Some of those Giallo Essentials sets lately remind of the Forgotten Gialli sets from VS. Real mixed bags, but packaged all pretty for those who can't say no . . .

As far as I'm aware, Arrow only did one pressing of the Limited Edition, and never did a recall on it to replace the discs before sending them back out, so I think every new copy you buy will have the defective disc.
. That said, the stories I saw on the other forum about troubles replacing the defective discs are from people who bought the Special Edition, because, supposedly, the Special Edition wasn't supposed to have defective discs, but some copies did for some reason, and Arrow was refusing to acknowledge that. So, if you truly are getting the Limited Edition, then there should be no issue with getting a replacement disc |

I'm pretty sure I got a corrected disc in my Donnie Darko LE 4K set, though I picked it up quite awhile after release.

The corrected disc says, "V2" at the end of the stock # on the actual disc. |

Shawscope Volume 2 is $94.63 + tax and free shipping from Walmart via Deep Discount. Basically the same price it would be at current price + 15% off coupon whenever they have one, plus no extra shipping charge.

Arrow's announcements are tomorrow.
A few titles have leaked already, via a Canadian retailer: Spoiler:

My local Best Buy shows that they have the 12 Monkeys 4K UHD in stock for $25, is there any way to tell if it has the corrected disc based on the packaging?

Anyone get the Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves limited edition? If so, how is it as a total package?

The Shaw Brothers Shawscope Volume 2 set is now $104 I'm still holding out until it reaches under $100. I just have too much to watch right now and I can wait. |

Yeah I'm holding out until Amazon reaches that price point. It's just easier for me to order from them when it's available there and I get points on my Amazon Visa.

Re: The Official Arrow Films 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread
Pretty sure some retailer just had Shawscope Volume 1 for around $70 - $80 in a recent sale, so I see no reason that Vol. 2 won't reach that price eventually. I don't think these are in any danger of selling out, despite how well done they are.

Re: The Official Arrow Films 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread
Blackhat has a theatrical version and international version on that set. I’m curious if the international version is the cut that aired on FX several years ago? I recall Blackhat wasn’t even really that good and was a box office bomb. Surprised it’s getting this SE treatment.
|
Re: The Official Arrow Films 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread
It's not the director's cut that was on FX, they couldn't get the rights to it apparently.
I tried watching it again recently and fell asleep. |
Re: The Official Arrow Films 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread
BLACKHAT was barely on my radar when I watched it on a DVD from the library, so I found out it tanked theatrically after I watched it . . . and actually didn't mind it, although not enough to bother with an edition like this. It definitely requires a certain frame of mind to get through, though, which almost felt intentional.
Sometimes it feels like the boutiques are running out of truly great stuff to pick from anymore. . |
Re: The Official Arrow Films 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread
International cut shortens one scene. That's it. Honestly seems odd to include both cuts in that case.
Director's Cut restructures the film. It's still... Not great... But I recall finding it a bit more engaging, even if only slightly so. It really is a shame they couldn't get the rights. A 'restructured' cut exists out there on the internet for those willing to seek it out..someone took the theatrical cut Blu-ray and crudely stitched the scenes together to match the DC, more or less. |
Re: The Official Arrow Films 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread
Yeah I think that one is a pass for me. I didn’t even really like it and I love most of Michael Mann’s work. I’m not about to throw away $20 something for a special edition of a bad movie.
