Well Disney stopped with live action, and Marvel is well, Marvel. They've been dictating their releases, not Disney. We don't know about the newly aquired Lucasfilm. My guess is that they'll ditch stuff like 3D and significant extras.

But I really hope I'm wrong.

Why put out 3D and significant extras when fans will buy another release down the line?

Though that's what I thought about Frozen, and instead of milking it with a 3D release, they released a sing-along release instead. But yeah, at least Pixar and Marvel still do it.

Will best buy be doing a steelbook?

There are going to be exclusives out the ass on this release.

Yeah, I'm afraid that you're going to have to buy three or more releases in order to get a complete special edition, like game of Thrones or star Trek Into Darkness.

I don't mind store exclusive steel books or figurines or cover art, but I really hate it when actual content is exclusive.

I'm guessing something like this:

Best Buy - steelbook
Target - bonus disc or online content
Walmart - some sort of toy or shirt
Amazon - a wet fart

Marvel and Pixar still output 3D releases, I don't see why Lucasfilm wouldn't follow suit.

In addition, Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol is the only film with footage shot in IMAX that wasn't presented in its "correct" OAR on the Blu-ray. Brad Bird kept all the footage at the 2.40:1 aspect ratio unlike other releases where the IMAX footage was "maintained" at 1.78:1. The Dark Knight, The Dark Knight Rises, Interstellar, The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, Star Trek Into Darkness, Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, and Transformers: Age of Extinction all have discs available with the aspect change.

Disney still hasn't given Region A FROZEN in 3D.
All discs of that from all countries are actually region-free, and Japan is part of Region A too. But it would be nice if someone from Disney would just say why the hell it wasn't released in the US, because it's made me really hate their company.

It feels like it's a slap in the face to the cinematographer. Here's this nicely framed shot that's trying to convey a certain mood and setting - but it's destroyed because a person/object is popping out and taking total focus away from everything else. Very annoying and distracting.
Uh, maybe the cinematographer actually MEANT for it to look like that? Converted 3D is a grey area and I honestly wish they would either shoot native 3D or not at all, but if it's released in 3D that's how I want to see it. Greedy studios and theaters have ruined it by treating it like an add-on.

TFA could be one of those titles where even more retailers have some type of exclusive. B&N, FYE Fred Meyer, etc. Even if it's just a figure, poster, book/booklet, or different slipcover.

I think a lot of the original thoughts on why are still valid - A re-release to promote a new Disney animated film. Frozen 2 depending on how quickly they turn that around?

Supposedly Amazon sent out an e-mail to those who preordered saying that it actually will be coming out on April 5th. Anyone get the e-mail?

So is there really NOT going to be a 3D Blu Ray release of this title?

OldBoy 02-18-16 04:11 PM

there damn well better be, even if region free somewhere. if not, i refuse to buy any release. well, that's not entirely true...

So if the blu-ray is out April 5, does that mean the digital version will be available on March 8, 4 weeks before the physical version?

Disney really needs to put out a press release so we know what the fuck is going on with TFA. I'm not ordering anything until I know what will actually be sold.

Hell, most of us aren't going to make a decision until we know what, if any, store exclusives are coming.

It sucks the shipping/taxes negates the value of the gift card (atleast in my case - don't have a red card).
I hate that too especially when Amazon started collecting taxes in CA and now I don't use Amazon that much after they did that.

I can't believe they're being so quiet about what will surely be one of the biggest disc releases of the year.

It's still pulling some good coin at the theaters, they don't want to cut it's legs out from under too soon.
There are people that will buy the Bluray whenever it releases, so they want to get as much from the theater as they can

http://www.boxofficemojo.com/movies/...=starwars7.htm

Edit: look at this

Feb 5–11 4 $9,573,495 -33.6% 2,262 -294 $4,232 $908,644,964 8
Feb 12–18 6 $9,161,331 -4.3% 1,810 -452 $5,062 $917,806,295 9

It dropped 452 theaters last week, but it's gross only went down 4.3 %. That's amazing.

I've wondered about that as well. I'd like to see it again as soon as possible without having to go back to the theater.

I actually want *one* more theatrical viewing - I want to see it in a second run theater, with scratches, bad reel changes and a few audio dropouts... just for old times' sake.

That's why I was expecting a Bluray release of late May (week before Memorial Day was always a popular release date during the heyday of DVD's in the late 90's).

If it comes out April 5th then I won't see it in the theater again, but if it's delayed til the summer I'll probably go 1 more time.

I heard that less than 10 35mm prints of this movie were made- and hopefully they're being treated better than that.
