Re: When did you upgrade to Blu-ray?

According to search: 1/4/08, the day WB announced they were going Blu-Ray only.

Lots of freakout in that thread. That weekend i started a massive selloff of HD-DVD's on eBay, went to MS and bought a few blu's and ordered a PS3.

I dunno. Whenever it was that they pulled the plug on HD DVD.

That's why I started to sell them way before hd-dvd & blu-ray were released. Friends told me I was stupid. Lot of those titles would take a long time to be released on blu-ray or might never be. But I sold many for good prices.

My friend a few years ago could never sale his laser disc collection. He had about 250 or so I gave them all away to one person.

Re: When did you upgrade to Blu-ray?

The day they announced that blu-ray had won out over HD-DVD I went and bought a PS3. I wasted no time. I had bought some blu-ray titles already but didn't have anything to play them on till that little software war died down.

I thought it was 2008...but now that I think about it, I bought my first Bd player the summer before Toshiba officially threw in the towel. It was probably shortly after the players hit $500. Was that 2007 or 2008?

Re: When did you upgrade to Blu-ray?

I'm think it was 07. I did get HD DVD first, then about 6 months later I added the BR. I was a fairly early adopter. I don't remember the details but I do remember my first machine didn't have some of the features or speed of the HD because they hurried them to market to keep up. The next generation were much better.

Re: When did you upgrade to Blu-ray?

My old 50" rear projection TV worked until early 2012 so I was in no hurry to upgrade to Blu-ray. I got my first Blu-ray player within a few days of getting my first HD TV. Game of Thrones S1 hit right after that and there was no looking back.

Same here, but went out and bought a Panny BD-30 for $399 but kept my HDDVDs and the tank HDA1. I wasn't going to double dip when most were the same as the BD.

2010 when the prices of the players went down and the format war was over.

Re: When did you upgrade to Blu-ray?

I bought my first Blu-ray and HD-DVD players on the same day in November 2006. PS3's were still hard to get so my impulsive self bought the big tank Sony BDP-S1 since I knew the Sammy player was shit.

I did hedge my bet by buying all dual format titles on Blu-ray which paid off. I think I just threw out my HD-A1 and HD-A20 last year when I moved out of my house. At least I got some decent money for my HD-XA2 a few years back.
