I like these boutique labels that give us these lesser known films but I hate the prices. I want Blood Rage as it sounds awesome but I don't know if I really want to spend $30 on it. I know stuff from the likes of Arrow, Shout/Scream, etc. don't drop in price very often though.

If you have an FYE around you, I've seen members of other forums post getting it there for $19.99 (Sale Price). Same reflected price online as well.

I also think Target has it for $25 (Free Shipping) via their Ebay account.

Around Nov-Dec, it was about $18 at Deepdiscount (before a 10-15% discount code). Keep and eye out there and/or Dvdplanet.

Arrow is working on a US store which should have cheaper prices and regular sales. Not sure when exactly that will happen, sometime this year.

Both Sho Kosugi titles are down to $19.99 on Amazon, so I ordered them both.

They only got to release it in the UK but Arrow Video did a beautiful, beautiful job on Beyond the Valley of the Dolls. A stunning film transfer with fantastic audio.

US releases of Battles Without Honor & Humanity & Edgar Allen Poe's Black Cats are OOP.

Whatever stock is left among retailers is all that is left in the States.

I'm glad I got Battles through Amazon Warehouse for $60.

I did as well, although I paid $70+ :(. Also, one of the cases is cracked. Does anyone know where I can buy Arrow replacement cases? I've never seen any like the ones they use.

Same here, it's a great box set. I've gone through most of the movies, and they look fantastic. And the extras have been really good so far. I paid $80, and honestly, I'm fine with that.

Wanting to pick up The Mutilator but really don't want to pay $40 for it. Haven't seen the film but it sounds like it'd be a good time.

It is $27.99 at Diabolik DVD:

or 20.75 shipped from Amazon UK:

Positive it should be a Region-Free release since it's a dual US and UK release.

I went through the American Horror Project box set this weekend. I hadn't seen any of the films before and really enjoyed them. Picture quality is pretty good considering how obscure these films are. There is some damage in some scenes but a majority of the films look pretty good. I watched most of the video extras and they add a lot to the overall package.

It's great to see the love that Arrow put into this package. They could have easily just made this a cheaper no-frills set but they went the extra mile and it's really worth the added cost. I hope this sells well enough to give us a volume 2.

I got my Pray for Death BD last week.

Great looking BD. I watched some of it last night. Movie feels very fresh looking for something that was shot 30 years ago.

Pretty decent amount of extras too. I liked the new interview with Sho Kosugi that was shot last year and there's also a TV special from 1985 where Sho talks about the movie.

The actress who played Sho's wife is pretty hot. Apparently Donna Kei Benz stopped working as an actress after 1987.

Having watched the film and all the extras this weekend, even though $40 is a princely sum this set is well worth it.

Nice. Looks like both Blood Rage and The Mutilator are around $20. Think I'll finally pick them both up. The reviews on Amazon UK make it sound like both are region free.

They are both region free, the only difference will be the UK ratings logos on the packaging.

Cool. I don't really care about the ratings logos as I've bought other UK releases in the past.

Figured I'd bring it up as some people get hung up on packaging, but yeah, Arrow's US/UK releases are identical otherwise. I have both releases, and man, Arrow does an amazing job with these forgotten cult flicks. I really wish they were able to release Audition here in the states. I'm not region-free. :(

The Mutilator (also known as Fall Break) is an easily forgettable slasher. I guess it might hold some charm for folks from North Carolina but I wouldn't buy it blind. Arrow did load up the special features. It's amazing how Arrow can have more special features for a zero-budget slasher than some Hollywood studios give Best Picture winners.

Re: The Official Arrow Blu-ray Thread

Yes, Arrow is in my estimation the BEST company producing Blu-Rays today! By a far margin. Their encodes are stellar (they actually LEANRED and improved from their earlier releases, some of which were rather poorly encoded). Unlike Scream Factory, who refuses to hire a new encoder or spend the money on good encoding software, and whose releases are still shamefully compression artifact-ridden.

Every Arrow release, no matter how obscure, is DONE RIGHT. Well-deserved kudos to them for their hard work in delivering what the fans want every time.

Unlike Criterion -- some of whose recent releases have been encoded with low bitrates, color timing modifications, and who have cowtalled to egocentric Director's wishes of revisionism...

Meh I've heard a lot of good reviews for it and I like 80s horror/slashers so I think I'll like it.

It's a depressing irony that Criterion's "director approval" would come back to bite them.

Many people have been upset with Criterion's revisionist film transfers, often changed by the director themselves.

And of course when people say that, they're really just talking about Thief, Dressed to Kill, and maybe a couple of the Malicks.

Vittorio Storaro's cropped transfer of The Last Emperor is the one that sticks in my craw the most.

Well, I'm refering to all of those already listed, as well as DON'T LOOK NOW (low bitrate encode), and their recent Cronenberg efforts of SCANNERS and THE BROOD (color revisionism / tealification).

DaveyJoe 02-26-16 04:54 PM

Re: The Official Arrow Blu-ray Thread

The Brood wasn't tealified. It just avoided the contrast boosting used in the UK edition. The Criterion looks more like film while the UK looks more digital.

Yeah, the encoding issues are probably the biggest bugaboo for me, but that's separate from the revisionism conversation. Good point on the Cronenbergs though. I said Malick, but I think I meant Cronenberg (although a couple of the Malicks have gotten criticism as well).
