this is exactly why I bought a digital copy of the current release for $5 off someone, and will buy this when it comes out.

The first release didn't have the full table read did it? If they're including that whole thing, that's definitely worth picking up.

According to the list of new extras that I posted, there is no full table read.

Just the 4 minute version from the classic extras.

I'm hoping we'll hear that Disney/Lucasfilm is also releasing the 3D versions of the prequels.

when do the prequel rights change over to Disney? - as far as I know Fox still has the theatrical/video rights to them.

They haven't, but as has been repeatedly stated here: Fox only has the distribution rights - if Disney says "we're releasing a Bluray set" then Fox says "okey dokey".

Disney now owns the copyright to all the films. Fox has distribution rights for Episodes 1, 2, 3, 5 and 6 through 2020, and distribution rights for Episode 4 (the original Star Wars) in perpetuity.

What Milo says here is true in theory. However, Fox does have the right to refuse to distribute a new release. That seems unlikely, though, unless it was done purely out of spite because Fox doesn't want to work with Disney.

Giles, any way we can merge these two Star Wars threads?

As long as you don't mind ordering from Amazon UK, you can get the region free version for $25.50

I'm up for this, greatly, but not at the current $50 price. Wonder what this will retail at...

This is a separate release. Isn't it helpful having the two?

Almost all 3D movies are separate releases, do we have multiple threads for all of them as well?

Re: Star Wars: The Force Awakens (Blu-ray 3D) --> 11/15/16

When I began collecting again after a brief hiatus, I decided to purchase a 65" Sony 3D display for my home. The initial experience was wonderful and I began to hunt down 3D titles at various resellers here in the Phoenix area. I was amazed how many used titles lined the shelves The so-called experts were calling 3D a short-lived fad and reveled in predicting its demise. I began to worry that the format was doomed and people were dumping their collections. But I loved watching each of the films I had purchased in 3D so I didn't allow it to deter me in the least—I needed to feed this new passion. I now own over 100 3D titles and there's plenty more catalog titles to acquire. The fact that a 3D version is getting released at this juncture, months after the initial release vindicates those of us who enjoy the added thrills provided by this format. The studios' continued support for 3D has me saving for an even larger display to enjoy all of its virtues.

Different release dates, different extras -- it's a re-release, as far as I'm concerned, and that warrants its own thread. That's very different to me than a 2D and 3D release coming out on the same day.

Also, it's one of the top grossing movies of all time and likely to generate a fair amount of forum traffic/discussion.

My guess is we'll be able to find it somewhere before release day at around $25.

Right now, Amazon is prebooking at $35.
