Dagnabbit...would have been happy to pick this up, but I will continue to enjoy the film when it pops up on the Syfy channel. I have the blu ray in my digital collection, but when I stumble onto the film during a basic cable airing I tend not to change the channel and often hit record on my tivo (I can rewatch Arnold single handedly taking down an entire police and SWAT force on a loop all day long).

Well, it says 12/26 for the U.S. release and the UK one is already available.

This is the old US BD compared to the new UK remaster, which I presume is the same as the US one. It's not 4k, but it should give a good idea of what went wrong.

The lionsgate looks like shit compared to the UK in terms of resolution. The UK is crisp but looks too blue.

Does the 2015 Blu-ray really look that bad? I thought that was supposed to be the good release.

And yeah, the color grading on the new one is terrible.

Not at all. In fact, that is the definitive version.

The UK is DNR'd straight to hell. It's not Predator Ultimate Hunter edition bad, but it's really bad. Inexcusable for 2017.

The 2015 blu is essentially the original blu from 2009 but with no DNR and no filtering.

That's right- it's an instruction for anyone who might find this release lying face-down in a ditch: do not resuscitate.

Re: Terminator 2 4K UHD - 12/26/2017

I decided to get the new disc, it was $16.99 at my walmart. At first glance I like the CGI fixes, and improved detail in the picture quality in a lot of scenes in the movie. Watching the SE version the transition between the remastered scenes and SE aren't as bad as I thought they would be. But the middle act in the desert is probably the only part of the movie that felt the transfer was really inconsistant in varying quality. I still don't get why the SE scenes couldn't get a complete remaster, but I'm sure its not the last release we will see. I used the digital copy code and couldn't even get the remastered cut.

Re: Terminator 2 4K UHD - 12/26/2017

Cancelled my pre-order after the early reviews, but ended up picking it up at Wal-Mart two days ago. I think it's worth picking up when it's on sale or reduced price. It's better than the two previous blus, despite its obvious flaws. It's pretty wild how much the amount of detail varies from scene to scene, but imo it's more of a step in the right direction.

Re: Terminator 2 4K UHD - 12/26/2017

Complete and utter pass. Don't support shoddy, tealified DNR'd revisionism, people! Even when the carrot is waved in your face at a 'low' price, that's no deal at all, as it tells those rapacious producers that you've validated their efforts at changing the way the film looks.

Re: Terminator 2 4K UHD - 12/26/2017

So this means the most recent stand-alone BD release (with Arnold on the motorcycle) is the best option, correct? I think it comes with a DC as well.

Bluelitespecial 01-10-18 09:11 PM

Re: Terminator 2 4K UHD - 12/26/2017

The newest release only has the theatrical cut is remastered. The SE is not and the scenes stick out really bad. The 2015 with the Arnold on the motorcycle is the best release for all versions of the movie.

melasnus 01-21-18 11:04 AM

Re: Terminator 2 4K UHD - 12/26/2017

Other than the obvious slight loss of detail during close up facial shots, I think it looks pretty good...particularly with the addition of HDR.
The new color grading doesn't bother me.

Okay so I read on the Digital Bits that the 4k T2 disc is getting re-released on July 17th along with the Endo-Skeleton arm deluxe set. Will this new release fix the problems of the 4k remaster, or include a full remaster of the Special Edition cut on Bluray? Will there be some sort of exchange for owners of the current 2 disc set, could that be possible?

I bet they just re-releasing the endo-arm. I doubt they going to re-release it with grain.

This is the first release of the Endo-Arm deluxe set. Plus the 2 disc 4k set by itself is getting rereleased. Bill Hunt hinted it could be a reissue to correct the first release.

This crap already came out a year ago and it was a Limited Edition. Apparently not limited edition enough since it's being re-issued. lol Hilarious when they call it "limited edition".

A "corrected" T2 disc will come out the same day as the True Lies and The Abyss Blu-rays that Bill has sworn were imminent for about six years now.

 I know Bill Hunt isn't always the most liked guy, but I hope they correct the issue of a full remaster of the Special Edition.

Don’t hold your breath on Paramount correcting anything. We’d have a better chance with them releasing the corrected version in other regions before ours.

It'd be Studio Canal overseas and Lionsgate here, though, right?

Sorry if I'm misremembering, but I think the only Terminator title that Paramount controls is Genisys.

Yes, Lionsgate put out all releases of T2 on bluray, and the first 4k release.

Re: Terminator 2 4K UHD - 12/26/2017

Ah, true Adam. But even if Lionsgate released it here, I doubt they'll do any corrections on it. Have they in the past? I'm actually not sure. I don't think they've even acknowledged the issues with the 4K release. I don't hate Bill or DigitalBits, but I definitely wouldn't take his work on any releases to correct the issues. Guess we'll know when the umpteenth release comes out.

$10 with some chump change:

melasnus 07-03-18 12:34 AM

At that price, it's a no-brainer.
Definitely the best presentation of the movie at the moment (IMO).

Yet still not worth it.

I still have the DVD which got the aluminum case. :p I never bothered to upgrade to blu-ray. I guess I'm not a huge fan.

This 4K seems to be the most controversial and the mother of all fuck ups from what I been reading. I'll avoid this one just in case of buyer's remorse.

Sonic 07-21-19 01:22 AM

Damn
For Black Friday it will be $1

DJariya 12-01-19 02:34 PM

Re: Terminator 2 4K UHD - 12/26/2017

So, I bought this 4K UHD for $7.99 on Black Friday at Best Buy.

I know the 4K master on here has gotten ridiculed for being shitty. But, on this specific release, there are 3 cuts of the movie. The theatrical cut, the special edition and the special edition extended cut from 2017.

So I figured I would get it for at least the decent BD that came with it and has the 3 cuts of the movie. Plus, if some of you are not aware, there is a new 1 hour documentary on the making of the movie that was filmed in 2017 and produced by Studio Canal. It has interviews with Cameron, Arnold, Brad Fiedel, Furlong, William Wisher and several others.

I watched the entire documentary yesterday and it's very good. Probably one of the better T2 behind the scenes documentaries that was made.

This is the 2nd version of T2 that I've gotten in HD. I still have the Skynet edition. But, I popped that one in the other day and it' a pretty shitty menu. The extras don't work anymore because they are powered by BD Live and that tech is no longer supported anymore on BD releases right? Because they would not load up at all and there was some loading issues because BD Live on that release was not working.

So after this, I think I am finally done with Terminator on home media. I have a BD, DVD and iTunes copy of Terminator. I have 2 BDs, 1 DVD and a 4K iTunes copy of T2. And I have T3 through Genisys on BD and of course I'll get Dark Fate when it comes out in 3 months or so.

E Unit 12-01-19 08:17 PM

Re: Terminator 2 4K UHD - 12/26/2017

Sounds like they need to release this on 4K the correct way and add in that new doc. Until then, I have no need for this.

Bluelitespecial 12-01-19 08:41 PM

Re: Terminator 2 4K UHD - 12/26/2017

If there's another 4k release the SE needs to be completely remastered.
