The only instance I can think of where the DVD's are better are in the few instances where there is an extended cut on DVD which is superior to the theatrical version. Of course there are some where only an inferior extended cut is available BR and the theatrical was better. Obviously "better" is subjective. I prefer the extended cut of Pearl Harbor and Tombstone yet the BR are the theatrical only. Hollow Man is extended and I preferred the shorter cut of the DVD.

The 5.1 mix of Terminator is a completely new mix with added sound effects, etc. This is a very common occurrence because unless a studio has access to the original sound effect and music elements, there's no good way to expand a mono track to 5.1. Instead they just throw a lot of extra crap in there so that there's something to spread across the various channels. I think in the case of Terminator there was also some revisionism at hand with Cameron not being happy with the quality of the original track, although I could be wrong about that.
In the case of The Terminator, the original PCM mono track from the laserdisc is pretty easy to find online synced to the current BD. I know hanshotfirst doesn't like to go that route, but it really is pretty awesome and probably of a higher quality than any studio release would be.

Yes to the original question, and it has been running for eight years. If all you care about is picture quality, checking the PQ Tiers is essential when you want a quick idea of what a Blu-ray looks like.

Pretty much anything in Tiers 0 through Tier 2 is worth the PQ upgrade to Blu-ray. The proposition gets much dicier below Tier 2. Some of that is poor source material but there you have it.

I bought The Warriors(1979) when it first was released. After that didn't pay any attention. Had no idea the original version had been discontinued and replaced with a re-imagined comic book type cut on dvd. Picked up the BD for $5 in Wal-Mart bargain bin. That's when I found out about the redone version. That is one dvd I kept.

He may not, whoever is the rights-holder for the movie might've just given Netflix a different master.

The original unaltered version has a 2000 copyright date on cover. Has insert like used to get in early days.
Appears the change over took place in 2005. Can still get original version on Amazon from marketplace. New ones start at $40, used around .50.

....PS: PM? Please
?
?The color issues not withstanding, there's really no excuse for the mono or the omission of any original audio tracks. Are they not on the film negative/IP/print when you scan it digitally in the first place?!
