if quantities are getting low.

The cheapest I’ve seen a Shawcope set go was when Hamilton Book had some Vol. 1 sets for $60 near the time it went OOP. That kinda became my threshold but I’ve never seen the others go that low except when Arrow made a mistake in a sale.

Argh!

Jason Goes to Hell has the single best kill in the entire franchise (not to mention legendary morning show DJs Mark and Brian getting their heads knocked together like coconuts) so you better believe you need it!

You mean the stake through the woman in the tent on the unrated version? I always like the frozen face scene in Jason X.

Arrow is releasing Road House on 4K. Didn’t Vinegar Syndrome just release it?

Re: The Official Arrow Films 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread

That would be a triple dip from the boutique labels if it's true. The Vinegar Syndrome release is the last time I'm buying it.

It might be a UK-only release, but the Vinegar Syndrome edition is turning 3 years old this Fall, so maybe...?

Good gawd. What else can they bring to that movie? An interview with the caterer? I’m betting a UK LE edition of SHOWGIRLS is just around the corner (unless it already exists?).

Also, what’s the deal with so many new boutique releases not showing actors’ likenesses in the commissioned art for their slipcovers? Arrow’s upcoming releases for THE LONG KISS GOODNIGHT and INGLOURIOUS BASTERDS and Vinegar Syndrome’s VIRTUOSITY are typical recent examples. Presumably they save a few bucks doing that?

Believe it or not but I don't think Road House was ever released on Blu-ray in the UK before, so it makes total sense for Arrow to put it out.

Re: The Official Arrow Films 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread

Well maybe Arrow is releasing it only in the UK. I don't think the rights for Road House would be expiring with Vinegar Syndrome anytime soon

The artist said in this case that they didn’t have likeness rights:

^ Figured as much. I wonder if it’s really a case of rights not being made available so much as the boutiques not being willing to pay them anymore to save money, at least on certain titles. I can’t knock the talent of most of the artists in coming up with reasonable solutions, but sometimes these generic ‘silhouette’ slips push me toward standard editions where I can at least flip the sleeve art to the studio version, if it’s an option.

I actually like that Road House cover art and how the slip case works with it.

Even though I have no interest in getting it, I like it too.

Re: The Official Arrow Films 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread

As I mentioned, I don’t begrudge the artists their skills in coming up with workarounds for these ‘no likeness’ silhouette covers, but they still make these companies look cheap. The ROAD HOUSE slip at least shows some ingenuity despite the forced need for novelty.

88 Films did a couple of similar slips for Hong Kong movies in recent months: AN AUTUMN’S TALE and IMMORTAL STORY. The clear slips are quite attractive and interact well with ‘no likeness’ paper sleeve in the case, but the (minor?) problem with both of these – and the ROAD HOUSE design, I suspect – is that if you prefer to flip the sleeves and use the studio poster art, which I wanted to in the case of both HK films, the ‘effect’ looks awful, so in a way they force you to use their newly commissioned artwork instead, regardless of whether it’s good or bad.

I have a feeling these clear plastic slips are going to become more common in the face of companies not wanting to pay for the rights, though. I wonder if the rights to do ‘new’ artwork using famous faces have gotten more expensive in recent months, or if actors or agencies are getting more nitpicky about ‘new’ art being generated for movies they made decades ago?

Or maybe do it yourself slips will become all the rage like VS sent out recently.

Arrow just posted on their Facebook page that their Road House release is for the UK only. I think it's coming out in June.

Undoubtedly, the American rights are still with Vinegar Syndrome.

^^ Plus it looks nearly identical to the Vinegar Syndrome 4k.

Arrow version will have Dolby Vision and an FiM worked in, I believe.

Swordfish is such a trashy movie, yet I found it somewhat entertaining, I haven't seen it in many many years. Not sure I would pay a premium price for it. I think I have the old WB snapper DVD laying around somewhere.

Re: The Official Arrow Films 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread

I still have the snapper dvd of Swordfish as well. I rewatched it recently and it's a time capsule of the early 2000s. Travolta is really over the top as the villain.
