Re: THOR RAGNAROK: 4K Ultra HD / Blu-ray

I finally broke down and preordered the 3D version from Amazon UK. I'd love to eventually pick up the 4k as well, but I'm willing to wait for a big price drop on that. I'd rather get the 3D version first.

I really hoped that the store exclusive bundle model used for Kong and Guardians 2 was going to become the norm.

LOL, I'm just the opposite (want the 4K first).

my Thor: Ragnarok 3D shipped today. can't wait. the color in this should hopefully lend itself nicely to the post conversion...

my first choice is the 3D version as well. Since Disney Movie Club is now finally selling UHD discs, I'll just wait til 'Black Panther' is up for preorder and order that AND 'Thor: Ragnarok' to get a discounted price.

Re: THOR RAGNAROK: 4K Ultra HD / Blu-ray

sounds great, but why the fuck can't they keep the Atmos for the 3D or even the regular bluray? makes no sense even if to save space. the 3D will be seen next weekend and should be great.

Re: THOR RAGNAROK: 4K Ultra HD / Blu-ray

Yep, it is annoying when they leave the Atmos tracks off when they easily could've included them. Having to choose one or the other I still like 3D better (and my system does a decent job of faking Atmos when it's not there), but if 3D were not in the dire situation it's in right now I might just skip any release that doesn't include Atmos when it should. (Off topic but I've been watching the Kraftwerk "Catalogue" set in 3D AND Atmos, it's amazing.)

I have the regular cover shipping from Zavvi (didn't want to pay more for the steelbook), but am going to start watching the MCU movies all over again soon starting with Iron Man. Last time I watched them in the wrong order, sticking with each character's movies together (Iron Man 1-3 first, then Captain America 1 and 2, etc. The clues tying the movies all together didn't make a lot of sense that way.) Black Panther will probably be out by the time I get to that one, already got that pre-ordered too.

BTW the 3D version also has the shifting IMAX ratios while the included 2D doesn't, don't know about the 4K disc.

Re: THOR RAGNAROK: 4K Ultra HD / Blu-ray

I'm actually going 4K over 3D for this one. Besides Doctor Strange, I haven't been impressed with most of the Marvel 3D titles, and I have all of them. I think I'll get more use out of the 4K version once I pick up a TV than the 3D version that I'll watch once. I think those colors are really going to pop with a movie like this. On top of all of that, we actually use the digital copies a good bit now, and it sucks that the import codes won't work on the US accounts.

I've seen that reported on blu-ray.com's forums.

Re: THOR RAGNAROK: 4K Ultra HD / Blu-ray

artwork for 3D ain't that bad. at least no British logos and inside kinda shows the humor, if you've seen already, that is. could be better, but whatever. i have most of the Marvel movies in 3D and many SteelBook™, so what's one more...

this movie was just so much fun and if the 3D adds even a smidge that's a win. i'm sure the colors will pop. can't wait to revisit...

All that cool funky retro artwork and they put that on the steel?

Yeah, I don't get it, the film has a very contained, very planned out 80s retro style. That case looks like it's for a 300 knock-off.

Agreed, I already have two steel purchases next week in Aeon Flux and Dark Crystal. I'll stick with the regular 4k for this one. I'll probably opt to spend around $20 eventually for this one, though I don't know how successful I'll be.

there's got to be some rhyme or reason to that particular artwork...

For those that are interested in the Target exclusive, Target has a street date of the 9th in their system and as such the registers won't allow it to be sold until then. I'd advise to checking the forums or calling to see if the issue has been sorted out before making any special trips to pick one up.

Yeah, went this morning to pick it up at my local Target and one of the managers mentioned this to me. He didn't understand this either as the movie was released today everywhere else, including Target, yet their special edition had date for Friday. This was probably an error on them but so far they are running with the Friday release date.

Just picked up the 4K steelbook from Best Buy. I didn't see a single copy on the shelf so I asked the cashier and she said they only got enough to cover preorders.

There were only three 4K Steelbooks in my store and they were all snapped up at 10 am. I talked to the guy putting them out and he said the rest were preordered. I'm glad I went this morning.
