Re: UHD release announcements

Good Morning / Afternoon!

Sorry for the radio silence. I’ve been working diligently on SWAMP THING and I’m here to tell you that it’s FINALLY DONE! All of the details are below but I’ll be going on live here at 2:30 EST today to answer your SWAMP THING questions and talk shop!

As you know, the Blu-ray Rewind Collection titles are numbered (Swamp Thing is #51) and “Swamp Thing” marks the first 4K release from the MVD Rewind Collection. We have two configurations of this release, the standard Rewind Collection Collector’s Edition Blu-ray release and Introducing our Rewind 4K Line, the “LaserVision Collection”. MVD’s 4K LaserVision Collection, while being under the same Rewind Brand, will have its own line look / design (CED, anyone?) and its own number sequence in order to avoid repeating titles in the MVD Rewind Collection (as there are plans to go back on a few of our earlier titles to re-release on 4K). I really hope you like the line look and the style of our 4K releases. It was important to me to differentiate between the Rewind Blu-ray releases and the Rewind 4K releases. Again, I’ll be going live later today to answer your questions and talk shop, but for now I present to you SWAMP THING COMING TO 4K Ultra HD and Blu-ray on July 25, 2023!

THE DC COMICS SUPERHERO COMES TO LIFE IN WES CRAVEN'S CULT CLASSIC FILM, MAKING ITS DEBUT ON 4K ULTRA HD AND FINALLY, INCLUDING BOTH THE PG THEATRICAL VERSION AND THE UNRATED INTERNATIONAL VERSION!

MVD LaserVision Collection #1
TITLE: Swamp Thing (2-Disc Collector’s Edition) [4K Ultra HD + Blu-ray]
SKU: MVD12567UHD
UPC /Barcode: 760137125679
SRP: 49.95

SCIENCE TRANSFORMED HIM INTO A MONSTER. LOVE CHANGED HIM EVEN MORE!

Deep in Florida's darkest everglades, a brilliant scientist, Dr. Alec Holland (Ray Wise, Robocop) and a sexy government agent, Alice Cable (Adrienne Barbeau, John Carpenter’s The Fog) have developed a secret formula that could end world hunger and change civilization forever. Little do they know, however, that their arch nemesis, Arcane (Louis Jourdan, Octopussy) is plotting to steal the serum for his own selfish schemes. Looting the lab and kidnapping Cable, Arcane douses Holland with the chemicals and leaves him for dead in the swamp. Mutated by his own formula, Holland becomes “Swamp Thing” - a half human/half plant superhero who will stop at nothing to rescue the beautiful Cable and defeat the evil Arcane... even if it costs him his life.

That Swamp Thing release looks good. Not anything new, but at least it includes everything from the Shout and 88 Films releases, including the international cut!

I would have never imagined that Swamp Thing would get a 4K release.

And on top of that, the International Version! I thought that was scattered to the winds and would never be officially released again after the controversy previously when it made its way to DVD. Was it ever officially released on BD in the US?

Anyway, I sold my DVD with the International Cut for an obscene amount of money years ago.

I may have to pick this up. I watched this movie SO many times as a kid on early HBO where the same movie would run what felt like 3 times a day.

You can always opt for the blu-ray and save $10. I'm actually more worried about it being their first UHD. For that price I would rather not have a disc replacement fiasco.

Re: UHD release announcements

For some reason I thought MVD had put out the Return of Swamp Thing 4K, which is on sale for $29.99 at this time at
Amazon Amazon
. Turns out it was another company. MVD did put out Return of Swamp Thing on
Blu ray Blu ray
, which is not much less ($25.39) to purchase right now as the 4K is on sale.

Small indie label Lightyear Entertainment put out the Return of Swamp Thing 4K, their first UHD. I'm guessing MVD wanted something a little better than the semi-terrible Return of Swamp Thing as their first UHD.

My in-for on this one is maybe $35? I'll keep a watch; it has a special, weird place in my heart.

Re: UHD release announcements

I didn't find the 4K remaster for Vanilla Sky all that special. It appeared over a year ago on Blu-ray with a new transfer, which presumably shares the same 4K master. Cameron Crowe has made some great movies but they aren't videophile fare.

Saw it dropped in my saved cart and grabbed it as well. Came here to post the price drop for Swamp Thing 4K and it's already posted. Glad to grab it.

I pre-ordered from amazon, but now I'm wondering if DiabolikDVD has it for a better price. Maybe I'll look into that some day.

Re: UHD release announcements

Some of those covers are so so bad like Real Genius which is laughable and Polgertist, it is just really sad they did not bother to use the original covers although I did like the new covers like National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation which I thought is a big improvement although it does look photoshopped and Pulp Fiction which I am really liking the black than the red and yellow
