Star Wars: The Force Awakens - April 5th, 2016

Biggest movie of all time, blah blah blah....this of course will move a few copies and make the blu ray numbers look good - at least for a week or two. Saw this link and it says blu-ray.com says it'll be released April 5th, but the link doesn't say any specific date. But April sounds about right. I know we'll see about 2 dozen exclusives for this one.

STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS BLU-RAY COMING APRIL 5TH!

According to Blu-ray.com Star Wars: The Force Awakens has a Blu-Ray release date of April 5th! Blu-ray.com is a very reliable source for release dates so it looks like this will be the date it comes out. Hopefully we do get to see deleted scenes, commentary’s, and more on the Blu-Ray!

Will be interested to see store exclusives. Hopefully any exclusive features will be on a physical disc but since this is Disney, same distributor as the Avengers, I fear it's going to be digital content...

Deleted scenes spread out between Best Buy, Target, Walmart, iTunes, Amazon, and every other digital platform.

A great, two-and-a-half our making-of-documentary divided up between Target, Walmart, Bestbuy, iTunes, and Amazon.

Get ready to take in the ass hard, fanboys!

This thing is already a license to print money. Why not milk it even more? They should have the $4 billion back just from DVD sales and tickets. This is the kind of release that fans will buy ALL those store exclusives for, and Disney knows it.

I'm in for a Steelbook, but that's about it.

Anything you're in for, Disney has released. Star Wars macaroni and cheese, band-aids, nose hair clippers, life-size toys, ice cream, fruit snacks, I see them at all work. Pick something, and they put Star Wars on it.

What digital exclusive content did Avengers have?

It comes out sooner than I expected but I firmly believe this date was picked long before it became the alltime box office champ. Corporations have to know release schedules months in advance for their quarterly windows.

Sorry, meant Age of Ultron. I'll have to look but it was some kind of featurette IIRC.

I've already seen cards for TFA digital downloads (with three mini-posters) in Walmart and Bestbuy.

Wonder if they're really going to push this hard for digital, possibly at the exclusion of physical media. I could see a lot of the bonus content being online exclusive. Which would be a total dick move, but this is Di$ney and Luca$film we're talking about...

Can't blame Disney, they're just doing their part in killing physical media.

I'm just holding out for some store-exclusive Star Wars oranges.

I hope it's better cover art then the PT & OT DVD's. I don't know why they never used the Original Poster Art for the covers, instead they had 4-5 character faces like a collage and they were so bland.

The worst were the individual dvd releases where they took the original posters and made photo collages to match them. It's like they out to troll everyone who was saying they should just use the poster art.

I believe Lucasfilm's reluctance to reuse the original poster art is because the artist still gets royalties from it.

Surprised it's that early, but sounds good since I don't plan on seeing it again in theaters and looking forward to buying it.

I think this is the kind of movie people would still go see in a theater even if it is on home video.

I'm sure there are some people like that. But by April I would imagine there are other new releases that would make more money on those same screens. I would think only the places with over a dozen screens would still have TFA in on one screen all day.

I suppose that's a possibility, but it's not like they never use it. Original poster art has shown up on a couple of different dvd box sets and the discs themselves use the original art. They just never seem to use the poster art to its full potential.

I wonder if this will get released on UHD BD as well?

I strongly doubt it, I don't expect it. Disney always plays new formats very, very cautiously. They don't believe in "building" new formats, they let the other studios do that for them.

We sell a whole bunch of wooden things at work with the poster art on them.

I was looking for something else and found this at Target--they are throwing in three posters if you pre-order the download of the film there: Link

Hopefully the digital exclusives continue to be trinkets and not exclusive content--and there's something inherently funny about physical bribes being given to get you to purchase the download!

Target also has a Blu/DVD/Digital HD combo pack listed at 19.99 with a $5 gift card for pre ordering. Link

Re: Star Wars: The Force Awakens - April 5th

It sucks the shipping/taxes negates the value of the gift card (atleast in my case - don't have a red card).
