Thinking of importing my first international bluray: Flight of the Navigator

So I'm considering buying an import on Flight of the Navigator as I found on bluray.com its getting a pretty elaborate collector's edition released in the UK and I know there's no chance Disney would release it here in the US.
https://www.blu-ray.com/news/?id=25243

  • BRAND NEW 4K RESTORATION SUPERVISED BY DIRECTOR RANDAL KLEISER
  • NEW Directing the Navigator - Interview With Randal Kleiser
  • NEW Playing The Navigator - interview with Joey Cramer
  • NEW Mother of The Navigator - interview with Veronica Cartwright
  • NEW Brother of The Navigator - interview with Matt Adler
  • NEW Art of the Navigator - interviews with Jeff Kleiser, Randal Kleiser and Edward Eyth
  • Audio Commentary with Randal Kleiser and Producer Jonathan Sanger
  • Reversible sleeve with new and original artwork
  • Optional English subtitles for the hard of hearing
  • REGION-FREE
Additional Limited Edition Content:
  • Rigid slipcase with new artwork by Rich Davies
  • 100-page soft cover book with Randal Kleiser's complete original storyboard, new essay by Kevin Lyons, original production notes, behind the scenes photos
  • Reversible poster with new and original artwork
STREET DATE: AUGUST 19.

The press release says its region free so it would play on a PS3 correct? Are there any other websites that would be worth checking out to shop for a better price or should I just buy it off of Amazon UK?

You could try Diabolik in the US. The price won't be cheaper, but if you are concerned with condition, they would probably package it a little safer than Amazon UK.

Zavvi.com might be fractionally cheaper than Amazon, but their packaging is even worse- and the prices you see on Amazon will further be reduced when they remove the VAT at checkout.

Overall Amazon is still the best overall value as far as price and shipping price/quality that I've found for UK imports. I'd probably try Zavi more often, but I've heard their customer service is a huge PITA. if you ever have a problem. Amazon, OTOH, are easy to contact to via the chat system and customer service is as good as the US and usually even better.

Here is what's currently available for Flight of the Navigator. It appears the original UK release was region-free as well.

Disney will probably release a barebones version as a club exclusive at some point. But that special edition will play on a PS3 since it’s region free.

Yeah the only way I'd ever see Disney putting it out would be the DMC exclusive. That UK set looks beautiful and I'd love to have it on my shelf.

Wouldn't region free play on any Bluray player?

I saw this on Facebook the other day but didn't realize it was a UK release at first. I wouldn't mind a US release.

Once you've bought enough imports, it's no longer a big deal (except maybe the price, and the waiting for it to get here.) Thanks to the weird 3D release patterns lately where it's "dead" in the US but they still come out elsewhere, I've gotten VERY used to importing. Region coding's no problem for me also

On the Amazon website is there a way to convert the price of the Euro to USD?

You’ll see the conversion at checkout. If you’re on amazon.co.uk, you’re seeing GBP, not EUR.

You could also use another currency conversion service, like xe.com, before checking out, bearing in mind that your actual price will be lower after VAT is removed.

I proceeded to checkout but it didn't say the amount in USD. I didn't order it yet but I hope to preorder soon.

I think Amazon UK gives you option to change currency - don't you will likely get better rate from your CC company if charged in FX

Yeah that’s shipping included through Amazon. And like Joey said, turn off currency converter.

I think its a good first sci fi movie for Kids and it was one of my favorite movies growing up. I've watched the dvd a lot recently, it really is a forgotten and overlooked movie in the Disney catalog.
