The scene where Dr. Floyd talks to the Russian scientists ends with a cut instead of a fade out.

I just signed up (The Old Man) and posted there. I'm not that active on the internet, but I need to get to the bottom of this.

Funny, when it goes to the lander you can see the over-blown blue on it. Compare the two. This is the color blue that's getting over-pumped. If the scene had gone on a little longer you would the blue problem on the crater's too. I wish there was I was I could post the scenes I want.

My Best Buy had two copies of the regular edition on the shelf today. The guy at the register refused to sell it though, saying it should not be out on the shelf. What a fuck up all around.

Looks delayed again. 12/18 now. Best Buy took the Steelbook off their site.

The really odd part is most stores have copies they jut can't sell.

What the hell?

I wonder if it has anything to do with the missing fade out in that one scene, or if there's something else going on with the title.

That's probably because Amazon actually shipped the things, as opposed to Best Buy. They have had them in stock for a week or two and numerous people, including myself, have been told they won't sell it until street date.

Why not just sell current stock and let it go OOS until they print more. Not like they haven't done this for numerous titles, especially 3D releases.

99.99999% chance it’s due to the disc replication issues going on as of late with pretty much everyone in region 1.

Have any experts on the film confirmed which is correct - the fade out or the cut? The fade out seems more "Kubrick" to me, but I have no idea. Either way, it's not a "huge" deal, but it would be nice to know.

^ yeah... Robert Harris confirmed in that HTF thread above that it's supposed to be a fade.

I actually canceled my order before it was about to ship. Amazon had it in shipping mode but I managed to cancel before they actually started to package it up.

They have been relisted on BB with new SKUs. Maybe they did fix/reprint them.

Who knows!

How can they fuck up a huge release like this is the mother of all questions.

I don't know exactly what is going on, but today there was a recall on the release at BBY. We had to pull our stock from the back and send it to our warehouse. This was not a normal media send back, but an alerted recall. Something seems up...
From a poster over on the BR forum. Sounds like this is really getting recalled.

The missing fade is hardly a fuck up of any magnitude worth grabbing pitchforks over. So many people wouldn’t even realize that a fade was supposed to be there, and even if they never corrected it, I’d be happy with this release.

That said, I’ve asked my editor to reach out to the studio for information and to see if they’ll provide us with another copy if the discs are actually getting corrected. I’d like to watch through the film again and make sure no other issues pop out (like newly introduced errors, which can happen when a studio moves to fix another issue).

It's a 50-year-old catalog title that's been released on Blu-ray before. I think you overestimate how "huge" the release actually is.

So we heard back and it’s just a manufacturing delay.

Or so they say... I mean, why would they not sell it after release date, also, one version is "incorrect", and it sounds like it might be the new one.

The really telling aspect is if they are asking for copies back during the interim or if there is a replacement process after the fact.

They fixed the disc to include the fade:

Got this from the other site:

Tristan_Wang said:
sorry to inform all of you fans, 2001 a space odyssey WCL exclusive edition will be delayed one month. We are informed today, there is a problem with the UHD and main feature BD, The final finished master was missing an original film editorial fade to black insert in the film – it should have had an 18 frame fade to black [0.7 seconds]. No footage is missing from the feature and audio remained in sync. The mastering team has fixed the issue. We are waiting for the new version discs. We don't accept the wrong disc and cut version feature, it's not match our concept. We insist on replace the new discs. sorry for delay.
