Do many people still care about extras? I find myself rarely checking them out anymore. I just can't seem to get excited for a double dip this quickly, simply because of some extras.

The only thing I ever care about for extras:

-Good indepth documentary. I hate when it's just a fluff piece of everyone saying how great everyone is. As bad as TPM is, that Documentary on the Episode 1 DVD is very insightful. It's worth the money just to see Lucas & everyone's reaction after the first private screening, "Oh shit, this is the final product?"

-Trailers (I always like the trailers as I go back and watch them every so often to think how I felt towards them before and after the movie.

-Deleted Scenes: I can never get enough of these as it's cool to see why they took them out or whether they should have left them in.

-All of the other bonus stuff they put on the disks are usually something you watch once and never bother with again.

Good to see the 3D version finally announced. I know I'll pick it up eventually, but the price will need to come down for me.

I love (good) commentaries and in some cases listen to them more often than I watch the actual movie. Even though I prefer commentaries that are scholarly or historical in nature, as a Star Wars fan, and given the weight of resurrecting a franchise like this, I'll be very interested to hear what JJ has to say specifically regarding the development of the story and the choices made with various characters, etc. I would enjoy deleted scenes for the same reason, although they can often times be disappointing.

That's why I'm so bummed that Disney went the double-dip route. I don't really care about the 3D version, but if I knew it was going to contain a commentary and deleted scenes, I would have waited.

Same for me.

It's funny how much tastes vary... I already own the steelbook, so the only reason I am picking this up when it's released is because I must own the 3D version. Rarely do I watch and enjoy the supplements. For the most part, they are meaningless fluff. If I didn't enjoy the 3D experience this release wouldn't even be on my radar.

I'll never double dip for extras. By now most of them or the information is available from other sources. The only ones I really like are gag reels and documentaries of the movie is based on a true story

I get where you're coming from, and used to be exactly the same. I dont know what changed.

You watch the movie with the commentary more often than watching with the actual soundtrack? At that point isn't the original movie the "extra"?

I don't have a 3dtv (though I do have a 3d BD player.)
I'm just not that interested in most extras any more. If there's a version With and Without, and they're the same price or within a buck or two, I'll probably get the With.
I won't double dip on a release just because of the extras unless I can 'trade up' for it minimal (ideally no) cost.

One of, if not absolutely, my favorite movies of all time. I will double, triple, and quadruple dip on this. And more.

The force is with you....

This will be an event. I'm even buying extra 3D glasses and inviting a few friends over to join me viewing it at home for the first time in 3D.

No, I wouldn't. I already have the version of this that I wanted, I don't need anything flashier...

I am so with you on that. I can remember the days when a commentary alone would be enough to get me to plunk down the cash for a DVD, but that was in the early days of the medium. A few too many commentary tracks with a lot of dead air broke me of that.

Charles de Lauzirika's work for the Alien series has really spoiled me for extra features. I can remember the Indiana Jones trilogy was first released on DVD not too long after the Alien Quadrilogy box, and its meager featurettes were so disappointing in comparison.

The only reason to pick this edition up is if you are a 3D enthusiast. I am, so I will....gleefully.

It's a pretty cool looking set. Hopefully some people will buy the set for the new features and throw the 3D disc up on eBay.

Nice looking but I have no use for the 3D and there's no guarantee there'll be uniform releases for VIII and IX. I'll wait on the eventual trilogy release to get the extras.

Agreed, although I'm holding out for UHD. It may never happen, but  no harm in waiting.

3D is so much more enjoyable than UHD.

Not when you have a 4K TV that doesn't do 3D at all. :D

Which will be most of us. Not even bothering with 3D at this point because it's days are numbered.

Using both, as much as I enjoy 3D, UHD is more enjoyable. 3D wears after a while when viewing something.

Which is why they keep making and releasing movies in 3D? It's not numbered by any means, but it remains as niche. 4k will eventually get adopted.

That's really false HD. Every major release is in 3D with home media following.

For me alone, I waited until 3D to buy this and I'm glad I did.
