Re: The Martian - 1/12/16

Will wait for the SE w/ commentary and better features.

The special features seem anemic for a Ridley Scott film.
Charles de Lauzirika implied he only had a partial role to play in the extras this time around.

Is Double Dipping SEs still a thing (outside of Peter Jackson's Middle Earth stuff)? The only other recent example I can think of was X-Men DoFP (and that was announced before the Blu came out).

A shameless attempt to improve their chances of winning. As much as I love the movie, I hope it backfires. The Martian is not a comedy, despite some very funny moments.

Did you like Apollo 13 and/or Gravity? If so, then a big "yes".

Yes and No

I thought the criteria would be if you like Ridley Scott (Yes) and Matt Damon (Yes) lol.

I have a lot of Ridley Scott movies.

Re: The Martian - 1/12/16

this was different Scott, this was light at moments and very enjoyable. just excellent performances not weighed down by heavy burdens as sometimes is Scott's trait...

If you like Ridley Scott movies, you may NOT like this...this is is most 'cheerful" and crowd-pleasing movie ever.

this is the first Atmos mix I won't be missing - this and Scott's 'Exodus: Gods and Kings' had just average Atmos mixes.

It'll be the Director's Cut for the next release.

Re: The Martian - 1/12/16

Fucking lame!

All the extras combined come in about an hour... none of it is really that interesting. Signal Acquired and Occupy Mars are the only ones that are about making of the film. The theatrical in-world pieces were all promotional videos released on YouTube, and the Ares III:Refocused piece is another fluff promo video.

There's much better content on YouTube if you search the various interviews of Ridley Scott/Drew Goddard/Andy Weir/etc... leading up to the film's release, including their Comic-Con Q&A panel.

Signal Acquired: Writing and Direction - 9:36
Occupy Mars: Casting and Costumes - 14:13
Gag Reel - 7:33
Production Gallery ~210 still images

Pretty sad that there are more extras on Vudu. There's 10 featurettes.

Ares III: Farewell
Signal Aquired: Writing and Direction
Occupy Mars: Casting and Costumes
Gag Reel
Ares III: Refocused
The Right Stiff
Ares: Our Greatest Adventure
Leave Your Mark
Bring Him Home

Ah, okay. Just can't really tell from the post you linked since it didn't detail out what each featurette was called. Although I don't see the Ridley Scott discussion on NASA's Mars journey listed anywhere.

No steelbooks or news of any store exclusives?

I don't find any at Best Buy, Target, and Wal-Mart.

Re: The Martian - 1/12/16

Double dips don't happen as often as they used to, but this seems to be a candidate for a Ridley Scott "Director's/Extended/Special/Out of This World Edition" release later this year or in 2017.

Re: The Martian - 1/12/16

Best Buy has the preorder up for the UHD version at $24.99 - but no 3D disc included, but the Atmos mix will be an exclusive on said edition if what Fox Home Video is claiming.

Re: The Martian - 1/12/16

I canceled my Target order w/ $10 gift card. Figured I would wait until the Fox Connect sale and maybe pick up the 3D or 4K version instead.

It's going to be $19.99 for the 2D and $24.99 for the 3D at Target next week though, so still a pretty good deal with the gift card preorders.
