Like you folks, I'm cool with that based on what I've seen so far. I hope that the 212 discs in your Shaw library at least include a decent cross-section of films from their other genres, because those are likely to remain the only discs in existence for a lot of them (especially the IVL discs), and the opportunity to find others at this point is exceedingly difficult and expensive (unless one is ok using those "other" means, I suppose?).

Here is my list of the 212 Shaw films that I have watched so far Brian: Shaws watched and ranked

I always wanted to get the ZiiEagle but didn’t have any way of getting it to Canada. It would have been nice to have 668 Shaw films in one spot. That box only had the films at 720p max and from what the owners of the box have told, the films that did not have a physical release, were not remastered and look worse than DVD. Not YouTube bad but not far off.

I want that Shaw Brothers volume 2 set, but I think I’m going to hold out for a sale.

Its release should dovetail with Barnes and Noble’s 50% off sale (which Amazon has been price matching), so it should be around $95 on day one.

I feel like there was an Arrow sale (maybe it was direct) not long after it came out and it was not included in the sale price. Maybe 30% off max. I would love if it works out that way to be 50%, but I’m not banking on it until it’s actually out.

With the way B&N handles preorders for titles released while sales are ongoing, we should know at the beginning (or very early) November if ShawScope will be a part of it. I can't remember any exclusions in previous years.

The Target B2G1 sale isn't a bad option, either. That's what I did last year.

Just to correct myself. I looked back at my Amazon order history and I got Volume 1 for $129.99 plus tax and it came out to like $141 and change.

I’ll try to hold out until Volume 2 hits below $100.

Noticed Grindhouse Video has a two-fer pre-order of Shawscope 1 and 2 for $220.
https://grindhousevideo.com/products/shawscope-bundle-volumes-1-and-2-blu-ray
Their pre-order price on Vol. 2 by itself is $140, so technically speaking, that makes Vol. 1 $80. Or each set $110 if you prefer. Not sure if other retailers will do this (really makes you think Vol. 1 wasn’t as massively popular as the hype would have you believe) but might be worth considering for folks who don’t have Vol. 1 yet.

Personally, I have Vol. 1 so I’m likewise in the “wait till it’s under $100” camp on Vol. 2 (maybe even under $90), because it will get there eventually.

It looks like Grindhouse ($119.99) and Diabolik ($124.99) raised their prices on Shawscope Vol 2 to $139.99.

Yeah I’m going to wait until it’s under $100. It’s a little high for me at the moment and it’s not like this set is limited.

Well Arrow just announced new releases of the Wolf of Wall Street and Robin Hood Princes of Thieves but they are UK only releases. I would have liked to buy Robin Hood.

Upgrade to 4K or buy a region-free Blu-ray player and you won't have that issue anymore.

I just bought a 4k player a week ago.

Ultra HD Blu-ray is an all-region format, which makes those discs import-friendly by default. Sometimes a foreign release won't have the language options you want, and a couple have jerry-rigged a sort of region coding, but especially something in the UK is as close to 100% safe to import as it gets.

I'll consider importing Robin Hood so thanks for the insight.

Kinda surprised there hasn't already been a Sonny Chiba boxed boxed set assembled that would include this and maybe some of his similar films from that period. Shawscope Volume 2 is down to $140 in Amazon US if interested.

I received the Shawscope vol 2 set today. I was totally shocked. It's going to be a few weeks before I can bury myself in it though.

Since these are in-stock and already shipping, my conspiratorial mind is wondering if this is to avoid dovetailing with Barnes and Noble’s 50% off sale.

That's probably what it is.

I guess I'm just going to wait this out. I don't need it right away especially with all the other stuff getting released.

I'm only a little peeved about Silent Running being re-released in 4K. Seems I just got the Blu-ray. But it's not like the old days of a barebones DVD later getting a special edition.

Which is fair because I'm pretty sure Arrow said they wouldn't do that -- that once they started releasing movies in UHD, anything they released on Blu-ray from that point on would be "safe". But maybe there's an asterisk next to Silent Running since it never got a release in Arrow's home country of the UK till now.
