The day Inception was released on steelbook. I didn't buy a blu ray player for another 3 months or so and even longer for a hi def tv, but I knew if I kept buying the dvd over the blu ray I'd eventually regret it.

Why So Blu?

It was January (don't remember the year) but the PS3 had recently gotten the update for the full lossless playback option. For a while it only had the core playback. I was purple until HD-DVD went away.

February of 2012. My old SDTV had shit the bed, and I purchased my first HDTV. I figured I might as well just get a Blu-ray player at that point.

Around late summer/early Fall 2009 I think.

Bought my 1st BD player and my 1st HDTV. A super cheap Dynex 21-22 inch TV from Best Buy. I don't recall the exact title though. So many have come and gone.

I really don't remember, but it was probably the winter of 2007/08. I had come across a nice Panasonic player at a good price at Costco and decided to make it a family Xmas present.

Up until then I had sat out the format war (even though Blu was the superior medium, IMO), but by that time the handwriting was clearly on the wall for HD-DVD.

Just remembered I still have that Panasonic (which still works, btw) hooked up to the TV in my den/library. The date on it is Nov 2008.

I bought a used HD DVD A2 Toshiba player with 30 movies for $75 in December 2010.

Bought my first Blu-ray player (Sony BDP-S360) for $80 at a Boxing Day sale 3 weeks later.

February of 2008. I remember driving back from Best Buy on a cold dark winter's night. The news on the radio was reporting some guy named Barack Obama had just won the Iowa Caucuses. Dark days, indeed.

August 2009. My rear projector TV died on me in July so I bought a HDTV in the first week of August. Two weeks later I bought a blu-ray player and several blu-ray movies. The original plan was to make the switch to HD in the first quarter of 2009 together with a friend, but the friend bailed and I was between new jobs at the time.
I was the first among my friends and family who made the HD switch. I used to show off my new system with the movie Coraline. Everybody was like "wow!, amazing quality!."

Right from the get go in 2006. Jumped on Hd-Dvd & Blu-ray. Even before both formats were released & started selling off my 2000+ dvd collection. Did the same thing with my 500+ laser disc collection before dvds first came out.

The sad thing I have 4 hd-dvd players & 350 hd-dvds stored away in the closet.

By the time I was buying blurays (in late-2011 and 2012), second handed dvds were only bringing in around 50 cents a pop (or less). I couldn't even give them away by then.

2007. I usually wait a year or so before buying any new tech. 4 BD players in the house now. I had 5 but one of the PS3's died. It was a first gen.
