The only question I have is why was Scream given an interpositive scan of the film from Universal in the States but Arrow got a scan from the negative?

Anyways, I'm happy with Scream's version so I'll skip the Arrow release.

their twitter confirmed itll be Region B locked. The US Scream Factory was a 2k scan of the interpositive, the Arrow UK release is a 4k scan of the negative.

I am guessing it will depend on your tv setup as to how much the difference is

Re: THE THING: 2-Disc Collector's Edition -9/20/16

Tried several times yesterday to order the Thing Steelbook from the Arrow site.

I couldn't remember my password so I had to get emailed a new one. Took several hours for the email to get to me and by the time it did- SOLD OUT.

Amazon, Zavvi, Arrow...all sold out. I'm a fan of the original key art, so I was really coveting that steelbook. The Digipak LE is just a whole lot of junk to me. Looks like I'll be waiting for the plain ole vanilla standard edition now.

I still haven't cracked open my SF edition, but I have little doubt a 4K transfer from the Oneg is going to best it handily.

Universal's U.K. branch has given Arrow a lot more leeway in regards to their releases (such as creating brand new masters) whereas Universal's U.S. branch doesn't allow Shout Factory to do shit.

***New 3-Disc THE THING Steelbook! ***

Ever since we started releasing Steelbook® packaging of some of our prior John Carpenter titles, we been asked many times if we could also do this for his signature classic film THE THING. Today we’re happy to announce that we are doing just that and even upgrading our previous in the process! Read on for more details:

• Official street date is November 6th for U.S. and Canada territories (Region A).

• This is a 3-Disc Blu-ray set. Disc 1 will include a more recent 2017 4K High-Definition scan of the film that was provided to us from the film’s licensor. Discs 2 and 3 will be the same content that is currently available on our 2016 Collector’s Edition release.

• Only 10,000 units of the steelbook are being produced total.

• The artwork you see pictured on both come to us from by artist Nathanael Marsh (who also illustrated our prior Carpenter-themed steelbooks, including Halloween II & III). If you order directly from our site though, your packaging will also include an exclusive 28.5” x 16.5” rolled lithograph of the illustration. (The litho will not be available elsewhere and only 1,500 of them each are being made). The site offer with the litho can be found at https://www.shoutfactory.com/product...roduct_id=6883

Don't like that cover art on the new steelbook - much prefer the original movie poster.

This is my favorite movie but I'll pass until there's a true 4K upgrade.

Re: THE THING: 2-Disc Collector's Edition -9/20/16

I get a chuckle when I see "taken from a 4K transfer" then pressing it on a measly 1080P disc. Like consumers are actually gonna get 4K or near 4K on their crappy 1080P near obsolete TV.

Wow this company sure got money to burn to make shit looking steelbooks. The target audience has to be them virgins that collect Funk Pop Plastic crap.
